Could Idris Elba Be Up For Luke Cage?

We will next see the actor play Heimdall in Marvel's Thor, but speaking to Total Film Elba revealed he might be up for some more Marvel characters..

Speaking to Total Film recently, the star of The Losers, tv's Luther and of course Thor talked about working on the Marvel movie, but also hinted that it might not be the last character we see him play in that universe!..

'It was great to work with Kenneth (Director Kennth Branagh) and the Marvel team, very dedicated guys, amazingly detailed, very clever.'

'It's going to be a big film for Marvel next year, and Kenneth Branagh has definitely put his stamp on it.'

Asked what might be in store for him beyond Thor, Elba said..

'I have a picture deal with them (Marvel). I can't tell you much about that, but I can tell you I'll be back.'

Back..but not necessarily as Heimdall. After Total Film pushed a little, Elba revealed the following..

'I wouldn't mind having a crack at bringing Blade back, personally'

'But erm, there's a couple of things there that they have... Luke Cage is... very interesting.'

So there you go, we might see Elba as either Luke Cage or Blade I'm sure there are those that won't want to see multiple Marvel characters played by the same actor, but you've got to admit, the man would rock those roles.

Nah. Snipes did well as Blade and those films, well, 1 & 2, were great. I'd love to see Idris bring Cage to the big screen. With Iron Fist.

That'd be a [frick]ing cool buddy movie.

And I'm gonna be stupid and say Jason Statham as a potty-mouthed cockney Iron Fist, ha ha ha.

Snipes was Blade IMO.I would love to see Idris as Cage.

i would love to see Cage and Iron Fist together. I know Idris is a great actor, but I don't think A luke Cage movie will be any good without his right hand man.

hold on who got the rights to Luke Cage is it still at Columbia Pictures or does Marvel Studio got the rights.

cause if Marvel got the rights to the character wouldnt it be strange that if he played Luke Cage in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Thor would be like "Luke Cage you remind me of Heimdall".

if Luke Cage is at Columbia Pictures well it does not matter.

Wesley Snipes owns Blade no one should touch it they should just make Blade 4 with Wesley Snipes again and forget the 3rd movie never happened.

it would be good just need a right director and good writter. imagine this Luke Cage solo movies and Iron First Solo movie. then instead of having a sequel for both of them they can cross path and create Heroes For Hire.

Well, clearly he has spoken to Marvel about playing Cage..so my guess is the rights are with Marvel! Multiple picture deal means we will most likely see him play SOMEONE else. Unless they are planning Heimdall spin off movies.

never said anything about Blade been on New Line and i know his a Marvel character. but we aint going to see Blade in the same Marvel Cinematic Universe as Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, Cap etc. also i would not want Idris Elba to play Blade, Wesley Snipes did a good with the character. they should just do Blade 4 no reboot or prequel.

well i doubt we get a Heimdall spin off to be honest lol. just find it odd that if he got casted as Luke Cage and also played Heimdall in the same universe. but then again it makes me think that Heimdall role is kind of small or a throw away character.

at least his better then having Tyrese Gibson as Luke Cage.

Nah...I still want Terry Crews for Luke Cage. I don't care how old he is. He's got the build and that perfect blue collar, "just trying to pay the bills" sensibility of Cage. Just watch Everybody Hates Chris.

Also, Cage cared his own solo book for a long time. He and Iron Fist should definitely get solo introductory films before teaming up.

He would be a kick ass Luke Cage. Marvel has the rights to Cage, they have been talking about bringing him to the big screen for some time now.

I have not agreed with anyone who says one person shouldn't play two heroes but this is a little different. I know Heimdall and Cage would never have any reason to meet in the movies but their respective films would be flip flopping each other with their release dates. That could be a little strange.

Terry Crews does look the part, but imo he's not a strong enough actor. He was one of the worst things in The Expendables..and that really is saying something!

I do like him in Everybody Hates Chris but I just have never seen film with him that impressed me. I dunno, he's certainly not the worst choice.

I think Terry could pull off a Luke Cage. Maybe Idris could play Sam Wilson aka Falcon in the Captain America sequel because we know its coming!

