Variety report that Katee Sackhoff is officially the second name to sign on to star in the upcoming female take on Lionsgate's The Expendables. Sackhoff - best known for her brilliant turn as Kara 'Starbuck' Thrace in the Battlestar Galactica reboot - joins the previously announced Gina Carano, who will headline the flick.

"If you spend five minutes with Katee it becomes blatantly obvious that she would pwn (sic) most male action stars," said Producer Adi Shankar about the casting. Sackhoff has a whole heap of projects in the pipeline, including Universal's untitled Chronicles of Riddick sequel, The Haunting in Georgia, Sexy Evil Genius, and Oculus.

She's still a Doll! MMMMM!!! :D
dnno1 - 10/5/2012, 10:14 PM
They've got to have Mila Jovovich and Angelina Jolie in the film for it to be credible.
DCjohnny - 10/5/2012, 10:19 PM
i cant believe that they are actually making this movie...
MrBlueSky - 10/5/2012, 10:33 PM
Starbuck FTW!!
santoanderson - 10/5/2012, 10:42 PM
Wow, I've never seen that pic of her on the bike. Right Click + Save As.
ckal - 10/5/2012, 10:44 PM
Who?

Doesn't matter.

This movie will make less than Dredd.
xcan28 - 10/5/2012, 11:04 PM
Is this really necessary? I love me some ladies and treat women as they should be treated, but come on this is ridiculous.

Lip-Syncer? Pitt's woman? Jojovocop? Female Starbuck? No one is paying to see this... unless you are a 14 year old kid who hasn't discoverd that the internet offers free porn.
NostalgicYouth - 10/5/2012, 11:17 PM
Women. Always gotta show us guys how strong they are
KingEmperor - 10/5/2012, 11:34 PM
I first noticed her as deputy Vic Moretti in Longmire. Those stunners.
MGS - 10/5/2012, 11:34 PM
Seriously? Who? Gina Carano? Katee Sackhoff? Oh, they rank right up there with the Stallones, the Schwarzeneggers, the Van Dammes and their past box office clout.

What is Shanker huffing?
lokibane2012 - 10/5/2012, 11:34 PM
Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton are a REQUIREMENT for this to be taken even remotely seriously
XxComablackxX1937 - 10/5/2012, 11:39 PM
If Megan Fox or Kristen Stewart go anywhere near this i will spend about a good hour imagining how much this will suck an how not surprised i am.

You actually need solid good female actresses to pull this off an even then it's difficult.

Sigourney Weaver and Linda Hamilton i agree are a must.
Jlocklin - 10/5/2012, 11:39 PM
Wow. Are you guys seriously that threatened by strong women? I find it quite appealing personally.
SuperDude001 - 10/5/2012, 11:43 PM
Who is writing it? If it's actually a spin-off with Stallone writing it could be good.
I think though to have some stars more known for action they'd need Milla Jovovich, Michelle Rodriguez, Linda Hamilton, maybe Sigourney Weaver, maybe Sarah Michelle Gellar.
xcan28 - 10/5/2012, 11:48 PM
I have no clue what you mean arrow pointing person, but let's assume that the formula for success for the Expendables was simply a bunch of guys blowing sh!t up. So why not put women in there so we have a whole new group to market to? Of course it would be as successful, if not more so!

I can hear the studio heads thinking now "Wow... Expendables did great BO again. Now if we just add women, we'll have more women attend AND boys who'll pay because there's WOMEN in it!"

This is horribly concieved and will fail. It is a lame cash grab on something that was generated from one man, Sly, who brought along his old 80's-90's action star buddies and and created two successful films out of. There was a certain magic to it because of teh people in it, not based on their sex.

Are you really dieing to see Jolie and Carano reunite? What about the great memories of Jojovocop and Starbuck? No?? That's because they have no history and no personal connection. The only reason that the studio is bringing them in is because they played butchy roles before and feel that they'd be "equals" to Sly and the gang, but females.

Even though both 'Expendables' movies pretty much sucked I got the appeal. There was a personal and almost historical touch to it. Adding random women and trying the same formula will not work and is insulting... but if the Resident Evil franchise is still churning out flicks who am I to judge lol

The only female movie ass kickers in the last decade or more have been Jolie beckinsale and jojovich. Weaver is somewhat credible but Hamilton has one flick under her belt where she wasn't a damsel in distress that i recall. As of right now with Gina and starbuck they have a straight to DVD lineup.
AlienRobotZombieOverlord - 10/6/2012, 12:07 AM
Honestly, she can pwn me anytime. I will watch this and not feel guilty.
loki668 - 10/6/2012, 12:44 AM
Once a month, this team would go on a remorseless killing spree. It could be triggered by something as innocent as an innocuous joke. Perhaps this movie should be called "The Mydol Massacre".

