James Gunn is a director that seems to like working with familiar actors in his movies, so when it was announced that he would be helming Marvel's space adventure Guardians Of The Galaxy, many fans speculated on which of his previous cast members might join the production. Nathan Fillion was first, but dismissed any potential involvement due to his commitments to tv's Castle. But In an interview with Movieweb, Michael Rooker seems far more keen to join the team..as Rocket Raccoon! The site reckons it's pretty clear that the actor has already discussed taking a role in the movie with Gunn, and go on to ask if he's a fan of raccoons, to which he replies - ""I love raccoons. Raccoons are my friends!". Rooker is then asked if he thinks he would be right for the role, and gives the following detailed response..

"Oh, yeah. Most certainly. I know that James Gunn is doing it. He is directing it, and he is re-writing it. He is a very loyal director. He is a very loyal writer, when it comes to working with people that he knows and loves. He really appreciates the efforts that each actor puts into these roles. And I would be very honored and pleased to work with James Gunn again...Whether it will happen or not, I don't know. But he is a dynamite guy, and we have remained friends ever since we worked together on Slither.

I haven't done much research on it at all yet. Because I don't know what is going to happen. I'm really crazy busy with The Walking Dead right now. But you know what? Write this up. Tweet the fuck out of it. If the fans want me as Rocket Raccoon, Marvel will listen to you guys, I think, sometimes...Perhaps I will be lucky and blessed enough to go in there, and go at it with Mr. Gunn again, who knows?"

AshleyWilliams - 10/3/2012, 4:09 PM
I'm up for it.
baldric33 - 10/3/2012, 4:10 PM
I don't see why you all are trying to assign regional accents to a fictional genetically engineered animal from another planet. Doesn't make a lot of sense.
tazmaniak - 10/3/2012, 4:11 PM
When I think of Michael Rooker, I think of racist rednecks. That's basically all he plays.
Jollem - 10/3/2012, 4:12 PM

marvel72 - 10/3/2012, 4:13 PM

I would like to see Andy Serkis in Rocket Raccoon role or Peter Dinklage
MyInnerDork - 10/3/2012, 4:20 PM
No British accent = no thanks. Obviously Rooker doesn't know his oddball Marvel characters that well. Ha.
CaptainObvious - 10/3/2012, 4:22 PM
@marvel72- To be fair, even though the games and show portray Rocket Raccoon with a Cockney accent, he was named after the Beatles song "Rocky Raccoon." So he should actually have a Liverpool accent.
SageMode - 10/3/2012, 4:23 PM
Id say Jamie Bell for Rocket Raccoon

Thevenominside - 10/3/2012, 4:24 PM

TheTyrantVirus - 10/3/2012, 4:27 PM
Mark Sheppard or bust.

I'm sure you've seen him in something, even if you weren't sure his name:

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0791968/

Asterisk - 10/3/2012, 4:29 PM
Michael Rooker or Michael Parks.
D117 - 10/3/2012, 4:31 PM
Meh I think Simon Pegg should voice Rocket Raccoon
Killuminatic - 10/3/2012, 4:34 PM
What would happen if I say Andy Serkis or Jason Statham???
lokibane2012 - 10/3/2012, 4:34 PM
Now, why would anyone campaign to be a part of an inevitable box office bomb?
CCR - 10/3/2012, 4:36 PM
That's some inspired voice-casting imho. He's got my vote! If you haven't seen Henry:Portrait of a Serial Killer(Rooker's first movie), check it out.
marvel72 - 10/3/2012, 4:38 PM
just thought of someone alan ford aka brick top in snatch.

OrganizedChaos - 10/3/2012, 4:40 PM
ehh, I like Michael Rooker, but voicing Rocket Raccoon wouldn't really work.
SageMode - 10/3/2012, 4:42 PM
LOKIBANE2012

Inevitable box office bomb?

Yeah, cause its gonna blow the seats out for theaters from its awesomeness. ;-).
sameoldthing - 10/3/2012, 4:44 PM
Just because a video game uses a British accent does not mean RR needs that in the film.

Rooker has a very cool voice & could do the job fine.

Carne - 10/3/2012, 4:45 PM
Why not go with Greg Ellis?

Killuminatic - 10/3/2012, 4:45 PM
@lokibane sssh... keep it quiet, Marvel's going all out for Phase 2 so let the people decide. Think of this as a spiritual successor to The Avengers but set in the same universe. So it's quite like the equivalent of making a Justice League movie and releasing a sequel after a year or two; which unfortunately hasn't happened.
Triptheorist - 10/3/2012, 4:45 PM
Bob Hoskins for Rocket Racoon! Whoever they pick, I hope he's at least British (or can pull off the accent).
DeadHubris - 10/3/2012, 4:49 PM
John DiMaggio as Rocket Raccoon or GTFO & Bite his Shiny Metal Ass!
SageMode - 10/3/2012, 4:52 PM
IM53

Exactly.
lokibane2012 - 10/3/2012, 4:55 PM
No Studio is infallible. This won't even be MCU's first failure. Hulk failed at the BO. And nope, not keeping my hate to myself, I can say whatever the [frick] I want to.

I think this will bomb.
RAWRG - 10/3/2012, 5:03 PM
I want Simon Pegg to voice Rocket Raccoon
Luigi - 10/3/2012, 5:06 PM
My choices are personally Christian Bale or Jason Shatham.
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 10/3/2012, 5:10 PM
who cares if he has an accent or not and what makes people think he couldnt have an accent? I've seen actors fake accents some better than others.

For those that say the accent should be part because of his background is probably the same people who think the team thats been announced is the original team. in terms of timeline sure i guess but another team beat them dating back to 1969.

i think personally his normal voice would sound good...the guy isn't supposed to sound cute...he's supposed to be a though SOB
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 10/3/2012, 5:11 PM
let me correct my statement...in terms of timeline the original guardians still beat them to the punch back in the 70s but i think you get my point
TheAbomination - 10/3/2012, 5:12 PM
I haven't seen the Walking Dead (I know I'm probably the only one) so I don't know who this guy is. I'll have to watch the show sometime.

And I REFUSE to believe that this film will fail. I have the utmost faith in Marvel Studios and their team of writers and directors. They got this far, people, so I'm pretty sure they know what the f*uck they're doing.
lokibane2012 - 10/3/2012, 5:14 PM
@KamenRiderJ22

Hmmm... Why does Batman care? He should be happy. This film should replace TDKR as the shittiest, most disappointing CBM of the 2010s
