RESULTS: What Did You Think Of DREDD?

It hasn't fared very well at the US box office - and that's an understatement - but does that reflect its quality? We asked you guys to give your verdicts on Pete Travis' Dredd, and the results are in..

By Mark "RorMachine" Cassidy - 9/27/2012

As you can see below, a huge majority of you went with the most positive option, and it continues on that way - although the jokey final one "No Rob Schneider, no blockbuster" actually picked up more votes than the previous two. But with a massive 70.98% of the votes, 1,252 of you love Dredd and think it should be doing a hell of a lot better than it is right now..

It's not too late to give the movie a bit of a life injection - if you haven't seen it, do so, and even if you have, convince a buddy or three to and join them! If any movie has some re-watch appeal it's surely the ultra-violent, action packed Dredd. We'll have a box office update over the next couple of days.

Criminal that it's not doing better.
Danbojohnj - 9/27/2012, 6:36 AM
@Boss,I agree.
nowtheresaBATman - 9/27/2012, 6:36 AM
Best CBM of the year eh? wow
NTOCG - 9/27/2012, 6:36 AM
Evidently everybody who saw this in the theater also voted in this poll.
toco89 - 9/27/2012, 6:42 AM
Oh Rob.
ManOfKrypton - 9/27/2012, 6:45 AM
I second that best CBM of the year!

If you love Robocop and 80s Action flicks then you'll like Dredd.
ManOfKrypton - 9/27/2012, 6:45 AM
Okay third it lol
sameoldthing - 9/27/2012, 6:46 AM
Obviously DREDD is based on a comic book character but that actually isn't all that relevant...DREDD is quite simply a badass action movie.

This Judge Dredd is a force to be reckoned with, another great tough as nails role to add to films other tough guys.

People enjoy cop movie shoot em ups & this flick fits the bill with Karl as Judge Dredd & Olivia as Judge Anderson being one of cinemas best "cop" duos in my opinion.

Shameful they may not be able to re-team to showcase further assignments in Mega City One.
DREDD is good,go see it at the theater soon as possible!

marvel72 - 9/27/2012, 6:51 AM
still haven't seen it,i may go wednesday next week if its still showing, its got two showing a day monday-sunday.
ChiefJudge - 9/27/2012, 6:55 AM
This is a must see movie - Great adaptation.
Newtsy - 9/27/2012, 6:55 AM
Not so sure of the "Best CBM of the year!" claim. In all fairness, though, I haven't seen it yet. But I'm gonna go out on a limb here and state that I don't think "Avengers" or "Batman" (even "Spider-man") have anything to fear from "Dredd" throwing its head bucket into the ring.

Just a hunch ...
IIIAdamantiumIII - 9/27/2012, 6:59 AM
Dude I thought it was going to be another meh action flick, and my girl loves action flicks and wanted to see it more than I did. she convinced me to go solely on the fact that its based on a comic. Holy Shit was I surprised at how dope it turned out. The thumping pumping soundtrack really made those action scenes 10x more intense. When the rest of the users on this site can go to R rate films maybe they will understand how shit bats and the rest look compared to Dredd. This is how you make an adaptation! there was no fluff no "love story" no bullshit scenes wasting half the film. PURE AWESOMENESS ! Honestly if you can go see this in theaters GO AND [frick]ING SEE IT!!! do not wait for the dvd/bluray GO SEE IT NOW!!!!!!!!! I'm not one to care about films being "flops" ect but really pay to see this one! of all the CBMs this year this should be the one making a billion at the box office Because it freaking deserves it.
JonathaNisMagnuM - 9/27/2012, 7:01 AM
No Rob Schneider No Blockbuster LMAO
IIIAdamantiumIII - 9/27/2012, 7:02 AM
@ Newtsy - bro you will eat those words , Dredd makes bats/avengers/spidey look like carebears
FOOM - 9/27/2012, 7:07 AM
Makes TDKR look like Legends of the Superheroes. Superb on the big screen in 3D.
PirateOpossum - 9/27/2012, 7:11 AM
This is a film that will have a cult following .. the majority of people out there will not like it. but for any one that reads 2000ad or just loves bloody action anti-hero bad-ass-ism ... this is a WIN.