Lord Loki has spoken
Kayo - 10/6/2012, 12:46 AM
i like this, who am i to resist watching those hotties pulling that trigger. If this movie gets made, you already had my money Lionsgate...........bring me some more!
devil - 10/6/2012, 12:59 AM
this will not work it be a sucker punch and d.o.a movie in one shit
TheSoulEater - 10/6/2012, 1:38 AM
EW, I want a hot girl
AnungUnRama - 10/6/2012, 2:01 AM
I've got one word: Bomb, well to words: Hot pic/chick, but bomb anyway.
DukeAcureds - 10/6/2012, 2:32 AM
The idea was good.
But this was not the idea.
BAAAAD choice.
How about Jolie; Jovovich; Yeoh; Rothrock; Sorvino; Zhang Ziyi; Michelle Rodriguez; Summer Glau; Biel; Beckinsale; Zoe Saldana...etc. etc?
Who the [frick] is this chick?! (I know who she is, I'm just saying, she's not a big action star in the fvcking slightest).
DukeAcureds - 10/6/2012, 2:41 AM
xcan28@ They wouldn't need to do a gender specific one if Stallone hadn't been abundantly clear about the "No girls" rule in Expendables 2. This is an expected reaction. All the aforementioned female action stars, above who deserve a role in an all-female Expendables film also deserve a role in a future Expendables sequel, but since there's only one girl allowed on the team, thanks to Stallone's 18th century attitude, we need another franchise.
Chewtoy - 10/6/2012, 5:04 AM
Michelle Yeoh was a bigger action star than most of the cast of Expendables 2. Plus she's a better actor than all of them. I doubt they could get her for this... Or Weaver. Really, none of the notable women are pining for the 80's when they had careers doing these kinds of things.
dnno1 - 10/6/2012, 5:38 AM
Angelina Jolie
Mila Jovovich
Sigorney Weaver
Linda Hamilton
Uma Thrumond
Lucy Liu
Michele Yeoh
Kate Beknsale
Zoe Saldana
Charlize Theron
Michelle Rodriguez
Halle Berry
Carie Anne Moss
Jessica Alba

I know that Weaver and Hamilton are old, but if not most or all on that list (especially Jolie) the film won't sell.
toco89 - 10/6/2012, 5:41 AM
@dukeacureds

"we need another franchise?"

Proper Wonder Woman with Carano no even being a fleeting thought, much less a consideration is closer to the truth.
toco89 - 10/6/2012, 5:43 AM
Selena Gomez and Miley Cyrus or GTFO!!!!!
Mugwamp - 10/6/2012, 5:49 AM
No one watches a movie like this expecting academy award nominations. Hot chicks kicking ass! There are two kinds of males on this site, ones who will absolutely love to see this and gay men.
Wingding - 10/6/2012, 5:51 AM
Dang she fiiine
Wingding - 10/6/2012, 5:53 AM
I'm sorry, but, this is gonna be WAYYY better than any movie loaded with male action stars ;)
lntrn8 - 10/6/2012, 5:58 AM
We will all see this if they battle asian tentacles.
sinsear912 - 10/6/2012, 6:03 AM
is syfy making this??
guywithanopinion - 10/6/2012, 7:45 AM
Due to this signing I'm betting Lucy Lawless will be a part of this as well but does anyone want to see a bunch of old chicks kicking ass? Katee Sackhoff isn't a bad choice given her look and on screen personality, her flaw is being relatively unknown to the masses and if they are trying to imatate the original then they are already slipping. Saying that I think this movie has a chance to work but with bigger names and a PG-13 rating.. There are a lot of woman out there that like action movies (not gore thats why PG-13) and like getting the "Girl Power" feeling from watching females getting the best of men which I'm sure would be worked into the plot.
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 10/6/2012, 7:49 AM
junk

they want to have my interest then don't go with the "new blood". Have a movie with the same premise as the 1st expendables movie...this would mean perhaps the women from the 1st Terminator, Alien, Halloween, etc
Ranger14 - 10/6/2012, 7:59 AM
Michelle Yeoh would own them all.

