5 Characters That Won't Appear In STAR TREK Sequel

We still don't know for certain who Benedict Cumberbatch will play, but it definitely won't be any of these guys. Producer Robert Orci dropped a few hints about what NOT to expect from J.J. Abrams' upcoming sequel..

Everyone is still speculating on which character Benedict Cumberbatch will play in the Star Trek sequel. We thought - or rather several news outlets thought - that it was a sure thing that he would play the classic villain Khan, but this has been denied by a few different sources, most recently by Simon Pegg who was very adamant that it wasn't the genetically engineered bad guy that would be giving the crew of The Enterprise headaches. So who is it? Well on AICN's radio show "Ask Mr. KERN" they managed to squeeze a few bits of info out of writer-producer Robert Orci, who confirms that the following characters will not appear in the sequel in any capacity. Now obviously the first one was never gonna be Cumberbatch anyway, but we can also rule out Alice Eve as Miss Rand..

1) Janice Rand

2) Gary Mitchell

3) Charlie X

4) Ruk

You will notice that he didn't say Khan! He may just be enjoying messing with us but my guess is that Khan IS in the movie, he's just not played by Cumberbatch and in all likelihood will only have a small role. Orci also said that 5) The Borg won't appear, and that there is only a 75% chance that the words "Star Trek" will even appear in the movie's title. He also confirmed plans for a Star Trek animated series with CBS.

They seem to be keeping very quiet on this film, not giving much info. While Khan seems to be the logical choice as villain, maybe the Romulans or Gorn will be used. Looking forward to this film, enjoyed the first Star Trek by JJ.

am i missing the "5th" name somewhere?
Vafrous - 6/26/2012, 4:59 AM
Chances are, Cumberbatch is playing an original character...
hellfire - 6/26/2012, 5:02 AM
Thought this was interesting two young looking actors who have now both been in a star trek film
jmunny - 6/26/2012, 5:03 AM
@vafrous - that would be my preference. They did pretty well with Nemo.
LP4 - 6/26/2012, 5:03 AM
Ror, it aint khan, GIVE UP. I prefer a NEW villain.
golden123 - 6/26/2012, 5:16 AM
@NorrinRaddical: The Borg is the fifth.
Vafrous - 6/26/2012, 5:16 AM
@Jmunny You mean Nero...
Vafrous - 6/26/2012, 5:20 AM
Is Benedict playing the same role that they were only looking at latino actors for (Del Toro, Ramirez, Guy from Columbiana)? Or is it a different character?

@imnotahero

LOL.. Python lives on.

A friend of mine suggests Benedict is playing Joachim, Khan's right hand. I won't be surprised if Khan dies on his ship and Joachim takes over as the leader of the eugenics and to avenge him. I mean, they did say that they won't remake the ST:TOS ep...

Godzillafart - 6/26/2012, 6:52 AM

NTOCG - 6/26/2012, 7:13 AM
I thought it was already confirmed as Khan?
BRandom - 6/26/2012, 7:14 AM
@Hellfire...what trek film was Tom Hardy in?
Fogs - 6/26/2012, 7:15 AM
@imnotahero - OH MAN, THAT'S CLASSIC!

Holy Hand Grenade FTW!
BRandom - 6/26/2012, 7:18 AM
@Hellfire...Should have used IMDB first, it was Nemesis.

Also, While I was on IMDB I saw Hardy is doing the Mad Max reboot
hellfire - 6/26/2012, 7:55 AM
@brandom haha yeah it caught me by surprise cause I first saw Hardy in The Take when it first aired on tv. From that I went on to see Bronson and it was shortly after that I discovered he was in Nemesis.

Yeah Mad Max seem to have been taking ages what with the delays.
AlexDeLarge87 - 6/26/2012, 8:17 AM
I hope he plays totally new villain.

Khan cameo would be cool thou.
OhGawDuhhh - 6/26/2012, 8:24 AM
No matter what, this movie will kick so much ass! I love adventure movies like this!!

I live in Tampa, FL. If you don't know this, we're being rocked by a massive tropical storm. I think I'm gonna brew some coffee and watch me some alternate reality 'Star Trek'. Too bad 'The Avengers' isn't out on blu-ray yet.

In the new Star Trek video game, the Gorn are the enemy and the story leads up to the sequel so I'll guess we'll see when the game launches.
TheIconicMan - 6/26/2012, 8:31 AM
Come on? Gary Mitchell either? Oh! Come on! I like the guy!
Vafrous - 6/26/2012, 8:34 AM
@Hellfire Freddie Jackson was one crazy f'er...
hellfire - 6/26/2012, 8:37 AM
@vaf LOL too right he fitted that character to a t
eleven59 - 6/26/2012, 8:56 AM
very interesting if khan dies in this timeline and his number one takes his place. it would fit.

but no mention about ridgeless Klingons!!?? ;)
6of13 - 6/26/2012, 9:37 AM
Please, no Khan.

Cumberbatch - a ridgless Klingon? Maybe. It's not impossible.

Also, just why are the Klingons wearing masks?

If you bring in the ridgless Klingons you still touching upon the eugenics/augment story arc. So just because Orci doesn't say Khan doesn't mean he won't be mentioned.
6of13 - 6/26/2012, 9:53 AM
I agree with LP4.

Cumberbatch is playing the role first offered to Benecio del Toro. I can very easily see del Toro as a Klingon.

I highly enjoyed the first one and I'm excited about this one. I just hope they calm down a little bit on the lens flares. Just a little.:)
BRandom - 6/26/2012, 1:19 PM
@Hellfire Bronson was an awesome movie, however I would have been fine with a lot less penis. Warrior and Bronson is what sold me on him being Bane. Dude looks like he can really kick some ass
abw2 - 6/26/2012, 5:25 PM

@supershadowbat: ...I think that I would rather see the Gorn as the villains... I don't really need to see the Romulans..., two films in a row here, ya know?... *cool*/P :)

hellfire - 6/27/2012, 1:29 AM
@Brandom Couldn't agree with you more mate. Two excellent films.
