Helena Bonham Carter Undecided On AKIRA

We were led to believe that after Gary Oldman passed, Bonham Carter was still a lock for the role of Lady Miyako. Not so. While speaking to MTV the actress reveals that she doesn't know what project she will be doing next...

This movie just cant seem to lock down a cast. So far we know Garret Hedlund will play Kaneda and Ken Watanabe MIGHT play The Colonel, everything else is up in the air including Helena Bonham Carter who was said to be up for the role of psychic revolutionary leader Lady Miyako. While speaking to MTV the Oscar winner kept it short and sweet..

"I haven't really decided yet," said Bonham Carter, who confirmed she had in fact read the script already. "I don't know yet what I'm going to do next. I'm not really going to talk about it until I've decided whether to do it or not."

I'm not expecting too much from this movie, but since it is happening whether we like it or not I at least hope that it's a well made film. So I was hoping that Carter was a sure thing. Guess we will have to wait and see.

I could TOTALLY see her as Lady Miyako. That would actually be pretty fun to watch.

Plus, she's already got the hair for it.

HELENA-"AKIRA..AKIRA HONEY WHAT DO YOU THINK I SHOULD DO..DO IT OR NOT?"

BURTON-"DOES IT HAVE A TWISTED TREE? A SCARECROW? DOES IT HAVE SOME WIERD HUMOR IN IT?..IF NOT THEN NO."

Helena Bohnam Carter would be cool in Akira (even though I think they shouldn't make Akira into a live action movie, it's good as is) but I think she's perfect for Dark Shadows.

Seems like someone with Japanese ancestry should be playing a character with Japanese ancestry.

I would totally tap that in all directions. She has always owned me. Thank goodness Burton's got a brilliant mind or else she'd be wasted on him.

patrickbateman47 should go back to school.

Hmm... I'm more interested in Watanabe potentially being in the movie.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 12/1/2011, 11:32 AM
She is a decent actress. I can't stand her husband though, he hasn't had an original idea in over 20 years.

Hopefully Watanabe officially gets the part and Bonham turns its down so an Asian actress can get the part....from then on they can improve the rest of the casting.

What can be learned from Dragonball Evolution? It wiped out every actor/actress career at a single stroke.
CherryBomb - 12/1/2011, 1:24 PM
YES
Helena would be awesome <3
Supes17 - 12/1/2011, 1:26 PM
Don't do it Watanabe! This movie shouldn't even be called AKIRA...
They changed too much shit

They only thing I would change is that whole organ transformation mass thing in the climax. That was weird as [frick] and unnecessary.

Helena is an awesome actress. The only reason I would watch it is because of the actors.

I love the fact that it's set in NY, but making Kaneda a simple bartender and limiting Tetsuo to just telephatic and telekinetic powers is absurd. He's supposed to turn into an unstoppable, all-powerful force...
MovieTheaterLad - 12/1/2011, 7:33 PM
@pintoman

Lady Miyako is a Shinto priestess.

BAM! Now she's a crazy nun. Not that difficult, now is it?

@Supes

They said they want to make it into 2-3 movies so that they can utilize the entire plot of the manga, unlike the anime which barely used half. So I'm sure there's plenty of room to develop the plot in a direction that would lead to Kaneda and Tetsuo donning their famous bikes for some gang related shenanigans, of for Tetsuo to do... well... all the stuff Tetsuo did.
