No purple hair for Daario? Whatever...I'm cool with it.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 6:59 AM
Daario.

No...just no.
RorMachine - 11/1/2012, 7:06 AM
Yeah not liking Daario's look..at all.
GetsugaTensho22 - 11/1/2012, 7:12 AM
Is that....TOM WELLING? 0_o
Yea, Daario is SUPPOSED to look silly and flamboyant, with his wild blue hair and Sword hilts that are shaped like whores. It's what gets his enemies to underestimate him. His goofy looks is actually makes his character. Here he just looks like a generic scarred warrior type.
BruceWayneNewton - 11/1/2012, 7:13 AM
Not how I imagined Daario. Hopefully he will stay true to Daario's personality considering he is definitely a fan favorite.
Theunderdog - 11/1/2012, 7:19 AM
That not how Daario supposed to look a like I hope they get the personality right at least. Dany looks good
rebellion - 11/1/2012, 7:23 AM
i love the changes. that look from the books could never work imo. and i dislike him already, so it's all good.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 7:33 AM
As soon as they cast the guy who is playing Daario...I knew we weren't getting a good Daario.

This look is just....
ckal - 11/1/2012, 7:33 AM
Disrespectful to the source material.
MrLoki - 11/1/2012, 7:36 AM
Doesn't look like Daario at all.
I like the actor, he's fine, but the changes are still too big.
rebellion - 11/1/2012, 7:45 AM
@ckal you think that an average viewer would have no problems with dany falling for the guy with golden teeth, blue hair and trident beard? LOL. clearly you have no idea what it takes to make a good tv show and a decent adaptation at the same time.
RorMachine - 11/1/2012, 7:48 AM
Rebellion, disagree on that..it's Daario's unusual look that attracts Dany..that and his bravery and good looks, which would still be evident if they stuck a beard and a gold tooth on the guy!
rebellion - 11/1/2012, 7:56 AM
yeah, it works in the book. you can read what she's thinking and how he reminds her of drogo.. but on the screen.. i don't think so. it's okay if some people dislike it but i think it's ignorant as [frick] to say it's disrespectful to the grrm and the books. if that was true, every single adaptation ever made could be called a bastardization of the source material.
GetsugaTensho22 - 11/1/2012, 8:03 AM
^^ Read my post again. This isn't another case of fanboys nitpicking, it's an actual case of changing a major aspect of the character. It's like not giving the Joker a smile, or green hair, or white skin. So yea, his blue hair, gold teeth and flamboyant attitude IS what's needed.
Ranger14 - 11/1/2012, 8:10 AM
So... we now have the Bane of Game of Thrones. :-P He's one character, so I will live with it, as long as they get the personality right. Not sure how from that photo we can establish whether he has gold teeth or not, being we can't see his teeth. ;-)
ckal - 11/1/2012, 8:10 AM
rebellion-

What are you trying to attack me for? You know what it takes to make good TV? That's interesting.

As Ror clearly pointed out to you, you have entirely missed the reason why Dany is attracted to Daario. In addition to his wild behavior and bravery, his looks play a big (possibly the biggest part). It is because he is different, exotic to her.

This is real life, people are often attracted to people who are different than they are, and many fans of the show can relate to this. That fact that entirely miss both of these points makes you look a bit ignorant, and shows you have a disillusioned view of the 'average viewer' and people in general.
damntree - 11/1/2012, 8:11 AM
Or is it just fantasy?
ckal - 11/1/2012, 8:13 AM
bravery/dominant masculinity
rebellion - 11/1/2012, 8:15 AM
oh please. if he can act cocky and arrogant, he's fine. and this is daario we're talking about. you do realize he's not that important anyways? he's just a mercenary dany falls for and that's it. that's his purpose. i could care less about what he looks like.
whoelsebutkevin - 11/1/2012, 8:18 AM
Isn't GRRM writing all the episodes or has heavy presence on them. Everything has his approval so I say go with it.

You must understand there is a line between Books and Movie/Show adaptions there will always be a difference for the better of material.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 8:25 AM
I realize at least as much or more than you do about the books so you don't need to pose this question to me.

