RUMOR: Armie Hammer On WB's Radar To Play Batman In JUSTICE LEAGUE

Could Hammer get another shot at playing the Caped Crusader after coming so close in George Miller's defunct 'Justice League: Mortal'? According to Moviehole, the Lone Ranger himself might just be in with a chance. Read on for details..

Any CBMer worth their salt knows that Armie Hammer came very close to donning the cape and cowl in Warner Bros.' ill fated Justice League movie that never saw the light of day. The actor has expressed his disappointment in a number of interviews, explaining that they were only days from shooting when the roof caved in on the project. Well, he might just get another go at it. According to Moviehole's sources, WB have put Hammer at the "top of their list" to take over the role from Christian Bale in their planned Justice League movie..

"Hearing, from a very good source, today that Hammer, who is now a hot commodity after such flicks as “The Social Network” and “Mirror Mirror”, not to mention his upcoming lead role in “The Lone Ranger”, is ”back on WB’s radar” for the part of Batman. Not for a solo flick, but for the ensemble “Justice League” movie [again]."

The site go on to say that Hammer may just be wanted for the studio's "JL Universe", meaning that there could also be another Batman cast for any future solo movies - not something that anyone hoping for a 'DC Cinematic Universe' akin to what Marvel Studios have will want to hear. They also say that Joseph Gordon Levitt will definitely not be returning as Batman, Nightwing, Robin or any other character spun off from Christopher Nolan's trilogy - that's over and done with. Of course - as much as I trust Moviehole - we'll have to take all of this as rumor for now. However, the casting would make sense - Hammer is a much bigger star than he was a few years ago, and WB know he has already familiarized himself with the character, and by all accounts looks pretty snazzy in a Bat-suit. I wouldn't be surprised if he is indeed a top contender, but I also wouldn't expect any confirmation or denials one way or the other for quite a while. We will update if anything pops up of course.

He looks too pretty to be batman
rockerdude22 - 10/8/2012, 6:40 PM
Eh, I don't know. He'd make a better Aquaman, I think. This probably ain't happening, anyway.
Shua - 10/8/2012, 6:47 PM
Sounds great to me! I'm desperate for a Batman without the gravely "gargling on marbles" sound ;) And I really hope they show his detective skills for once. The rumor that the next Bat-franchise would be based on Arkham City got me very excited. I'd love to see Nightwing and the other Robins on screen.
Knightrider - 10/8/2012, 6:48 PM
Well, I won't ever say if they are right or wrong for a wrong -- How many times do we need proving wrong until we learn to see the final product-- however, I will take this rumour with a pinch of salt.

It wouldn't surprise me if true, because of his link to a JL project before.

Maybe the script that is being worked on now is a rewrite of the Mortal script, who knows?

If I had to give an opinion I actually think he can pull off a Bruce Wayne/Batman, but it all comes down to the approach the studio goes for and if he is right for that, which is a whole different topic of conversation.

for the role*
Knightrider - 10/8/2012, 6:49 PM

Khan - 10/8/2012, 6:52 PM

marvel72 - 10/8/2012, 6:54 PM
not a bad choice but this will probaby be debunked within 24 hours.
scrzy - 10/8/2012, 7:05 PM
Yes, yes, yes, yes. Or Michael C. Hall.
Aeyan - 10/8/2012, 7:08 PM
He's looks like a BEEEYOTCH!!! He'll never get the part!
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 10/8/2012, 7:08 PM
LOL! I will not dream, think, speak or say anything about JUSTIC LEAGUE until I see an official Logo. And that won't happen for YEARS!
marvel72 - 10/8/2012, 7:08 PM
@ grif

he was in mirror mirror,j.edgar & the social network.
novaprime - 10/8/2012, 7:08 PM
He would have been an Amazing Captain America
RunDTC - 10/8/2012, 7:09 PM
he's a decent actor but I don't want him as Batman.
Shua - 10/8/2012, 7:10 PM
@Spidey23 I completely agree. The Nolan movies were good, but it just wasn't anything like the Batman comics... with the exception of Joker and Two-Face, they were wonderful.
comics2film - 10/8/2012, 7:11 PM
As long as Batman is smart and not some dumbed down Nolan character. I'll buy it that this guy can be batman.
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 10/8/2012, 7:11 PM
I hate WB for not rebooting Batman BEFORE JL.
cmay13 - 10/8/2012, 7:11 PM
Whenever I watch him I can't help but think he's gay. It's just his demeanor or something. Just pay bale 20 million or something.
whoa123 - 10/8/2012, 7:14 PM
No, he doesn't have the angst to play Bats. Sam witwer for Batman!
iuhgluiblbjjkhkjhkljh - 10/8/2012, 7:14 PM
I'm not against this. He could pull off a younger version like in the Nolanverse. At least we're getting semi-news about this movie.
AmericanPsychoWolf - 10/8/2012, 7:15 PM
CSI: Gotham? Hows the Amazing Hipster coming out for ya?
TheOmegaOne - 10/8/2012, 7:20 PM
I would prefer him as Aquaman
valeriesghost - 10/8/2012, 7:22 PM
Hmm, he's a good actor but I just don't see him as batman. To pretty. Great Aqua Man, but if your gonna put him in the same rOom with a bunch of superpowered people he needs to look intimidating instead of a pretty boy in a costume. Maybe he'll show me something in the line ranger that will change my mind. I'm just happy to hear that the QB hasn't forgotten about the JL
DioFoRio - 10/8/2012, 7:23 PM
karl urban for bats
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 10/8/2012, 7:23 PM
I want to see Armie Hammer play a superhero role. Also,I would like to see Joel Kinnaman(The New Robocop) play a superhero too.
darkmetal - 10/8/2012, 7:23 PM
If you want to know who WB will cast in Studio Controlled DC movies, just look at all of the 90's Batfilms from Burton+Schumacher and Catwoman and Green Lantern.
What you see is they only cast actors who are POPULAR at the time.
So if you thumb through some list of hottest current actors you will find 99% of the cast.
They like to add at least 1 Oscar winner to each cast or at least 1 respected veteran.

