Jeremy Renner has sounded ever so slightly disappointed in his lack of screen time -- at least when compared to the rest of the cast -- in Marvel's The Avengers in past interviews, and that continues here. In an interview with the LA Times' Hero Complex, the Bourne Legacy actor brings up the fact that for most of the movie, Clint Barton is actually an "evil" version of himself after being enslaved by Loki, and only gets to cut loose as the real Hawkeye towards the end. Renner says that he much preferred playing the "good" Hawkeye, because the other version
had "no real consciousness to him"..

"At the end of the day, 90% of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play. I’m literally in there for two minutes, and then all of a sudden… All I could really work on was the physical part of it all, because that didn’t change. That was just the biggest challenge to overcome in playing the guy."

When asked flat out if he was disappointed, Renner responds very diplomatically --"You know, there are a lot of people in that movie. And a lot of important characters. And my character, I felt like if I can help serve story, then I did my job.". Well, I don't think he really has any reason to be disappointed. Hawkeye may not have had as much to do as the rest of the team, but Renner did a great job with everything he did do, and actually emerged as many fans' favorite character. Which brings us to that solo Hawkeye movie we have heard might be on the cards. Unfortunately Renner doesn't seem to know much more than we do, but says there is always a possibility..

"I don’t know. I think there’s always possibilities of anything in the Marvel universe. There’s gotta be a want from people to see something like that. I don’t know if there is. Maybe there is maybe there isn’t. But who knows? We’ll see."

I'd love to see a Hulk and Thor team up...

superotherside - 8/7/2012, 5:31 AM
I hope he gets to play in some movie, perhaps in Cap, guy did a great job with Hawkeye, although I would like him to be a little bit more cocky and wanting to fight Cap like in the original comics.
MrReese - 8/7/2012, 5:50 AM
@Intruder Hulk was the best part dude. When Cap says "Dr.banner now might be a good time 2 get angry" & Bruce says "That's my secret Cap I'm always angry" that was [frick]in insane!!! Best part of the movie 4 me hands down.
thalidomide - 8/7/2012, 5:50 AM

The new Bourne movie is atrocious. Having said that, I don't see too many people clamoring for a solo movie with the most "poked fun at" character of the film. If you could do the movie on the cheap (say a budget under 100 million dollars), they might be able to sneak one out during February or January of some year. Still, Marvel has other properties that would be much more interesting to see come to life on the big screen, and a robin hood, err, Green Arrow I mean Hawkeye movie is not one of them. Same goes for Black Widdow.
BlanketMan - 8/7/2012, 6:24 AM
"90% of the movie, I’m not the character I signed on to play." I guess that's a legit gripe, but at least he got some of the best moments of the final battle. I hope we see Renner-as-Barton again, this time as 'himself' the whole time!
ryanjdrf1992 - 8/7/2012, 6:24 AM
speaking of diva @intruder clearly thinks highly of himself pardon me if in a 2 and a half hour movie he's only got maybe 10 mins of screen time. he's a 2 time oscar nominee, he can be disappointed. and he probably doesn't care if your comment is "HIGH" or not. because you don't matter. cheers mate.
Gromblidor - 8/7/2012, 6:26 AM
I don't care what you do with him, just give him a purple and black helmet like Cap's.
marvel72 - 8/7/2012, 6:27 AM
hawkeye was good in the avengers but i don't think his good enough to carry a solo movie, maybe a shield movie with hawkeye & black widow.
LMB10 - 8/7/2012, 6:31 AM
A lower budget Hawkeye film would be good.
TheGlove - 8/7/2012, 6:32 AM
Hawkeye solo film...? F**K off!
comicb00kguy - 8/7/2012, 6:34 AM
I think Hawkeye would work better in a film with Black Widow than purely solo. Those two have enough history in the Marvel movie universe to make for a really entertaining and fun movie. I might have Cap pop in for a scene or two just to keep the crossover thing alive, and just because those two characters have such an interesting relationship.

As to the main question of would I want to see a Hawkeye movie? Absolutely!
SparrowWithaMachineGun - 8/7/2012, 6:34 AM
He said that he was in for 2 minutes "and then......." He's talking about how much screen time the character had before turning evil (Every Villain Is Lemons). He isn't being a diva - Intruder, I'm looking at you.
dezdigi - 8/7/2012, 6:39 AM
I hope he comes back, but not in a solo film.
JatevinM - 8/7/2012, 6:41 AM
I want to know what happened in Budapest so I say give him and Black Widow a movie fleshing out both their origins and showing us Budapest. Name the movie "Agents of Shield: The Hawk and The Widow"
ryanjdrf1992 - 8/7/2012, 6:41 AM
again with the big boy talk. i continue to feed the monster and i do not know why. when you count the minutes, and i'm sure there are websites that do, i feel confident you will see hawkeye probably has around 10 min of screen time (give or take).

