Many fans were fond of referring to The Hunger Games (until the movie actually came out of course) as "the next Twilight", and now that is almost certain to start up again for the sequel. Think McFly Think have posted an article linking Pattinson to the role of Finnick Odair, a former tribute, described as something of a ladies man, who gets dragged into the Third Quarter Quell (a Hunger Games contested by previous winners).

Francis Lawrence took over directing duties on the Hunger Games sequel when Gary Ross opted out. Pattinson has previously starred in Water For Elephants under Lawrence, so there is that connection. Of course that could also be where the rumor sprang from too. Pattinson seems to have attempted to shy away from more mainstream fare recently, such as David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis which we will see him in next, so jumping right back into another big teen-orientated franchise seems strange for him. But who knows, The Hunger Games was very well recieved by critics as well as fans, so that would certainly be a draw.

Anyway, it's still just a rumor for now but how would you guys feel about R-Patz joining this franchise? Would he suit the role of Finnick? There certainly seems to be a resemblance to the character if the various fan depictions are anything to go by. Sound off below.

i wouldn't mind seeing him in it if it doesnt degrade itself to Twilight level and sticks to their successful formula.
BANE5000 - 5/23/2012, 5:04 AM
Oh they would, wouldn't they...
Jollem - 5/23/2012, 5:10 AM
i'd be tweaking out if i had to sit at an MTV function:)
AlSimmons - 5/23/2012, 5:11 AM
If he MUST be in it, at least make him have a horrible, slow death.
darkmetal - 5/23/2012, 5:12 AM
Im not a fan of him or Twilight, but he can act and may even regret getting caught up in the Edwardmania.
Of the main trio hes the only one who should be in films. The other 2 probably think their careers are made but getting cast in one role in a big movie or series doesnt make an actor an established actor.
Good example: Dean Cain. The "star" of a TV show because they thought he looked like Superman. He thought he was made. Started showin at Laker games like he was in the big leagues. Show ends, he goes for big parts, doesnt get them. He only "starred" in a TV show because of a resemblance to a character.
Example of success after a big role: Harrison Ford. Did small parts in TV and film. Quits acting then is in Star Wars. Did he then say "Im in the #1 movie of all time, Im only do movies if Im the star" ? Nope. Right after Star Wars he went for a few small roles in film beside bigger actors. When he did that, he established himself as an actor to the public and honed his skills and learned from others. By chance he got Indy Jones and that experience helped him slam dunk.
The best thing "Bella" and "Jake" could do is take small roles in quality movies, not assume being cast in Twilight wins you a career.
InfiniteMonkey - 5/23/2012, 5:33 AM
He can definitely act. Just give him the chance.
crazyish - 5/23/2012, 5:39 AM
never saw twilight but i remember him being in one of the harry potter movies. i think hes a good actor my only gripe is that i pictured Finnick to be slightly older then that. cant judge until you've seen it.
SuperDude001 - 5/23/2012, 5:41 AM
Him and Kristen Stewart can act (well he can definitely). It's just Twilight that majorly sucks in every way.
Although I haven't read Catching Fire yet so I don't know how Pattinson fits for this role, he might do well (although from what I've heard the kid from Tron Legacy is a fan favourite for the role)
RorMachine - 5/23/2012, 5:41 AM
I keep hearing "he can act with the right director", he hasn't had a chance to show what he can really do etc.. would anyone care to tell me what movies these are he supposedly gave these great performances in? I have seen 2 (or 3) Twilight movies, Water For Elephants, that Harry Potter he was in and some (ie as much as I could stomach) of Bel Ami and he was wooden as [frick] in every one.

R888 - 5/23/2012, 6:03 AM
Why do I care for this, I didn't like hunger games
MrLoki - 5/23/2012, 6:21 AM
that's a lie, it won't happen.
JillValenfield - 5/23/2012, 6:36 AM
Oh come on!!! I thought the twilight shit was over and now he will f@ck this good franchise too?!?

I really hope that this is fake, twilight is NOTHING compared to Hunger Games. Thats it!
UltimaRex - 5/23/2012, 6:37 AM
This must happen for the sole reason that it leaves Armie Hammer open for JLA.

Armie Hammer for JLA's Superman!
Ha1frican - 5/23/2012, 6:42 AM
He was fine in HP ill give him a shot.
Wildaniel - 5/23/2012, 6:48 AM
I hope not. It would be stupid to cast him. The only reason I think they would want him is so he can bring more people to the theaters, but we all know thats not a problem.
bamaman73 - 5/23/2012, 6:54 AM
Finnick should be bigger and older... Someone like Chris Evans... Pattinson is to young for the part. Love the books though.
Niuhll - 5/23/2012, 6:56 AM
Doesn't bother me, want him to get working on 'Kill Your Friends' if he's still attached.
ralfinader - 5/23/2012, 7:00 AM
I think this Patterson, or whatever, is a decent enough actor. Can't crucify him because he was written the way he was in Twishit. He was good in the Harry Potter movie, I thought. And I liked him in Twishit when he saved the chick who can't express any emotions from being gangraped.
Spidey31 - 5/23/2012, 7:01 AM
Good actor but he made a big mistake taking up the role of Edward cullen cuase it may hurt his chances of getting a GOOD role in a movie ad not some " let's cast him so the ladies will watch the movie.
GiantNerd0720 - 5/23/2012, 7:08 AM
Strictly for publicity purposes. [frick]ing Hollywood.
tweeeeenkies3 - 5/23/2012, 7:12 AM
This is not happening.
Trust me. Out of all the rumored actors, they won't be going for a Twilight member.

