According to Collider, The Darkness is getting the big screen treatment. Apparently Regency is nearing a deal to obtain the feature film rights with producers David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman (The Fighter, The Muppets, with Total Recall director and Len Wiseman on board also. The mythology heavy comic book - created by Marc Silvestri, Garth Ennis, and David Wohl - focuses on one of the primal forces of the Universe known as "The Darkness", which attaches itself to a human host. The lucky guy in this case is Jackie Estacado, a former hitman for the Franchetti Family mob. For a much lengthier synopsis click the link back to Collider below. More details on the movie adap as we have em.

Is it dark?
DukeAcureds - 7/9/2012, 2:27 PM
Ooooh. Now if you'd have said Witchblade, I might be excited.
DukeAcureds - 7/9/2012, 2:28 PM
^ ^ The two Dukes. Heh. ^ ^
Hellsing - 7/9/2012, 2:36 PM
JGL as Jackie Estacado FTW
BigDamnHero - 7/9/2012, 2:43 PM
If they get their inspiration from the video games, which are in my opinion, far better than the comics, this could be pretty good.
silverdog - 7/9/2012, 2:45 PM
let me guess.. ryan reynolds up for the role?
DukeAcureds - 7/9/2012, 2:48 PM
They should do a non-Sara Pezzini Witchblade movie. There are many cool old skool versions throughout history that they could play with. Any one of them would be awesome.
DeMoNaSsDiZ - 7/9/2012, 2:49 PM
I hope this ends up taking flight. Did an article back in 2010 on this. Doesn't seem to have gotten any legs until now.

Hopefully we'll finally see these stories come to full fruition. Horror comics need films!
redsonjustin - 7/9/2012, 2:51 PM
Great.
CherryBomb - 7/9/2012, 2:51 PM
Grrrrr before a Witchblade movie?
Screw you.
Lasher88 - 7/9/2012, 2:55 PM
Hell Yeah!!!
worldbreaker - 7/9/2012, 2:56 PM
lovely snow angel tea
DukeAcureds - 7/9/2012, 2:56 PM
CherryBomb@ Exactly!!!
That's like DC doing an Outsiders movie before Superman or Batman and Marvel doing Devil Dinosaur before X-Men or Spider-Man.
Like WTFizzy laces is up with tha?!
SageMode - 7/9/2012, 2:58 PM
Bring it on. Just don't make it like the video games
Asterisk - 7/9/2012, 2:59 PM
Huh. I wonder if Image will try to set up their own shared universe. That'd be interesting.
DukeAcureds - 7/9/2012, 3:04 PM
Whatever happened to McFarlane's Spawn Requel? Is that just one of those never to be made vanity films like Marylin Manson's Wonderland?
Asterisk - 7/9/2012, 3:09 PM
If they DO decide to do a Image Cinematic Universe, please don't let Ratner do Youngblood.
Optimus83 - 7/9/2012, 3:09 PM

¡¡¡WITCHBLADE MOVIE!!!. ...WHEN???
CherryBomb - 7/9/2012, 3:11 PM

@DukeAcureds I AGREE. I think it's a sexist issue, I mean, generally speaking comic films with female leads don't do so well, BUT that's only because they've all been terribly movies. I think a Witchblade movie, done serious, edgy, dark and not relying completely on sex appeal will work.

Sara Pezzini is a great character, one of my favourites.
RorMachine - 7/9/2012, 3:11 PM
I read a couple of Darkness comics a few years ago, they seemed ok..nothing to rave about. But I have heard from people that are fanatics so maybe there's something there.
Buddha29 - 7/9/2012, 3:14 PM
If they do this right it could be really cool. Been hoping for this a long while.

And @CherryBomb I'm sure the Witchblade could have a cameo to a spinoff. She did have her own series after all. Let's let the Darkness have some fun.
DanteSparda - 7/9/2012, 3:15 PM
Well, I loved the Darkness videogame, but hated the Underworld movies, so I, like, just gonna sit here and, like, wait and see... yes.
DukeAcureds - 7/9/2012, 3:18 PM
CherryB@ That'll be it. Which is [frick]ing ridiculous in this day and age.
Catwoman was shit compared to the Nolan Batman films, but it's a great kids film. It works. Kids love it.
Elektra was not exactly what it should have been, but it wasn't that bad, compared to a lot of bad Marvel movies with male leads, liuke Ghost Rider 2 and Punisher - War Journal. That's not gonna stop them from making another male Marvel superhero movie.
This is why we don't have a Witchblade movie?!!!
This is why we don't have a Wonder Woman???!!!!
This is wrong.
Avengers is one the highest grossing films of all time. Black Widow has a sixth of that success. Take note Hollywood.
DukeAcureds - 7/9/2012, 3:21 PM
Buddha29@ She did have her own series. And if I remember correctly, that is where The Darkness got his debut. In Witchblade #10.
ironknight27 - 7/9/2012, 3:27 PM
If they base it off of the Darkness Accursed books it would be good. I strongly encourage anyone to read the Darkness Accursed books. It was probably one of the best storylines I've read in a while.
tweeeeenkies3 - 7/9/2012, 3:32 PM
WE.NEED.A.WITCHBLADE.MOVIE.

