Some Examples Of Legendary Comic Artist Joe Kubert's Work

Another sad day for the comic community, as Joe Kubert passed away yesterday at the age of 85. Best known for his incredible work on the likes of Sgt. Rock, Hawkman, Tarzan, Tor, Enemy Ace and Unknown Soldier, click for some great examples of his cover art..

As we have already reported, Joe Kubert passed away over the weekend at age 85. Born in Poland in 1926, shortly before immigrating to the US, Kubert was one of the few left whose careers stretched back to nearly the dawn of the comic book. He spent most of his career working for DC Comics, developing his own unique style and becoming most associated with Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, Hawkman and the prehistoric Tor.

I was enrolled in his art school for a while after i graduated high school. Amazing artist and a terrific dude, this news is very saddening

Becoming a student at his school is one of my biggest post-high school dreams, and it's sad to hear that the man has passed away. Not that I'm very familiar with his work, but he's certainly a legend.

Rest in peace, Mr. Kubert. Your great sons will continue your legacy.

Yea,Joe was a cool artist & I like how each of his sons borrow from their fathers artistic style.
Andy draws more like Joe but overall Adam is the best Kubert artist in my opinion.

Adam is great. Majority of his work that is now being published I was able to see in class before it was inked and colored. Joe on the other hand, he kept his work secret haha. One of my teachers there would tell me whenever he had the chance, that he saw something of Joe's, like the Nite-Owl work. So sad that he's gone.

Always loved Kubert's artwork. THIS is real comics art.

Not like some of the crap work from Mrs. McGready's fifth grade class that sometimes passes for comic book art in today's comics...the Bendis run of Avengers comes most readily to mind.

I like this stuff a LOT better than a lot of the current "art" in today's comics. Artists like Kubert, or my all-time favorite, Mike Grell, blow this amateurish crap out of the water.

Man this is very sad news......You see I lived next to Mr. Kubert in Dover, NJ. He was such a great guy. My parents use to rent our basement to people that went to his school. That is how I got into comics. I use to drive Mike Chen (student) crazy because I would ask so many questions. Now I pass on my love of comics to my son Seth. I have so many memories to thank Joe Kubert for and also now my son will too. Good bye my friend. You left a legacy behind and you will truly be missed.

the world has lost a true great artist his family has lost a member both grieve and the world looks at his art and remembers his influence, now we feel sad for his family and his friends and let them know he was loved by many.

Intellectually, you know that a man of Joe Kubert's age is likely to soon pass on;

Knowing that doesn't ease the sense of loss one feels (FOR ONE SINGLE MOMENT!!)when he finally does.

Mr Kubert always greeted me with a smile when I attended his school. An amazingly skilled artist and a nice guy.
He'll be missed.

Some of my first comics were his Tarzan run for DC. His gritty style just couldn't be beat for the War books and barbarian style adventures. I will so miss his work and know he so highly reguarded in the industry. Rest In Peace, Joe.

What a wonderful artist with a definite style all his own. I especially liked his Tarzan, which I bought and read eagerly in the 70's despite being much more of a superhero fan.

RIP Joe Kubert. You will be missed. My best to your family.

This really sucks sometimes there are people that are so badass that you don't think there ever goning to die.

I REMEMBER BACK IN 8TH GRADE THIS CLOWN THAT THOUGHT HE KNEW ABOUT COMICS SAW ME READING A SGT ROCK BOOK AND SAID THE ART IN THE BOOK LOOKS LIKE CRAP. SO WE ENDED UP FIGHTING AND I CHOKED HIS ASS OUT.

WHAT MADE IT WORSE IS THAT HE WAS READING A BOOK WITH ROB LIEFEILD ART - PUKE IN MY MOUTH

I have dreamed of meeting him and learning from his school for many years. He has done so much for the world of comics with his passion for teaching and great art. May he rest in peace.

I hope one of his talented sons will find the strength to run his school

I was privileged to meet Joe Kubert at the 1997 San Diego Con.
We talked at great length about how comics had changed so much and were sacrificing content for presentation it seemed.
A class act and a remarkable talent.
I will miss him.
His contribution to the medium is legendary.
Like the man himself.

Sgt. Rock was my introduction to the DC side of comic books from preschool and on. This sucks.
