Not Every Critic Loved THE AVENGERS; Check Out The ONE Negative Review So Far

The Avengers currently sits at a whopping 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, but what about that pesky little 4%? Have a look at a bad (or at least not that good) review, which compares the movie to Michael Bay's Transformers 3!..

Marvel's The Avengers is undoubtedly a resounding success, with most fans and critics alike falling over themselves to praise Joss Whedon's superhero mash-up. But it would be unfair to focus solely on the positives when the negatives do exist, albeit in a very small minority. Boxofficemagazine's Amy Nicholson wasn't quite as impressed with the movie as most others, giving The Avengers an average (at best) review.

She admits that the movie "almost works", but suggest that if audiences haven't seen Marvel's previous build-up movies (Thor, Iron Man etc) that they will be lost. She also, more than once, brings up comparisons to a certain threequel from Michael Bay - "Apparently, bootleg copies of Transformers 3 made it to Asgard". She likes the comedy, although says there might be too much. And praises Whedon, while knocking his decision to exclude Thor's love interest Jane (Natalie Portman). Sam Jackson also comes in for a pasting for his portrayal of Nick Fury.

Here are some excerpts, for the full review click the link below..

..The Avengers almost works. It's funny and it's physical, but even at two and a half hours, it plays like it's on fast-forward. Forget character development—there's not even character explanation. The lesser Avengers are most slighted. After two movies with Black Widow and Hawkeye, I know less about them then I do the fighting Panda in Tekken..

..The comedy zings and I'd give an arm to have Whedon take over Iron Man 3, but I'm with the Cap when he sighs, "Is everything a joke to you?" In order to shoe-horn in The Avengers before Thor 2, Whedon has to shrug and ignore an ending that had Thor trapped on Asgard longing to reunite with his dream girl scientist Jane (Natalie Portman). Here, he somehow lands back on earth no problemo, and when he learns Jane was transferred six states away for her own safety, he doesn't even bother to visit. And Samuel L. Jackson continues to be the franchise's weak link as an unconvincing military bureaucrat. Though his co-stars fight in horned helmets or turn green when enraged, he can't even credibly wear an eye patch..

..If such a thing can be said about a $220 million dollar blockbuster, The Avengers needs more ambition. Sure, it's fine for most films to host their battle royale in downtown Manhattan, but the superfriends deserve more. Prehistoric metal monsters smashing up skyscrapers? We've seen that before. For Avengers 2 (because there will inevitably be an Avengers 2) ask not what Michael Bay would do to New York—ask what Hieronymus Bosch would do to anywhere he damn well pleased..

In fairness, having not seen the movie yet I'm in no position to argue with her, but it certainly seems, given what I have heard, that she is nit picking - if not completely misrepresenting the movie. But hey, that's opinions for ya. What about you guys? Have any of you seen the movie and agree with this assessment? Sound off below.

wow. this reviewer is an idiot.
Edmundo - 4/21/2012, 4:40 AM
She gave Avengers three out of five stars. Why is the rotten? If my g/f would rank me that high I would be happy
TheIconicMan - 4/21/2012, 4:42 AM
Everybody loved The Avengers. She doesn't know anything.
RorMachine - 4/21/2012, 4:43 AM
Tea, really? I didn't realize that..ok, clearly hasn't a clue. Let the bashing commence!
Comix - 4/21/2012, 4:43 AM
This was to be expected, there are always bad reviews for any movie that comes out. BUt yeah, [frick] her, Im seein this...
MrSuperheromoviefan - 4/21/2012, 4:47 AM
i don't see bad
she gave 3/5
what's bad about it?
RorMachine - 4/21/2012, 4:47 AM
haha, Bastard telling me to grow up is the comment of the day.
Nightmare7 - 4/21/2012, 4:47 AM
She herself is clearly the most rotten tomato and a horrible movie critic at that!As Thor would say"Have at thee Foul wench!"lmao..;p
SuperSomething616 - 4/21/2012, 4:51 AM
how is she a reviewer?
csheensrubber - 4/21/2012, 4:53 AM
i think she might have a mental disorder.she likes that poorly done tweenlight for god sakes.
heisei24 - 4/21/2012, 4:54 AM
NICK FROST?
RorMachine - 4/21/2012, 4:54 AM
Some critics do just like to go against the grain. Now I'm not saying she's lying and secretly loved it or anything, but they go in already waiting to jump on it because everyone else did the opposite. Armond White is the same..I refuse to believe that guy isn't just trolling at times.
LaputaHeir - 4/21/2012, 4:56 AM
Although, I the only review that matters to me...is my own.