The roles of Blade and Luke Cage are ones he just mentioned that he's aware of but not that Marvel actually has plans for him to play. His movie deal seems to suggest that they could sign him up for anyone and in my opinion that means he's likely to be in the running for either Black Panther or someone in a BP movie.

Of the guys on this list, I would pick Terry Crews for Cage, Djimon Hounsou for Black Panther and MJ White for Tombstone in a Spidey movie. I'd like to see MJ White duke it out with his martial arts skills against Spider-man

I know this is a tired statement but Cage is one of the comic characters that I believe NEEDS to be a big man. Much of his persona in the books is based on the fact that he is extremely intimidating size wise.

I don't think Ebla has enough size. And although he has the size and look, I'm not sure if Crews has the chops. White is not intimidating to look at, I don't care how badass he really is, he doesn't look it.

Do people not understand what continuity is? Unless they recast Heimdall, we won't be seeing Idris Elba play another Marvel character in the film universe. Just take this news with a huge grain of salt.

And besides. Luke Cage belongs to Terry Crews.

Djimon Hounsou is of the age of RDJ and just too old to play Black Panther. Go with the most popular choice, Chiwetel Ejiofor. He's 30 something, a good actor with cool demeanor. And he knows how to kick butt. No wonder Hollywood are looking him as the first choice to be T'challa.

Michael Jai White can be the next Blade and what a splendid Blade that would be. I don't think. As for Carl Lucas, nah he's short. He might be bulky, but Cage is 6'6" tall. Not under 6".

I'm alright with Elba as Cage. He has the charisma, built, acting chop and almost 6'3" height. But that means Heimdall needs to be killed off. Maybe on the next Ragnarok Cycle he can be back as Caucasian.

Saw somebody mention Falcon. Falcon should definitely be somebody younger. Hollywood is always wanting to capture they youth audience with a younger actor. That's one time it would make sense.

M.J.White as CAGE or MAYBE
and I say MAYBE Terry Crews.

Hounson would be perfect for the PANTHER if they make it before he turns 50!!

Im just not real sure about Crews playing a tough guy
just because your big and ripped doesnt mean your
tough. I really cant think of anyone who comes across
as a street tough with the size also to play CAGE.

Telavizion, the FF movies were Fox properties that are now defunct! Just because they exist in the same universe in the comics, in the movie verse, it makes not a lick of difference because you would have never seen the actors playing those FF characters in a Marvel movie anyway! Your the one that has to accept THAT. Or, yknow, don't! Its up to you, but I'll be going to see Captain America.

Yes Crews had a small role, but whenever he spoke(twice) he stunk up the screen. And with Dolph Lungren literally shitting on HIS scenes, that was quite a feat.

M.J. White is 6'1 and if you shave his head he looks like the modern CAGE he's him. He's not a GREAT actor but does he need to be GREAT to play CAGE? The Panther yes I think that character is alot more complex than CAGE.

I JUST DONT LIKE IDRIS for these roles and the guy looks OLD he's a good actor just not right for the roles mentioned.

I really havent had the time I live about 45minutes away from Hollywood believe it or not.

I have a few buddies I work out with
get in t.v.ads,background,and one guy I know Melvin Anthony pro bodybuilder WAS IN BLOODBONE with M.J.White.

I've done some stuff on ESPN(informical w\Deion Sanders) but that was years ago
after my football playing days(college\overseas).

Heimdall will probably be such a minor character in Thor, I don't have a problem with Elba playing another character. I mean, it's not like they've got Chris Evans playing Captain America and Thor, lol! This guy would nail Blade but I'd love to see his take on Luke Cage as well. Good stuff ROR! :)

Can't see Idris as Cage and he will still be playing Heimdall in another film or two, so I can't see Marvel going there.

Terry Crews is just too...over-the-top of an actor. A little obnoxious for my taste.
Simmons is my choice at this point. Simmons is an actor. He can look nice when he needs to and can have the edge when he needs to.

I wish Omari Hardrick from Dark Blue was taller. He would be perfect for the part.

Marvel won't cast the same actor to play two different roles in their own studio movies.

I don't really see how his quotes even infer he might be up for a different character, he is just saying he would like to play those characters.

I'm glad we are going to see him in multiple movies,I'm sure he will be awesome as Heimdall. But I wouldn't want to see him cast as another character in another Marvel movie.
