With the likes of the Clash Of The Titans movies and Immortals making big bucks, it was only a matter of time before a movie studio saw the sense in adapting the similarly themed, but far more adult orientated, God Of War games for the big screen. It turns out that studio was Universal, who has tapped Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan - writers of Pacific Rim and all six SAW movies - to rewrite a script (David Self, who is exec producing, wrote the initial draft) for an adaptation of the Sony Computer Entertainment video game.

Charles Roven and Alex Gartner are producing via Atlas Entertainment. So who would be your pick to play Kratos then?

When have video game movies ever been as good as the games.
STARKILLER21 - 7/10/2012, 6:02 PM
SWEET, as long they get a good actor for Kratos, I am alright and NEEDS to be true to the game.
Sabconth - 7/10/2012, 6:05 PM
@StarSpangledBruce

Never, but the animated Street Fighter 2 was a good video game movie.

They'd need a colossal budget to do God of War justice, and it simply won't happen.
thanos83 - 7/10/2012, 6:07 PM
Theres been a draft of this script floating around since forever..
thanos83 - 7/10/2012, 6:08 PM
by David Self no less
dahamma - 7/10/2012, 6:13 PM
just have him cameo in the 300 prequel kratos would fit right in lol
preacher - 7/10/2012, 6:18 PM
So long as they make it R-rated and not try to follow the game to the letter, it could be awesome!
LucasMend - 7/10/2012, 6:20 PM
Noooo, leave God Of War alone Hollywood. And God of War is sony, wasn't it supposed to be released by Sony/Columbia? Guess they don't want their hands dirty

WAIT,there is a God Of War movie in the works?......huh well i hope it's going to be epic
SageMode - 7/10/2012, 6:22 PM
HELL [frick]ING YEAH! Hollywood, don't you screw this up, or I'll will hunt you down and complain.......:-)

Oh yeah, Jason Momoa for Kratos.

SUPERMAN2013 - 7/10/2012, 6:25 PM
The only problem I have with a game being made into a movie is that they think they have to make an entirely different story up just to be different, then the director think he can put his own spin on things and then it all just gets [frick]ed,if they just did a film based of the first what ever, like tomb raider, they should of just done a film based off the first game...its [frick]ing simple
REDSTORM - 7/10/2012, 6:27 PM
Gross. It'll probably suck like most other video game movies. To get all the elements of the game into film would mean having get like an X rating.
thanos83 - 7/10/2012, 6:31 PM
John Milius (Conan 1982..the good one) would be perfect for writing this
Spidey31 - 7/10/2012, 6:32 PM
Assassins creed will probably be the best video game movie and will launch the video game movie industry. If that happens filmmakers will be positive that a halo movie could finally work! Imagine how much money that would make if done right?
twiggy3634 - 7/10/2012, 6:50 PM
@StarSpangledBruce

Tomb Raider, solely because of Jolie
bhorwith22 - 7/10/2012, 6:52 PM
Jason Momoa (Ronon Dex from Stargate Atlantis) would be a good pick.
If they make it, I think Zach Snyder would be a good choice for director, or at least somebody who could give it the '300' feel.
I doubt ultra-realism would work for something like God of War, at least not a film that would be like the game(s). I would love to see it, though. Of course, that would mean that they would have to change quite a few things from the games that might not be to the delight of some fans. Personally, I don't mind it.
SHHH - 7/10/2012, 6:59 PM
Bout Damn Time.. Don't [frick] It Up...
CaptainObvious - 7/10/2012, 7:07 PM
These guys wrote Pacific Rim? Now I have a reason to worry about that movie.
Bigred20 - 7/10/2012, 7:11 PM
They'll totally make it PG13
Durf - 7/10/2012, 7:13 PM
[frick] yeah! Love the games, hope this movie is awesome. If it sucks, I will be REALLY pissed...
Durf - 7/10/2012, 7:17 PM
@weneedrevelation: I don't know, but that is badass
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/10/2012, 7:23 PM
The games are like movies. Look I LOVE God of War, it was the reason I bought a PS3, however if this is a half ass cash in then just forget it. I personally think Zach Snyder was born to direct this movie, but they need to get a good actor to play Kratos. Honestly I could see the rock playing Kratos. But I doubt he would do it, because it isn't a kids movie.
Optimus83 - 7/10/2012, 7:24 PM
¡¡¡GOD OF WAR MOVIE!!!. ...¡¡¡NOW!!!
xXkryptoniteXx - 7/10/2012, 7:27 PM
Hell yeah, hope they get Sam worthington in it as Perseus so that he can get his ass killed, just like in god of war 2.
TheDesertGorilla - 7/10/2012, 7:31 PM
This guy...