I mean, Armie Hammer has been rumored also.
I am sure they would go for him, not for Pattinson.
marvel72 - 5/23/2012, 7:14 AM
& people said this movie wasn't aimed at the twilight audience.
krazykat23 - 5/23/2012, 7:37 AM
Robert Pattinson is a decent actor. Everyone judges him on the Twilight movies. He would do well.
Shaman - 5/23/2012, 7:50 AM
Please, let's not all pretend every actor in Hunger Games was an award winner here and let us all ponder about... who actually cares. No, i mean seriously, who actually feels anything but indifference about this news? I'm curious.
hoodedjester - 5/23/2012, 7:53 AM
I boycot all movies that have any "actor" (if you can even call them that) from those stupid a$$ twilight movies. If they cast that ugly mofo I'll be skipping seeing the sequel.

Owlman - I affirm your comments - BS!!
patriautism - 5/23/2012, 7:55 AM
He played Cedric in Harry Potter, a much more important character than this in that series, and it didn't ruin those movies.
So I am not worried about it.
Shaman - 5/23/2012, 8:38 AM
hoodedjester- You honestly, truthfully believe Pattinson is detrimental to this franchise in any possible, fathomable way? For realz??? Like... we're talking from the bottom of your heart truth here...

You actually think the entire franchise will now suck just because he "might" have a small part in it? I'm with you on hating the pile of cabbage people call "Twilight" but seriously... are you gonna start hating anything Liam Neeson does just because he starred in Battleship and A-Team? So you would actually hate Nolan's Batman Trilogy just because Neeson chose to be a part of a shitty film? I know you didn't say that but you said something that means the same exact thing.

Seriously, do you cherish this film franchise enough to boycott it because Pattinson might be an insignificantly small part of it? I dunno... seems a bit "drastic", don't you find?
Shaman - 5/23/2012, 8:39 AM
...yes Ror, i know full well Pattinson is nowhere near Neeson's league. Just sayin...
revloveR - 5/23/2012, 8:50 AM
why? it made a shitload of money without him. and isn't finnick supposed to be like the pretty boy in all this? not to say pattison isn't good looking but, he's surely not what i imagined.
BigK1337 - 5/23/2012, 8:57 AM
If it is true, then I guess this solves the question of the connection between this series, Twilight, and Harry Potter.
NeoBaggins - 5/23/2012, 9:13 AM

DON'T, KILL, CEDRIC!

valeriesghost - 5/23/2012, 9:20 AM
Never had a problem with Pattinson, just Twilight.
claybo4131 - 5/23/2012, 9:36 AM
No way should Robert Pattinson be in Catching Fire. Hunger Games fans absolutely hate it when you compare this series to Twilight, that is like comparing an Audi to a Yugo. By putting Pattinson in this, the comparisons would be never ending. Guys in general hate the main 3 from the cast of Twilight, notice their movies that they have done outside of Twilight since they were in those movies have not fared well at the box office?

Finnick Odair is about 24 years old. He won the 65th Hunger Games at age 14 (its described in the book) and also got one of the most expensive sponsored items in the games, a trident & net which helped him win and since this is the 75th Hunger Games/3rd Quarter Quell, he would be 24. When I read the book, I pictured Garrett Hedlund as Finnick.
UltimaRex - 5/23/2012, 10:05 AM
@tweeeeenkies3. No, Armie Hammer must be kept for JLA.
claybo4131 - 5/23/2012, 10:31 AM
Armie Hammer no way he shouldn't be in Hunger Games, JLA or anything but playing that lame cartoon character Captain Planet. I know he is playing The Lone Ranger, but only Clayton Moore is The Lone Ranger to me. Since when did all you people like Arm & Hammer, did LEEEEEE convince you on his man crush?
claybo4131 - 5/23/2012, 10:33 AM
Where did you get that picture of Finnick, I never saw that in my book at all, or is that from another country?
Bartman87 - 5/23/2012, 10:48 AM
Hedlund and Stewart are actually in a new movie together "On the Road" so if Hedlund was cast you could still make a Twilight, Potter, and Hunger Games connection a'la 6 degree's of Robert Pattinson.
BatSupe3 - 5/23/2012, 10:56 AM
When I was reading the books, from the description it gives of Finnick, I was picturing more of an Alex Pettyfer than a Robert Pattinson. Pettyfer would be my first choice, the Garrett Hedlund...
claybo4131 - 5/23/2012, 11:02 AM
No to Alex Pettyfer. If you want to compare something to Twilight, I Am Number 4 was more like Twilight than Hunger Games was.
claybo4131 - 5/23/2012, 11:33 AM
DEBUNKED

No one from the cast of Twilight can be allowed in The Hunger Games, according to their contract at Summit Studios, which is now owned by Lionsgate. Summit distributed Twilight, Lionsgate released The Hunger Games. Found this article back from Feb 6, 2012 on Yahoo

ralfinader - 5/23/2012, 12:44 PM
@Neo - lol, that was probably my favorite scene in all the movies. The way they cracked up when he whipped out his wand on the playground... Where is Gusto?
trytan - 5/23/2012, 2:22 PM
I don't think the dude can act. He was ok in Harry Potter but that's it everything else I had to watch him in all he does is sqints, slowly raises his left arm to the girl, wides his eys to speak, then gets his normal face, over and over and over. IF he is in Catching Fire I will most likely not watch it beause he will ruin the whole movie for me.
NeoBaggins - 5/23/2012, 2:31 PM
@ralfinader Yeah, Big D was an asshole. You know, they actually deleted a scene where he made up with Harry.

Big D for life I guess.

DUD LIFE

ralfinader - 5/23/2012, 3:25 PM
@Neo - Yeah, shame too. They rushed through the beginning of Deathly Hallows. A part of the book I was looking forward to see was Big D thanking harry. I kind of hate myself for liking the damn books and movies as much as I did.
TheBatman1 - 5/24/2012, 8:17 PM