I'm actually willing to bet that she's not THAT far off in her review. As fanboys tend to over exaggerate just how good/bad a movie really is.
shiverman20 - 4/21/2012, 4:57 AM
nothing to worry about, I really doubt that a significant number of people are gonna see this review amongst the others and say, "yeh, I'm gonna put my faith in that one chick's opinion"... I'm so completely buzzed about seeing this film on thursday!
SteveRogersSon - 4/21/2012, 4:58 AM
She's almost as smart as the shit I drop in my toilet but smarter than your average PatientZero or Just1SuperGuy...Defiantly smarter than Mothra
TheSkywalkingKnight - 4/21/2012, 4:59 AM
When the reviewer doesn't even seem to know that 3/5 is a positive review, I refuse to take anything they say into account.
gillri - 4/21/2012, 5:02 AM
she is right, obviously the only reason to see The Avengers is the TDKR trailer and scarlett's baps
thalidomide - 4/21/2012, 5:02 AM
@Ror

For some reason Armond isn't posting any reviews anymore, did he get fired or something? Maybe he has his own website.
thalidomide - 4/21/2012, 5:03 AM
@Tea

Gusto loves the Step Up franchise. :P
FireKnightRises - 4/21/2012, 5:03 AM
that's it, I won't watching AVENGERS :p
randymongoose - 4/21/2012, 5:03 AM
she also gave negative reviews to Pans Labyrinth, Slumdog Millionare and War Horse, but a good one to The Change Up
RorMachine - 4/21/2012, 5:03 AM
3/5 is generally seen as "good". But still just above average. Either way, her actual review does not reflect that rating, she all but bashes the damn movie.
razor - 4/21/2012, 5:04 AM
"I know less about them then I do the fighting Panda in Tekken."

I don't know if I trust a reviewer that uses "then" instead of "than."
ShadowPimp723 - 4/21/2012, 5:04 AM
transformers 3 is my favorite movie so i guess it must be good
driver - 4/21/2012, 5:07 AM
She says "there's not even character explanation" but in her beloved TwighShit not an inch of explanation to a mess happening on the screen(such as: boredom, syndrome of spontaneous shirt taking off, regular stupidity, and that bitch open mouth).
Even in the Avengers first teaser (that goes after First Avenger(with only glimpses of characters)) more character explanation and development then in that ass sniffing whole S(hit)AGA.
thalidomide - 4/21/2012, 5:08 AM
I saw her twitter account and apparently she regrets NOTHING!!!

PeeJ - 4/21/2012, 5:09 AM
As much as people are entitled to their own opinion. Look at this reviewers history. The last fair few reviews she's done are the exact opposite to what they majority have rated them.

More than likely, she puts contrary reviews up early to filter in some cheap hits to her site, pretty clever idea, if a little unscrupulous.

She also gets facts and names in the review straight up wrong. I dare say that she didn't pay too much attention to the film and more than likely had decided she wouldn't like it before seeing it.

On the other hand, she could genuinely just have horrible taste in films and be a terrible writer. Its a toss up.

(sorry for the delete and re-post tea, saw some stuff I needed to fix :P )
shiverman20 - 4/21/2012, 5:11 AM
While she's jacking it over her site views this weekend, we'll be spanking it with Scar-Jo and co!
elessarundomiel2382 - 4/21/2012, 5:12 AM
In what Universe is Green Lantern and Green Hornet better than The Avengers? This review is nonsense. I'll judge the movie for myself. How old is this person? I must admit Inception was a great movie but to have the same star rating as Step Up 3D..come on?
Toasty - 4/21/2012, 5:15 AM
The woman is clearly an idiot and should not be allowed to review films, she claims people who haven't seen the other marvel films will be lost? no shit you dumb bitch maybe it's because the movie is IN[frick]INGTENDED for people who have seen them? even a monkey could work that out.
Peteyparker - 4/21/2012, 5:15 AM
"The problem is that after controlling their own fiefdoms..." O_o.......What the hell is fiefdom?
Jefferys - 4/21/2012, 5:16 AM
This woman, needs to go to a pretty tall skyscraper… and jump off. I'm not joking. She has to be blonde. There's no other way to explain her idiotic behaviour.
JudgeDeath - 4/21/2012, 5:17 AM
here's another three star review. There are quite a few popping up now.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/film/2012/apr/20/avengers-assemble-review

samster10001 - 4/21/2012, 5:22 AM
The one thing I agree with her on about the movie is sam jacksons involvement. Overrated shit actor who kills every scene he's in. I don't buy him as fury and he should have never been cast. The rest of the movie looks badass. Can't wait.
thalidomide - 4/21/2012, 5:24 AM
@Peteyparker

Maybe she's high or drunk when she wrote the review :P
Peteyparker - 4/21/2012, 5:24 AM
P.S. Why doesn't anyone realize when Nick Fury arrived at the end of Iron Man 1 and said and i quote "...Avengers Initiative..." it didn't mean "Hey skip all the other movies that lead up to it"?!
Peteyparker - 4/21/2012, 5:27 AM
@Samster.......O_o.........I advise u pick up an Ultimate's comic because he gets the attitude and he's got the look. U telling me u see the Ultimate's Nick fury and say..what...Denzel Washington?
Marjoh63 - 4/21/2012, 5:33 AM
I dont usually say this but . . .
da fak I just read ?
Of course you will feel lost if you havent seen the other lead in movies !
What if you only saw the first Twishit movie and then saw Breaking dawn ? Wouldnt you be lost too , huh ?