Then you get a script comprised of a meaningless plot and filled with loads of humor attempts and one liners.
The film is then carefully injected with many vehicles and costume changes for the toys and then you have a corporate WB CBM.

And you get yet another WB film in the tradition of Batman 1990's, Catwoman and Green Lantern.

What's really sad is there's people who buy their garbage. Even today we see people swear that the 90's Batfilms 1-4 were good. So sad!
AmericanPsychoWolf - 10/8/2012, 7:24 PM
I heard Jake Gyllenhaal is alo on WB's radar to play Batman.
Shua - 10/8/2012, 7:26 PM
@AmericanPsycho I don't think he was bashing the Batman movies (could be wrong on that). I read both Batman comics and Spidey, and I just feel like Batman hasn't gotten the correct treatment yet. When I watched The Amazing Spider-Man I felt like I was watching a comic on the big screen (at least the last 2 acts anyway).

I love Bats as a character and I really want to see him get the movie he deserves. He is so much more than a vigilante, in fact he's way more effective against thugs and villains than he was ever shown in the Nolan movies. The Arkham games get his feeling right and I'd love to see that in a movie. Not to be rude, but I feel like the previous Bat's movies have downscaled the action from the comics.
Zoidberg115 - 10/8/2012, 7:26 PM
3-4 days later.DEBUNKED:Armie Hammer Not On WB's Radar To Play Batman In JUSTICE LEAGUE.
Grayson7954 - 10/8/2012, 7:28 PM
[frick] THAT. anybody who knows remotely anything about the definition of the character of BATMAN knows this guy is no way in hell the right guy to take over. no no no. just no.
valeriesghost - 10/8/2012, 7:29 PM
Batman needs to look like he doesn't care who the [frick] you are or what the [frick] you can do, he's gonna [frick] your shit up. And I just don't get that from Hammer.
superotherside - 10/8/2012, 7:32 PM
I haven't really seen him in anything, so I'm not judging. Still I'd personally like someone like Scott Adkins get the role, although he may be too old as he's 10 years older than Hammer.
StuckInPanels - 10/8/2012, 7:32 PM
I could see that
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 10/8/2012, 7:33 PM
Maybe the new Batman reboot will be more true to the comics but never be as emotional and inspirational as Nolan's.
GUNGRAVE1 - 10/8/2012, 7:33 PM
No to this actor for bats he could play flash.
QuanZen - 10/8/2012, 7:37 PM
@Froggy that's a pretty good line up.
Shua - 10/8/2012, 7:38 PM
@Froggy perfection my friend. Best fan casting I've ever seen.
SageMode - 10/8/2012, 7:39 PM
These JL rumors are hilarious.
SuspenseSmith - 10/8/2012, 7:40 PM
Not seeing it.
ArtisticErotic - 10/8/2012, 7:40 PM
Debunked by the end of the week.

rubbish78 - 10/8/2012, 7:43 PM
I'm not sure how I feel about this...
Greenlantern1417 - 10/8/2012, 7:46 PM
I truly believe that Batman should be a lot older than everyone else in The Justice League. Save for maybe Manhunter.
JDUKE25 - 10/8/2012, 7:46 PM
I can't see him as Batman.
Spidey31 - 10/8/2012, 7:48 PM
Give that boy some hair dye and BAM we've got an aquaman, hire Rian Johnson to direct JL and BAM we have a CBM
AnditsOn1 - 10/8/2012, 7:48 PM
He looks like a pretty happy guy. batman needs to put on the poop face all the time (even when he's Bruce Wayne, now, this is a joke...I'm a batman hater here!)
Shua - 10/8/2012, 7:50 PM
2 things, @Froggy have you put that into a formal article? because you should. Great job with all the pictures and video clips to further your point btw.

@MrEko I completely agree with your reasons for liking Hammer. There should be a shock moment when someone sees Batman take off his mask, thats how it is in the comics.

I really wish DC would just go for the full Cinematic Universe with inter-connected films and characters played by the same actors. It's working wonders for Marvel, and Hammer could be the guy that is contracted to play Bruce for years and years... if only ;)
TheAbomination - 10/8/2012, 7:50 PM
Well whatever then. I don't even care anymore. Get Carrot Top to play the bat.
valeriesghost - 10/8/2012, 7:50 PM
Mr Eko, I get it, armies is a great actor, but he just looks a little to frat boy to me to pull off a character that has gone through what Bruce has. To young I think. I dOnt have a better choice, the guy is a good actor, I guess I'm just going by the assumption and hope that this will be an established bats that has been through some shit. I guess I was just hoping for a little gruffer and manly-er. To me that's what bale did well, just barely keeping his true self below the surface, even when he was playing the playboy role. I guess I'm just getting a Clooney feel off of this choice. He was the best looking Wayne by far and a great actor, but a bad Batman :)
