Is Indie Director Colin Trevorrow A Candidate To Helm STAR WARS VII?

We can expect a LOT of these rumors over the next while, but apparently indie director Colin Trevorrow is definitely on Disney's radar to helm their new Star Wars movie.



Celeb Buzz say their sources have confirmed that Trevorrow "is indeed on the list of potential names that could shepherd a new trilogy of films". The site report that George Lucas actually met with the director several months ago about the project, but even after Disney purchased Lucasfilm on October 30th, he is still on the shortlist. Of course we can't confirm this, and have no idea how reliable Celeb Buzz's sources are, but the story has been picked up by some more reputable sites - so it's worth reporting as a solid rumor for now at least.

Trevorrow would certainly be an "outside the box" choice, having only directed a documentary (Reality Show), a tv movie (Gary: Under Crisis) and the Sundance breakout hit Safety Not Guaranteed - a quirky time-travel comedy. If the new Star Wars movie did wind up being helmed by Trevorrow, how would you guys feel about it?

I'd say give him a chance! I personally think it would be better for a fresh director to take on something like this than some of the bigger names people usually come up with!

Also, I'm doing shots right now for the hell of it. Anyone want in on this?

I sat through Red Tails, and that film was directed by a man George Lucas personally chose because he was a "fantastic" director, too. Red Tails sucked... royal... ass.

Don't let George pick the director.

@Noomis I agree. Episode III is as good and fits with the OT.

Personally want a different vibe for new trilogy. Vaughn, Favreau or Speilberg are my choice.

@thatdylhooper: dude i would take ep 2 or 3 over ROTJ anyday of the week lol i love jedi, grew up with it, but that movie is so weak next to new hope or empire. it is of prequel calibre lol and i don't mind the prequels. so take that as you will

Episode 3 is DEFINITELY as good as the originals.

I would argue its better than ROTJ.

I HATED the ewok/han/leia moments. The Vader/Emperor/Luke stuff was golden but every cut made me want to kill myself

@bazinga85: ep 2 had christopher lee with a lightsaber lol thats why i dig it. ep 3 was fun. ROTJ is just as flawed as those two movies. jabba's palce was sweet but then the movie gets muddled and only reason to continue to watch is lando in falcon and luke vs vader pt 2. to each thier own. i just rather watch anakin's story (shifty as it can be) than ewoks vs storm troopers, another deathstar, dagobah as an exercise in exposition, mains dying without any emotional context, that jub jub song, and han and chewie no longer acting like the badasses we remember.

I hear good things about Safety Not Guaranteed - there's a part of me that feels that this Colin Trevorrow fellow would provide a lot of "fan service" (just based off his appearance and his interviews about Sundance Film Festival). Most importantly: Matthew Vaughn doesn't really excite me.

no, star wars deserves someone tried and tested. if they give this guy episode 7, and he ain't up to the challenge, he'll sink the entire franchise.

Heard about good things about the movie, and I'm also interested in the plot of the movie itself. I'll be trying to find a way to watch it for myself, but this is interesting. Plus, I simply love new talents rather than the common picks.

I've been saying that I don't see those big-named fanboy-friendly directors getting the job.