If Carano is headlining the film, you can't expect any of the top names mentioned to be part of the film. Carano can kick some ass, but she has had one film and can't be considered anything but a B/C film actor. I don't understand trying to pull off a female film like the Expendables and using a relatively unknown and not-so-talented lead actor.
DudeLove721 - 10/6/2012, 8:01 AM
It amuses me that this movie is being held to such a high standard. People are calling for it to feature women who can act, as if The Expendables featured award winning performances. I don't know if you guys realized it but Expendables had Chuck Norris and Jean Claude Van Damme. Last time I checked, those guys wouldn't act their ways out of a paper bag -- a lot of the appeal was in the campyness of brainless action movies and poking fun at the genre. If they're looking at this movie the same way, they need to cast women who starred in action movies from the past (some that are cheesy as hell even) like Shannon Tweed and then to round it out with a few modern names like Maggie Q (Nikita, crazy Asian chick in Live Free Or Die Hard.) It could work if they don't stray too far from the formula. Lucy Liu would be another name I'd throw in the hat along with Uma Thurman (maybe as the villain even.)
timotey - 10/6/2012, 8:31 AM
@NostalgicYouth: "Women. Always gotta show us guys how strong they are."

Yeah, as long as opinions like yours and some others on this web site prevail, they really, really "gotta."
beane2099 - 10/6/2012, 8:55 AM
First off, why does the title of this article call it a spinoff? Second, what made Expendables work is the fact that it's a bunch of (formerly) top action stars all together in one place trading barbs and blowing stuff up. There's a nostalgia/holy crap factor there which kind of makes up for deficiencies in the plot (which both movies certainly had). If you did that with a bunch of unknowns it just be an ensemble piece with a lead like Mission Impossible, or Predator or take your pick. Thus far this seems to be a grouping of slightly known strong female actors. I don't have problem with that, but it sure as hell isn't a female equivalent to the Expendables. Now if you include Linda Hamilton, Sigourney Weaver, Mil Jovovich, Angelina Jolie, and Sharon Stone (she did an action flick or two) then I might change my tune. We already know Michele Rodriguez said hells no, so there's that.
Ranger14 - 10/6/2012, 9:08 AM
DudeLove@ At least Chuck Norris and Jean Claude were major action stars, along with most of the other cast. The same can't be said with the direction they are heading with this one. I definitely wouldn't say Carano is a strong female actor. Strong in fighting skills perhaps. Sackhoff is a decent actor, but hardly a name draw like the they had with The Expendables. If Carano is the headliner, that means they aren't going to have much else for female name draw actors. I think the idea is alright, but they are going about it all wrong by picking unknowns to headline.
AlienRobotZombieOverlord - 10/6/2012, 9:27 AM
Yes, they need to add some of those other names, but honestly those first two are good choices. Come one, peeps, where's your B-movie love?
AlienRobotZombieOverlord - 10/6/2012, 9:28 AM
P.S. - Lucy Liu. Perfect. Where is she now? haven't seen her do anything in a while, but she kicked ass in the day...
DCjohnny - 10/6/2012, 9:34 AM
i have a bad feeling that it might end up like the "bitch slap" movie.... stupid story , sexy hardcore women in action....
iuhgluiblbjjkhkjhkljh - 10/6/2012, 10:02 AM
[frick] that. Just do a bikini beach movie with machine guns.
TheOmegaOne - 10/6/2012, 10:36 AM
Robin Coleman!
get the team some muscle
drjjose - 10/6/2012, 11:38 AM
Nooo they're missing the point of expendables is a group of old action stars kicking ass, not hot chicks that haven't pass years doing movies. I want Lucy lawless, sigourney weaver, Jolie, demi more...
bhorwith22 - 10/6/2012, 11:51 AM
They should at least have Sigourney Weaver, Uma Thurman, Linda Hamilton, and Angelina Jolie. Right now, it just seems like they are trying to make a cheap cash-in.
SoulAllFlush - 10/6/2012, 12:33 PM
Okay, this is a very forced concept - but who knows,if they go through with it then it might be good

Anyway, Angelina Jolie, Jamie Lee Curtis, Sigourney Weaver, Michelle Rodriguez, Summer Glau, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Lucy Lawless are all musts, surely?

Scarlett Johanssen and Jennifer Garner probably both strong contenders too.

This could work! ... or flop so hard.
NostalgicYouth - 10/6/2012, 12:37 PM
@ timotey
Oh yeah I'm the sexist, but when movies with bad female actors, in a big action movie, trying to promote girl power yeah of coarse I'm going to have something sexist to say.

P.s. mainly Resident Evil franchise