and also you "dumbshit" no one is arguing he is a side character. You'll have to point out to me where i said he was the lead, i do not remember saying that, however I believe that it wouldn't have killed anyone to give him a slightly more significant role. especially considering that he was one of maybe 2 characters we didn't really know coming in, there was a lot of wasted potential.

so as to you my good sir, i only say work on your argument. because though you have some valid points you dumb yourself down with your immature language and "shit talking" and take away just about any validity or respect i would have for argument and instead you just appear to be a anal teenager who wants to get in a fight with someone. i will not fight with you rather then point out that between me and you, im the only one making intelligent comments and not pissed of rants. cheers.
Kayo - 8/7/2012, 6:44 AM
Hawkeye is Jeremy Renner, absolutely badass in the movie.
Cosmic1 - 8/7/2012, 6:46 AM
He's not a super heroe, doesn't have a real costume (really they could have given him a mask or eye wear with a nod to the original) and was my least favorite of the movie, I mean any generic shield agent could have played that role, hopefully hawkeye won't be in the next flick, he was cool in the old school comics n cartoons, just think they could have used his screen time to give us more hulk.
OhGawDuhhh - 8/7/2012, 6:59 AM
His screen time was perfect! At first, when Loki took him over 5 minutes in, I was like, 'WTF?' but then he was terrifying because his skill set is so ridiculously high!!

When Loki's enchantment was broken, and he FINALLY got to use his skills for the Avengers and wanted to shoot Loki in the eye for revenge.. hot damn it was awesome.
EarOne - 8/7/2012, 6:59 AM
maybe he's just disappointed that marvel's production slate doesn't include a SHIELD or a hawkeye solo movie, which was maybe was "promised" to him during his negotiation for The Avengers with Marvel.

personally, i am quite disappointed myself with the inclusions of Guardians of Galaxy and Ant-Man, instead of a SHIELD and Black Panther movies. i'm also baffled with the decision of adapting Bucky's return in Cap's first sequel, instead of fully focusing on Steve Rogers and his relationship with Fury and his SHIELD.

i really hope feige & friends don't get over their heads and forgetting who they make these films for (the GENERAL filmgoers, who're mostly NOT fanboys) by doing movies with very limited appeal outside the CBM world.
EarOne - 8/7/2012, 7:03 AM
oh while we're on Hawkeye, i'd like to ask all of you..

do you prefer the classic sharp-tongue playboy, rather obnoxious Hawkeye, or the sharp-shooting family agent man Hawkeye for the big screen live-action version..??

i think the movie version needs to have some traits from both comic book versions. just the ultimate version is kinda dull, cuz he's such a straight arrow type, but i kinda expected this when they cast Renner in this role.
dahamma - 8/7/2012, 7:05 AM
COme on Renner!! My girlfriend was absolutely in LOve with Hawkeye and she didn't know ANYTHING about him!!

He has no choice in the matter, he is the only guy that can be Hawkeye, he was freaking AWESOME!!!

And like INtruder said, this guy SINGLE Handedly DESTROYED the Helicarrier with just a Bow and arrow. How awesome is that.

Im sorry but Hawkeye is the coolest archer on screen to date, green arrow has zero chance now lol
ryanjdrf1992 - 8/7/2012, 7:17 AM
Fantastic spelling my friend. No I don't know who the [frick] you are. Should I? Should I be super impressed with you? Should I be thankful you're talking to me? Should I go buy a goddamn autograph book for you to sign so I can show my kids that I met a man, a man who talks big talk on the internet under the name Intruder so as no one can really know who he is? Is that what I should be doing? Sorry mate you're just another internet punk. There are millions of you skeez muffins. You are not unique. You are not original. You are another bad joke. I'm sorry that I'm not impressed but there is nothing impressive about you. You are in EVERY WAY immature. You are an upset child who is upset because not everyone is impressed by you're dumbass, ignorant comments. There are 7 billion people on this earth mate, you are not unique, you're just another internet troll.
valeriesghost - 8/7/2012, 7:18 AM
We all know who intruder is. The biggest troll on CBM.

JayTopStix - 8/7/2012, 7:46 AM
As long as he wears a mask I am in.
GoILL - 8/7/2012, 7:55 AM
@MrReese great gifs.
JoeMomma29 - 8/7/2012, 8:25 AM
Wow Intruder really you want to punch him in the face?
DanteSparda - 8/7/2012, 8:26 AM
Well, he could go for a solo movie, a SHIELD movie or to appear in a Cap movie, there are a lot of possibilities.

Just wonder, if Black Widow is set to appear in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and she ends falling in love with Bucky then it would make an interesting love triangle with Hawkeye...
JoeMomma29 - 8/7/2012, 8:30 AM
Intruder you are certainly becoming a troll and a thug on this site! It is amazing how no one else can have a valid opinion but you!!!