Well if you judge from her previous reviews , you can see that she want to go against the mainstream or that she is utterly stupid !
phenomenon - 4/21/2012, 5:33 AM
that's why meryl-streep drama loving chicks shouldn't do this kind of reviews...... this is an action/youth-dreams/and kick-ass movie..... and no in depth-dramatization.... I bet she also would like too see more warm love-feelings in 300...... get a hanky.... rent steel magnolia's.....
Marjoh63 - 4/21/2012, 5:35 AM
EDIT ; Now I think about it , Twishit isnt a good example , because it doesnt have any real and moving storyline that have twists nor any interesting characters :P
skullboy - 4/21/2012, 5:35 AM
Rotten Tomatoes love it, huh? Typical since they've been pro-Marvel as of late...
Nubase - 4/21/2012, 5:36 AM
you have to understand her point of view, she is clearly not a comic book fan and not see cap america, hulk, iron man so she did not understand the build up from those moview that led up to avengers, she is a neutral so a review like this is bound to come out.

Every movie will have its critics, some judge a movie before its even released like so many people on this site.

l have to say so far the only marvel movie l liked was iron man 1 and l think many people are with me on that one. The others such as cap america and thor were good but did not do it for like iron man 1 did but many of you did like the other marvel movies.

l still have not seen avengers and this review will not stop me from seeing it.
Marjoh63 - 4/21/2012, 5:39 AM
Plus her grammar also questions her authencity as a reviewer , remember this rule !
Lets go eat grandpa
Lets go eat , grandpa

Grammar saves lives !

Woah , I feel like a ranting troll right now O-O
Peteyparker - 4/21/2012, 5:39 AM
@Pux "Come to San Diego theres so much to see, From the sparkling waters of Mission Bay to the warm tortillas of Old town, and after a day of sight seeing why not try spanking in one of city streets, San Diego Come....Take a Load Off"
phenomenon - 4/21/2012, 5:42 AM
pathetic..... that my just kiddin remark is deleted..... what ever happened too freedom of speech and black humor in your country...
merrillmind - 4/21/2012, 5:42 AM
WOW! A dumb person who pays clearly no attention to the film she reviewed this doesnt even count wish rottentomatoes was smart enough to discredit this IDIOT! I feel bad for her because judging on the overall concensus basically evryone beside this woman and were talking about major and multiple big film critics loved the move and found it to be either near-perfect or perfect not just as CBM but simply as a movie. Bottom line this review is pointless and when everyone on this site actually has seen it they'll know that this movie is the EPISODE IV of CBM the clear best ever made to date and a true masterpeice that will become as BIG as any movie EVER has period. SO just and fyi to the CBM community if when your done watching one of the best films ever made you come on here and trash it nobody will take you seriously and you will seem like nothing then what you are a STUPID TROLL! Oh and in closing after experiencing THE AVENGERS Im going to say that THE DARK KNIGHT RISES can only equal this movie not surpass it because it is a masterpeice and for all I know Nolan has made a masterpeice as well and iif so thats great because the more the merrier but THE AVENGERS has set the bar one I dont think will be surpassed anytime soon CBM from now on can only be as PHENOMENAL as this movie but NOTHING will be surpassing it this year only tieing it and we may NEVER see a movie like the first Avengers film for the rest of our lifetime.
samster10001 - 4/21/2012, 5:44 AM
@peteyparker- I know about how the ultimates version of fury was modelled after jackson its just I wish it wasn't. Lol!!! I think he's a terrible actor for the most part. His badass routine went out of style a while ago for me. Just sayin
BANE5000 - 4/21/2012, 5:45 AM
To put into question the credibility and basic good taste this critic has...I refer u to @Teabag first comment on this article, pretty much speaks for itself and the frame of mind of this critic lol
InfiniteMonkey - 4/21/2012, 5:49 AM
I agree on one thing about this, why always New York?...
'Nuff said.
merrillmind - 4/21/2012, 5:51 AM
Oh and also how fititng that THE AVENGERS such an EPIC team have now redefined the genre and set the bar far all further comic book movies. BRAVO JOSS! Now let's just cross our fingers and hopes he makes his "EMPIRE STRIKES BACK" and blows the first film out of the water I know you can do it Joss your "hint" at the sequel already keeps my faith in you as a film maker.Welcome to the list of BEST directors of all time Joss because the movie you pulled off was the impossible task everyone thought would fail I hope DC gives us a great JUSTICE LEAGUE film now that their is no longer doubt that a super team can make a great funny, exciting, serious but more importantly A GREAT MOVIE not just a great CBM but a GREAT MOVIE! People say that CBM are getting to worn out well considering the BEST one ever made to date just is now coming out for the masses I dont think this genre is going anywhere THANK YOU JOSS.
