A new entry in the top 50 has taken the top spot, and that is, of course, Marvel's The Avengers/Avengers Assemble..

Here is a little of what SFX had to say about Joss Whedon's superhero team-up flick..

"The whole film resonated with an upbeat tone, which may be one of the main reasons it is so successful. Yes we love the dark and gritty Batman-verse Christopher Nolan has created, but superheroes are meant to be fun. Whilst there are some tears (a moment of silence, please, for Agent Coulson) there’s none of the doom and gloom so prevalent in the media right now. In the ’30s comic book superheroes were a distraction from the grim realities of a restless world and that is exactly what Marvel Avengers Assemble is: a lovingly crafted homage to the colourful and slightly ridiculous printed origins of the superhero."

Somewhat surprisingly, it wasn't The Dark Knight Rises that took the #2 spot, but last year's #1, The Dark Knight. Here are the rest of the top 10..

2) The Dark Knight

3) Iron Man

4)The Dark Knight Rises

5) X-Men: First Class

6) Superman The Movie

7) Thor

8) X-Men 2

9) Batman Begins

10) Kick-Ass

All great movies no doubt, but are you surprised at any of them occupying such high positions? Sound off below, and be sure to head on over to SFX to check out the rest of the top 50.