It's nice that you could care less, but what is a legitimate reason to radically change a (not important in your words) character's looks?

Side note: How did you feel about the show's/actor's portrayal of Renly?
ckal - 11/1/2012, 8:27 AM
whoelsebutkevin-

Actually, no. GRRM has stated many times in interviews that he has no say as to what happens on the show. Benioff and Weiss will consult him periodically, but GRRM says that all the decisions are theirs, he has no say as to how it will go.

GRRM writes one episode a season, which is what he has said is about the extent of his direct involvement.

For me, it's just another example of B&W making some mis steps with characters and showing they don't actually fully understand character decisions and the impact they have on the story lines.

Season 2 was an absolute disaster for several characters.

I loved season 1, it was fantastic. Season 2 was a notiecable drop in quality, and many people I know who have not read the books have the same opinion. Changes were made that unnecessary, for no reason, and they resulted in a drop in quality in story telling and character development.

Having said that, I know it is extremely difficult to bring this material to the screen. Not everything will be the same of course, and certain things need to be chagned for a different medium. This is something I completely uderstand, but there are many things that have been changed that didn't need to be, which turned out to be a negative for the show.

Probably the biggest example of this from season 2 was the change to Cat's storyline where she releases Jaime. Terrible nonsensical stuff really, and for this all they had to do was change 2 scenes.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 8:32 AM
derezzed-

So since I've provided an actual conversation piece, maybe you could try the same. Have you read the books or are you just a fan of the show? That would explain some things.
RorMachine - 11/1/2012, 8:34 AM
As long as they don't change the actual character I won't mind too much, certainly don't see it as "disrespectful", I do however see it as unnecessary. What's the point in not having him look a little more like his description in the books?. Maybe they have their reasons of course.
rebellion - 11/1/2012, 8:35 AM
@ckal maybe the reason is that the actor could nail the character but just didn't look good with the beard and blue hair?
and about renly. he didn't look like renly, but obviously i don't care much about the looks of less impportant characters. it's his acting that matters and it was atrocious.
Carne - 11/1/2012, 8:41 AM
I'm glad they ditched the blue hair. Would have looked horribly silly on screen, especially as the rest of the characters have realistic looks.

What matters is how the actor portrays Daario, and he already has a "Punch me" face, so I think this will work out just fine.

Seriously, people getting so angry over the lack of blue hair :/
ckal - 11/1/2012, 8:48 AM
rebellion-

I'm sure that's the reason they cast Ed Skrein. They did end up doing Jaqen H'ghar justice with his hair though, so why the difference here? You could say Jaqen's hair has little importance just like Daario's hair. They toned it down which is all good, so why not tone down Daario but keep some of his essentials? He does even have a beard. I'd love to hear their decision to have Daario lose the beard.

About Renly: I agree, I think they made a huge mistake casting Genthin (IIRC) for Renly. He didn't have the look at all, but show Renly acted NOTHING like book Renly. Book Renly was actually a fun character for his brief moments in the books, but on the show he is a whiny scrawny guy with none ofthe personality that made him likeable in the books.

It's not all the actors fault though, as the writing for Renly was pretty atrocious. I think Renly is the shows worst executed character so far, and they paid for it in season 2. They attempted to give him a deeper story by massively increasing the homosexual love story line, but that was to no benefit. That he was gay, was only vaguely hinted at once or twice in the books as well.

I also thought in season 1 that they cast the completely wrong actor to play Loras as well, but he has a much stronger screen prescence in season 2.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 8:49 AM
he doesn't even have a beard*
Carne - 11/1/2012, 8:52 AM
The reason he doesn't have a beard is because they obviously don't want to hide his face.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 9:00 AM
carne-

Why? He's not a famous actor that would draw in additional viewers based on his face alone.
rebellion - 11/1/2012, 9:00 AM
idk, maybe they couldn't afford to ruin a wig. those can be really expensive.. maybe they had trouble making it look subtle..who knows..
about loras.. yeah, they ruined him too. renly/loras was poorly executed and i blame the actors. sure, they were poorly written but their expressions were painful to watch and whenever they spoke, it sounded so unauthentic, like they are reading a teleprompter.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 9:25 AM
Which is surprising, because virtually the rest of the entire cast and writing for the characters were so good (at least in season 1).
jimpinto24 - 11/1/2012, 9:40 AM
Love this show!
whoelsebutkevin - 11/1/2012, 9:42 AM
@Ckal