Durf - 7/10/2012, 7:32 PM
@weneedrevelation: yeah, you have to be pretty badass to make the Goddess of Love all hot and heavy. Qualifies you as a super stud

@RFBD: The Rock could be pretty cool as Kratos
BIGBMH - 7/10/2012, 7:41 PM
kratos in an awful character
MrDuck - 7/10/2012, 7:43 PM
Gay. Assassins Creed should and most likely will be made into a series but the studio will most likely just merge all the God of War games into one movie and it will suck so much ass. It'll be like Wrath of the Titans all over again
hxcgamer91 - 7/10/2012, 7:52 PM
hopefully they can pull this off the visuals in the god of war games were always amazing i just hope they can capture that
LucasMend - 7/10/2012, 7:52 PM
@Intruder Want a worst news? Need For Speed movie is in the works
gmoney0505 - 7/10/2012, 8:00 PM
Djimon Hounsou will make a great bad ass Kratos.

God of War is made for the movies. But I think it maybe too epic to be a movie. Well at least God of War 3 is.
SCURVYDOG619 - 7/10/2012, 8:08 PM
So the God Of War movieis back on again.

Apparently.

Until I see an actual release date,I'm going to remain skeptical about this news..
Sanderman - 7/10/2012, 8:22 PM
Man video game movies are makin a comeback. Mortal Kombat, Assassins Creed, and now God of War? I hope they all do good
worldbreaker - 7/10/2012, 8:31 PM
if this gets done right...oh sex yes!
Jolt17 - 7/10/2012, 8:35 PM
I was actually thinking that a motion-capture film, a la Beowulf will suit this adaptation perfectly (well, I believe it does)...but then again, it kind of destroys the purpose for a live-action video game adaptation, huh? The visual, and all that, will make it look like the big screen version of the game's cinematic instead. Anyway, my pick for Kratos will be Tom Hardy.
Jolt17 - 7/10/2012, 8:41 PM
I was about to go with Dominic Purcell, who physically resembles Kratos best...but I kind of doubt his skills. While Hardy has the physique and is a good actor, he indeed is short - but in a film where he interacts with giant gods, monstrous creatures, et cetera, I don't think his size matters much.
AsianVersionOfET - 7/10/2012, 9:10 PM
Some of my favorite games of all time. If this movie was done right, it would be absolutely delicious.
CPBuff22 - 7/10/2012, 9:14 PM
Movies I can't believe haven't been made yet. God of War, Gears of War, & Halo. And what do we get instead.... BATTLESHIP! *sigh*
soaponapope - 7/10/2012, 9:25 PM
LOL the writer of the "Saw" movies writing the script, seems extremely appropriate with the level of violence in GOW. The problem though is the same problem Deadpool is going through- it has to be rated R to be accurate to the source material and just to be good overall, but obviously rated R will greatly lower the amount of people seeing it and therefore $$
l0rdleg0las - 7/10/2012, 10:54 PM
Joe Magianello for Kratos. he's a big dude, can do the imposing look and is a strong enough actor to pull off the part.
R888 - 7/10/2012, 11:20 PM
yes awesome indeed
Darthkostis - 7/11/2012, 12:03 AM
Hell yeah!!Now we just have to wait.And wait.And wait.Until they cancel the movie.OR we see a trailer!In 5 years.
kyle12688 - 7/11/2012, 12:11 AM
I'm going to say this I know I might get some flack for it Gerard Butler and not really because of the whole 300 thing even though he showed he can get in real good shape but of his voice that really matches Kratos in a big way but this is wishful thinking
AlexDeLarge87 - 7/11/2012, 1:17 AM
As much as i would like to see this one the big screen...
I cant see any studio making justice for it. It needs big budget and R-Rating and those two things walk very rarely together these days.
breakUbatman - 7/11/2012, 1:46 AM
But can they get the voice right, Kratos and Snake are essentially tied to their voice actors that you'll end up with another Conroy/Batman situation.

I'm against Snyder for this though, stylized violence comes off as "soft" give me some Gladiator, Kill Bill dismemberment any day.

I smell another roll for Dwayne Johnson.