I will be seeing this several times in the theater, and owning it on 3D Blu-ray

ABLEE337 - 9/27/2012, 7:20 AM
Karl Urban is such a badass in this, makes Batman and The Avengers look like a bunch of pussies.
sameoldthing - 9/27/2012, 7:22 AM
@Newtsy
Not gonna bash on ya pal but DREDD is a movie that's coming from a whole different place than the The Avengers,Amazing Spider-Man & Dark Knight Rises..those heroes don't kill,DREDD will put a foot & a bullet on your ass!

DREDD is an R-rated brutal, action movie not a cotton candy, rainbow & teddy bear film.
GO SEE IT NOW!

ABLEE337 - 9/27/2012, 7:24 AM
@NTOCG

LOL, I think you're right. I saw this on opening Friday night at 8:30pm. There was less than 10 people in the theater.
drfate - 9/27/2012, 7:25 AM
Maybe the idiots who distribute this will realize they can actually re-release it in like a year or two with a proper marketing campaign. Star Wars, Titanic, and Finding Nemo were all re-released. It could work. They really [frick]ed up this release. Awesome movie!
FtLoiterDale - 9/27/2012, 7:25 AM
Movie was DOPE!!
jessepostal - 9/27/2012, 7:25 AM
I didn't think it was that good. Maybe I've seen way too many action shoot em up movies but to me this didn't offer anything different or new. It just ran through the motions of your typical shoot the bad guy movie.
Rothwilder - 9/27/2012, 7:45 AM
Fantastic movie. Wish I would not have seen The Raid before it, but even though they were similar, I think it was a great first movie that warrants a sequel.

They could do so much with the second movie. It was refreshing to see what they accomplished with only a $45 million budget. More money does not equal a better movie. Keep in mind it didn't have 100 million for advertising either.
MoodyMonkey - 9/27/2012, 8:17 AM
The movie Punisher:War Zone or either of those godawful Ghost Rider films should have been! If not the best CBM of the year, certainly the most hard core and one of my personal favourites of all time. Really, really needs a 'second wave' of marketing highlighting the critics responses. Please America, get it seen! you won't regret it!
rea1dea1stee1 - 9/27/2012, 8:31 AM
This movie is the dogs ballax!!! best film this year for me.. how action films should be made! just hope the studio see's they drop the ball with the marketing on this one and move ahead with a second
third3ye - 9/27/2012, 8:32 AM
Vote with your wallets, not with your mouse!
Godzillafart - 9/27/2012, 8:50 AM
[frick] Dredd! I just got the Superfriends box set!
BenRielly - 9/27/2012, 8:52 AM
BEST MOVIE IVE SEEN IN A LONNNG TIME.

This will go down as the most under rated movie of the year mark my words.

the real tragedy will be the fact that studio execs will probably blame its lack luster sales on the violence and R rating...

I took my girlfriend and her brother to see it and they were speechless.

RexDartEskimoSpy - 9/27/2012, 8:53 AM
There's a new Drudge Dredd movie? They should try advertising it.
BenRielly - 9/27/2012, 8:57 AM
To quote my Girl Friend.

"That movie WAS [frick]ing Bad Ass! It was beautifully directed too every scene was pure art work whoever directed this movie did a really really good job"

I myself was surprised at how good it actually was. By the end of it i was at the edge of my seat cheering him on!!!

I was able to get away with that because there were only 4 of us in the whole theater.

gaikinger - 9/27/2012, 9:14 AM
have seen it twice now...once in 2D and once in 3D...i actually preferred it in 2D. Did i like it? i saw it twice what do you think?
gaikinger - 9/27/2012, 9:20 AM
...and yeah...its kinda funny but true that it makes the other CBMs look like Care Bears. Dont get me wrong, i really liked the others that came out but Dredd?...CBM of the year by far.
jimoakley666 - 9/27/2012, 10:02 AM
Sod it. If North America doesn't want to see it, who cares. They got the budged together for the first, it will make it back in Britain, mainland Europe & Asia. let them do the same again for the second. I wouldn't mind the budget not being huge. If it's all set in the cursed earth all they have to do is get out into one of those abandoned mining towns in South Africa or the outskirts of Joberg.

