Evil Dead Remake Synopsis Revealed

We weren't certain if this was going to be a loose follow up, or an outright remake of Sam Raimi's classic horror flick. But the following synopsis should leave no one in any doubt..

So we know this redo is going ahead with Sam Raimi's blessing and director Fede Alvarez at the helm. But will it be a carbon copy of Raimi's original or will we be seeing something new? Well the following synopsis posted by STYD is doing the rounds for the upcoming American Film Market and sounds very familiar indeed..

Five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin where they discover a Book Of The Dead and unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

So, the same premise as the original then. But not quite. Because here is a bit more info on courtesy of Bloody Disgusting (via /Film) which adds a junkie sub plot and a few different details..

..The kids all head to the cabin in order to help one of their number kick a serious drug habit. The site says “the “new spin” is the motivation behind the trip, with the lead character taking his younger sister to the family’s cabin to help her kick her drug addiction. Without her drugs she becomes insane and difficult to control, which makes it impossible to see that she’s actually possessed.” And passages from the Book of the Dead, i.e. the spoken spells that awake the dead, are not played back via tape recording, but read by one of the young characters — someone who evidently has the ability to read ancient Sumerian, or whatever arcane language is written in the book.

Hmmm. Word is the original Ash Bruce Campbell will cameo but not as that character, in fact the Ash character is not supposed to make an appearance at all. Raimi is on board as I said already and will exec produce but I still don't have a great feeling about this one. What do you guys think?

ok I first heard them t as lking about this like 6 years ago, its NEVER going to happen. And if it dose Rami would be a bigger dumbf*¢k then I thought way back when he did the crapass Grudge movie, if he didnt have Ash in there. Yeah ok Bruce Campbell is gettin old(& fat, anyone watch Burn Notice? lol) so I can see Rami not wanting him up front in the lead, but GOD DAM IT if they dont even have an Ash TYPE character(who whelds a chainsaw or has one for a hand) this is going to flop worse than Boogieman.
I love Rami, but lets face it hes one of those guys thats never really reached his potential. Hes like 20% badass 80% uber stank crash & burn crapfest. BUT I will admit, the normally crapass aspects of ED are exactly what made it so badass AND is another reason a remake would AUTOMATICLY be an epic fail. A further shit smeer on Rami credit of work

If they don't have that tongue in cheek dark humor just don't bother. Technically Evil Dead 2 was a remake of the original 16 millimeter version so tiswould be the third remake. And as we all know, the third time is the terd
superman7 - 10/28/2011, 4:50 AM

Ok, hand me my boomstick to deal with the suits who thought this would be a good idea (although the drug habit subplot seems kinda interesting)
joeker - 10/28/2011, 11:08 AM
Oh f**k sake! Raimi you total jerk
Bandrews1 - 10/28/2011, 1:52 PM
Why didn't they just make a sequel like they were originally planning on doing, instead of doing a remake.

Sounds like crap!!! No Ash?!! Why even bother, you wouldn't remake Friday the 13th without Jason. So why remake Evil Dead without Ash? I'd rather see Evil Dead 4!!!!
