TASM 2: Marc Webb Comments On Jamie Foxx/Electro Casting

Although it seems to be a sure thing, we are still not certain that the villain role of Electro in the Amazing Spider-Man sequel is Foxx's. Director Marc Webb doesn't exactly confirm it, but praises the actor and calls him "electrifying"..

When Jamie Fox posted that he had dressed as Spider-Man villain Electro on his Twitter last night, nobody seemed to pay much attention. But today when Variety revealed that the Django Unchained actor was in talks to play the character in the sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man, that was a different story! Although thsi hasn't been offcially confirmed, and is definitely an outside the box casting choice, nobody should have any reason to doubt Variety's sources. That being said, something official from someone actually involved in the production would be nice - how about director Marc Webb?



While speaking to Fandango about the upcoming Blu-ray and DVD release of TASM, Webb was quizzed about the casting. Here is an excerpt from their report..

“What?!” Webb replied when I asked him about the casting news. The director made it clear he was feigning ignorance, and followed up with a very political (yet calculatedly non-committal) answer.

“Look, Jamie Foxx is a genius actor, and I think he’s electrifying. That’s my standard quote right now,” Webb told me, with a laugh. “But I think he’s a brilliant actor. From his work back in In Living Color to Ray to what he did in Ali, he’s just one of the great character actors of our generation.”

Foxx is a great actor to bad he was never cast as War Machine him and RDJ would of been epic.

but this rumor casting does sound funny every black super powered person have electric powers i.e. Static and Black Lightning

I didn't know Black Lightning was a Spiderman villain... haha. On a side note I think he could do a good job, maybe bring a little depth to the character instead of being very 2 dimensional in the comics.

Never been a big fan of electro. I find that his stories are all generally the same. Hell, I bet you the story will end in a power plant.

Jamie Foxx is a good actor, but not right for the role as Elektro! That would be bad casting! Only time will tell with TASM2?

Please don't go with the Ultimate look...... It sucks.

Hopefully there will be two villains. Electro as the main antagonist for the whole movie will not hold my interest. There's gotta be someone else involved, it can't just be electricity electricity electricity. Cool for at first sure, but it will get old after a while.


They have to introduce MJ, JJ and Harry for sure this time.

They will be going with a new look and probably new origin for Electro of course.
Because be honest, TASM version of Electro is just laughable.
His costume for instance, woud look terrible in a live action setting.
Of course people will still whine about them changinging his look anyway, because there always has to be something to whine about.
Second, his origin. Getting struck by lightning while climbing a telephone pole might have been passable back in the early 60s, but in the 2010s that's just straight up lame.
So basically people, be prepared for a new look and a new origin, possibly leaning a little more towards the Ultimate comics (origin wise, maybe not the character itself), because it makes the most sense in the movie universe.

So this is no longer a rumor, just hope he is not the main villain, I think he doesn't have potential for that, well, maybe, but he is not a "smart villain" like Dr.Octopus or Kraven, Electro is more muscles like Sandman and Rhino. About the actor, first thing in my head was "WHAT THE [frick]?", but now, thinking better, maybe is a good choice, but I can't imagine Jamie Foxx in a yellow and green suit, because of this I think that he will look like more the Ultimate version.

The clip seemed more like MYSTERIO them Electro and it was an old white man not Mr. Fox so it doesn't add up unless both villains come out but I'm not very fond of him playing Electro actually not even in the series period!

The Amazing Spider-Man's facebook page also posted a screenshot of Jamie's tweet about Electro with a cryptic caption about it being an interesting costume choice. Seems like they're really enjoying teasing everyone at the moment. Not sure if it's the official facebook page, but it seems like it is.

Just downloaded TASM on iTunes and rewatched it. Forgot how great it really was! I mean, it had its issues, but overall, it was really great. Can't wait to see what Webb and Garfield have next.

I won't watch another live-acton Spider-Man anything unless it's under the shingle of Marvel Studios... I suggest REAL FANS do the same.

I'm not a racist but I am so tired of Hollywood changing the race of characters! It's bad enough that they change origins, Kingpin was white not black, Catwoman (granted there was a black one in one of the tv movies) but in the comic she is white and in the movie shes black (and that movie sucked), and now they want to make Electro black. WHY????? Stop changing what is Hollywood. If it works don't change it!!!

Just please make a better film than TASM. It was pretty weak. Better than Spider-Man 3? Sure but that's not saying a lot.

I think Electro's race is irrelevant. It's only bad if the race is relevant to the character, some people get shaped by their race, some don't

The big problem I have with the whole race changing thing is they are only changing white characters to black characters. People would be screaming loudly if Black Panther or Falcon were replaced with white actors. It's not a race thing and I am not racist, but if you really want an actor to play a role and he is black then have him play a pre-existing black character or create a new one for that actor.

I personally think foxx is wrong for the role he's a great actor but he's too old the dudes 44, and electro can't carry a whole film, i wanna see another villain like mysterio or kraven.

Electro is such a bum character why would u debate a great actor like Jamie Foxx playing him because he is black.Electro is a bum as a Spidey villain people should be honored honestly.Foxx delivers...at the end of the day thats all that matters