All good. Bring on the sequel.
Godzillafart - 9/27/2012, 10:06 AM
In all seriousness, it looks great to me, but will probably be a rental. My next cinema dollar is going to Looper.
JacksonVegaIII - 9/27/2012, 10:09 AM
C'mon america do your fu.cking bit. tis CBM of the year for christsake
dreddhead123 - 9/27/2012, 10:11 AM
"I was able to get away with that because there were only 4 of us in the whole theater."

teabag - 9/27/2012, 10:13 AM
Oh look its Dreddhead

Photobucket

:P
manumansion - 9/27/2012, 10:15 AM
I really cant work out how such a well recieved film has done so badly. I thought it was best cbm this year but Ive read 2000ad for years so my opinion is probably bias, but ive had friends who dont know my comic habits tell me how good it was. my 20 year old neice posted on facebook last week that her and her friend had seen it and in her words it was 'AWESOME'. shes never read a comic book in her life but took a chance on it and loved it. Deserves so much better.
dreddhead123 - 9/27/2012, 10:18 AM
Yes, everyone loves Dredd 3D! It's the highest rated action film of the year, perhaps of all time. People have raved about it:

INCREDIBLE!

MAGNIFICENT!

AWESOME!

BAD ASS!

I FRICKIN LOVED IT!

Yes, it's the hot ticket in town. And it's so exclusive when you see it you will have the theater all to yourself. Yes, it's so hot no-one else wants to see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:P :P :P :P :P
dreddhead123 - 9/27/2012, 10:22 AM
Rumour has it the box office - as small as it is - is paying for Karl Urban's therapy.

He's in deep shock about how bad the opening gross was! :P
Jaspion - 9/27/2012, 10:25 AM
ok.. you guys convinced me.

So now I have to watch Dredd, Looper and Taken 2.
INSTANTJUSTICE - 9/27/2012, 10:43 AM
I think dreddhead's inanity should convince anyone to see Dredd.
teabag - 9/27/2012, 10:48 AM
Dreddhead@ Im trying to figure out your point

are you saying that the fact the general public interest is non excistent means the overal positive reaction to the film is wrong?

or are you on your jolly pills and find your own disgruntled opinion to be the only one that should be held by everyone?

Shawshank Redemption didnt make a million on its opening weekend

does that make the lack of public interest a reflection on the quality of the movie?

Dead Mans Shoes is one of my fav movies..its considered a critical success and earned awards..yet no one saw it in theatres

I guess everyone involved in those movies should lower their head in shame

God bless you sir

atleast you have conviction and repeat endlessy your misguided point

:)

teabag - 9/27/2012, 10:49 AM
InstantJustice@ He convinces me that his comments would look the same if he just posted this endlessly

Animated Gifs

:)
INSTANTJUSTICE - 9/27/2012, 11:02 AM
There's more entertainment/imagination in that gif.
teabag - 9/27/2012, 11:03 AM
lol cant argue with that :)
Ranger14 - 9/27/2012, 11:40 AM
I thought it was an average film. If it had a better storyline, I might go with it being a really good film, but the cop taking on a rookie partner and taking on the drug lord is a little too redundant for my taste. I also didn't like that it didn't give a better feel for the overall city, just the community high rise complex. I get that they probably planned on incorporating more of the city environment into sequels, but that may have not been the best plan if they don't end up doing a sequel now.
Hardshaw - 9/27/2012, 11:44 AM
Dredd 3D deserves to be seen on the big screen i've seen it twice my wife who is an independent film maker even loved it! If you love John Carpenter films(Escape from NY!) or 70's/80's action/future dystopia you will love this the director and producers pulled it off with a tight script and a meager $45 million budget!! This film is a departure from the usual CBM's of late and is a welcome departure,i have no doubt worldwide sales will lead to a (bigger budget?) sequel. Dredd 3D is the bold risk taker film that will no doubt become a cult movie that sadly you haven't seen.
gaikinger - 9/27/2012, 11:45 AM
@Weeneerevelation....@dreadhea123....@godzillsfart..three of the most persistant trolls I have ever seen post. While feeding the trolls at my own detriment...please avoid feeding the trolls. By the way I have never read a single issue of Judge Dredd but saw the cheesy Stallone piece....that being said you don't have to be a fan to love Dredd