I just really want a kick ass female lead superhero movie, that does not suck balls, like Elektra and Catwoman! Please for the love of God, can we get a Witchblade movie before this????
hope420 - 7/9/2012, 3:35 PM
By living in LA I can relate to the Darkness. "A guy that if he has sex he dies"! In LA you gotta becareful with the ladies around here! I've been lucky but sadly some people I know came down with a form of the Darkness.
AlexDeLarge87 - 7/9/2012, 3:35 PM
YAY CANT WAIT!8D

Next Spawn and Witchblade please. :P

And not that crappy idea which MacFarlane was going to do. But really badass and dark version.
I want to see Spawn kicking Violator´s ass again.

Alex Proyas and Juan Carlos Fresnadillo are first two who comes in mind when thinking who could direct these.
Optimus83 - 7/9/2012, 3:43 PM

the argentinian models Zaira Nara, Mariana Marino or Sandra Bustamante are good options for Detective Sara Pezzini in a Witchblade: Movie. ...

Zaira Nara

Mariana Marino

Sandra Bustamante

OTHER OPTIONS:

Evangeline Lilly as Det. Sara Pezzini/Witchblade

Izabel Goulart as Det. Sara Pezzini/Witchblade

Kate Upton as Danielle Baptiste/Witchblade
Buddha29 - 7/9/2012, 3:58 PM
@DukeAcureds - Sorry, I was talking about the short lived TV show with Yancy Butler. I would be more than happy if they did a movie for both since they were so intertwined in the books here and there and got some Top Cow going. That would be sweet. Though I hold out hope for a PITT movie one day.
QuietStorm - 7/9/2012, 4:09 PM
Tea. I needed that gif right now at this very moment. My day just turned to shot. Truly appreciate what you bring to the site. I give you boobs.

CherryBomb - 7/9/2012, 6:13 PM
I wish they'd make a Gen 13 Live-Action movie. that'd be awesome

HULK2099 - 7/9/2012, 6:17 PM
Should be interesting
djmyth13 - 7/9/2012, 7:27 PM
I'm a huge Darkness fan...thinking either Collin Farrel or Joe Manganiello foe Jackie. or if they want to go younger Stephen Strait.
vexfly - 7/9/2012, 7:40 PM
Cherry, I totally agree with both your pick of C.Belle and a Gen-13 flick :) I have the animated show-pilot but its in Italian :/

The Darkness would definitely need a very large Fx budget and some of the top CGI teams out there to do it any justice, which I don't really see happening. I'm afraid something like this would turn into a "made for tv" deal. I'd still probably enjoy it and want it made, but I don't see it being done right or attracting enough attention to get a good cast, and $$$backing
Optimus83 - 7/9/2012, 7:47 PM

and What do you think of Kate Beckinsale as Sara Pezzini/Witchblade???
Optimus83 - 7/9/2012, 7:53 PM

and What do you think of Rhona Mitra as Sara Pezzini/Witchblade???
thewolfx - 7/9/2012, 7:53 PM
please for the love of god dont base it off the videogames

jackie actual has DARKNESS ARMOR

if thats not in the movie its dead on arrival

the games limit his power

if some of you want that then you're just stupid =/

vtopa - 7/9/2012, 8:05 PM

thewolfx - 7/9/2012, 8:25 PM

EastcoastAvenger - 7/9/2012, 8:39 PM
Finally, a dark and edgy comic book movie! Hollywood take note!
vtopa - 7/9/2012, 8:46 PM
RATED R OR go home...
Bandrews1 - 7/9/2012, 8:51 PM
The Darkness is a pretty good property to adapt and its also somewhat underrated imo. I hope it turns out to be great.
weaponx123 - 7/9/2012, 9:01 PM
Taylor Kitsch as Jackie Estacado all the way!!! He looks just like the guy...he would be perfect for it especially after seeing him in Savages !!! Hope Len Wiseman directs it too!!!