Actually I thought they were spot on with with Jaqen H'ghar look well perhaps not spot on but good enough. Unless there is a better description because i'm actually in the middle of reading A Clash of Kings right now it reads "His Hair was red on one side and grey on the other, All matted and filthy from travels." Page 31. Like I said I have not gotten that far to where he is at Harrenhal so his image could be adjusted. Just saying ya'll are knit picking for no reason, if it works then it works.
Niem8211 - 11/1/2012, 9:47 AM
I’m ok with no blue hair, but no beard... He looks like he is 10... I like the changes they have done thus far so let’s rock and roll... Book 3 is the best and I am ready for the crazy ass season 3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sanderman - 11/1/2012, 9:54 AM
it's just one picture guys. chill out and wait until more official stuff comes out
GetsugaTensho22 - 11/1/2012, 9:56 AM
Let me put it this way.
He looks like a Lannister, instead of a rouge-ish Mercenary Leader. Let that sink in, people.
damntree - 11/1/2012, 10:23 AM
Doesn't matter.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 10:25 AM
whoelsebutkevin-

I thought Jaqen looked great. My point was if they can faithfully adapt a man with long half white half red hair, why can't they faithfully adapt a man with blue hair and a beard.

mreko-

The seasons are actually 10 episodes, which makes it incredibly tough to tell some of the storylines. Good thing ASOS is split into 2 seasons as ACOK really suffered from only 10 episodes IMO.
bropous - 11/1/2012, 10:27 AM
And don't forget, they turned Renly into a faggot and the Knight of Flowers into a fluff boy.

It's HBO. I gave up LONG ago getting a decent treatment of Game of Thrones. SO many unnecessary changes. The only real good thing to come out of it was Tyrion.

SPOLER ALERT: Did they get to the Red Wedding yet? I can just imagine how they handle Cersei's stroll from the temple back to the castle...or Tyrion's "discussion" with his pop on the privy.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 11:23 AM
bropous-

RW will likely be towards the end of this upcoming season 3 in 2013. Tyrion's discussion will likely be at the end of season 4 (2014), and Cersei's stroll is end of book 5 so that won't be until season 6 at earliest I imagine.

mreko-

I....completely agree, as does every other ASOIAF fan in the world I believe. Ros is such a useless character. She is used solely for exposition and some poorly conceived side plots and it is a shame to watch.

I think the Dany and Jon Snow storylines both got ruined last season. They did not do much in the book until the last 1/3 or 1/4 so there wasn't a lot of content for them, but the showrunners tried to beef up their roles because they are popular characters. It's a shame that they did them such a disservice, especially Jon Snow's storyline.

They didn't have to change one thing at all, but once Jon Snow/Halfhand/the other guys went out into the mountains everything got so ridiculous. They tried to 'enhance' the Ygritte/Jon storyline, but all they did was force it and make it unbearable to watch them walk aroudn for 2 episodes straight doing nothing. It happens far more naturally and believably in the book between the two. And Halfhand's whole reason for Jon killing him was completely glossed over and missed in the show. Once again, zero changes needed to be made here, but for adaptation's sake, things were changed and came out poorly.

Even with Robb, they tried to beef up his role as well because fans like him, only to make unecessary changes and additions, which resulted in deluding his storyline as well.

I don't even want to start on how much they ruined Cat's motivation to release Jaime...
ckal - 11/1/2012, 11:26 AM
That turned into a rant. Sorry man. Just looking back at it again makes me frustrated.
whoelsebutkevin - 11/1/2012, 11:47 AM
@Ckal
My Bad, i'm misinterpreted what you were saying.
ckal - 11/1/2012, 11:49 AM
All good man.
dollstix - 11/1/2012, 11:57 AM
Just like to say him having blue hair wouldn't necessarily look out of place. As GRRM has stated a lot of GOT is based on British history and if you think Braveheart and the blue woad the Celts used in battle, it would actually make sense.
