CHRONICLE'S Dane Dehaan Up For Harry Osborn Role In THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN Sequel

According to THR, the young actor - most recently seen in Lawless - is one of three names being "bandied about" to star as Peter Parker's (Andrew Garfield) best friend in Marc Webb's sequel. Who are the others? You'll have to click on to find out..

In an article just published over at THR, the site reveal some names testing for a various supporting roles in some upcoming movies. But the one that stands out is that of Harry Osborn, the character previously played by James Franco in Sam Raimi's trilogy. THR report that the role was originally to be filled by a "bigger athletic actor", but has now been reconfigured and someone a little more "dark and edgy" is being sought after. They reckon Brady Corbet (Melancholia), Dane Dehaan (Chronicle) and Alden Ehrenreich (the upcoming Beautiful Creatures) are the lads that are vying for the role, but that more names may enter the mix as the "character is evolving".

This kid is a DWEEB. He fit the role for Chronicle perfectly, but for Harry Osborn? Not at all, James Franco will never get beat

After seeing chronicle i thought he actually would've made a better peter parker than garfield did he looked and acted like a real outsider, Which is something tasm failed to do or even make believable.

Franco's brother isn't the right kind of actor, he's more of a comedy actor than an emotional one (and Harry needs emotion, not comedy). Plus, Franco looked nothing like comic book Harry, so how his very similar looking brother fits the character in your opinions is beyond me. That's not to say that I think looks are a huge part of the character, because they aren't too important, but I'm simply explaining why you can't use that particular actor's looks as a reason to cast him.

Dane Dehaan would be a great choice, although I kind of wanted Jamie Bell for the role - he's a good quality actor and was up for the role of Peter, and seems far better suited to Harry.

But Harry is suppose to be better looking than Pete. Get Dave Franco, matches him perfectly, could even outshine his brother.

I think Dehaan would be great as harry, since harry is suppose to be an outcast as well he's perfect.

I hope they don't introduce him as just norman's evil lackey son though.

I mean Bell is better suited to play Harry than Peter, not that he's better suited for the role than Dehaan is.

@KamenRiderJ22 James Franco has acting chops. Just watch 127 Hours. He carries the entire film by himself; every other character is pretty much a named extra if I remember correctly. Fantastic movie, proves that Franco acts well under great direction (I don't really think Raimi's known for pulling out great performances from his actors, although he does have a fun visual flair and is a good storyteller).

I thought he'd be Human Torch. Oh well, this gig sounds better for him. I was about to watch a Redbox Blu-ray of The Amazing Spider-Man yesterday — but my Blu-ray player's acting up.

Anyone who wants the brother of the guy who played him in the previous trilogy needs to get their heads tested! The dude looks and acts JUST like him, same sleepy facial expressions and everything. Thsi is a REBOOT. My God.

Everyone insisting Harry must look better than Peter is clearly taking cues from Ultimate Spider-Man - in the mainstream Spider-Man comics, Harry should be just as much of an outcast as Peter, and any popularity he has is simply due to his wealth, although he still chooses to befriend Peter, a real friend, rather than popular kids only after his money. Well technically, he befriends Peter through Gwen Stacy in the comics when they all meet at University, but that might have to be slightly reworked.

How did the movie fail on Peter being an outsider?
He had NO friends throughout the movie, wasn't in fashion, was picked on, and was awkward and anti-social so he even couldn't talk to girls or new people very well, which by the way it's so stupid that some people complain about him stuttering and talking quietly.
Peter is suppose to be anti-social, he keeps to himself, so he isn't going to be the strongest and most charismatic speaker in the world, but it seems like a lot people here (and on a lot of internet forums in general) aren't that bright and are just ignorant. VERY ignorant.

@SpectacularSpider Harry's supposed to be a cool kid not an outcast. When peter was first met Harry Harry didn't like him because he was friends with all the popular kids like flash, and flash always would tell him how much a square Peter is, Harry is not an outcast

I couldtn agree with Ror more. This is a reboot, let someone else besides the Franco's be Harry, and Dan will nail the edgy and dark side of Harry.

I feel like the character in chronicle felt like a real outsider, especially if both films were going for realism i would expect to have similar feelings towards both characters but i didn't.

While Raimi's Peter felt like a old nerd stereotype Webb's just felt like a modern nerd stereotype with the advantages of having a teenage heartthrob instead.


Also Chronicle ran circles around tasm when it came to the theme of being an outsider.

Lol Dave Franco. Why? Sure you can go off the Ultimate and 616 versions, but don't forget most of the media versions of Harry made him out to be a dork.

Someone get Greg Weisman to write Spider-Man movie please.
We're not trying to rehash the same exact thing. And Dave Franco has this HUGE air of, conceitedness around him, something his brother doesn't have.

Damn I was hoping for Idris Elba, but Dehaan is pretty awesome too. After Chronicle, I feel chills going down my spine everytime I see his face.

Why do people here use the term "emo" so loosely? Like descibing Peter in TASM as emo. How the hell is he emo? Because he cried because his Uncle, the only father figure he really knows, DIED? Because he's emotional about his parents, considering he's an orphan it would of course be a touchy subject for him. It seems like nowadays if it isn't happy it's labeled as "emo" by the internet. And seriously, some of you people are just so hypocritical. Some of you think James Franco's brother, the guy who played Harry in the last trilogy who look just alike, should play Harry? Yet you complain that the first movie is too much of a rehash? How the hell does that make ANY sense at all? And I bet if for whatever reason they actually decided to go with him, then the same people who nominated him will b*tch about the movie anyway and say its going to suck.

But they come from different backgrounds. The guy from Chronicle wasn't an orphan, his dad was a drunk, while Peter is an orphan, and also a nerd, but not a faux nerd. Peter has more of a reclusive side, while the other guy had anger and fear inside him. No two outcasts are the same, if that was true then why wouldn't outcasts be friends with other outcasts? There isn't much of an "outcast" group in highschool anymore, they're individuals now.

I know and it always annoys because it's just makes people sound so ignorant, like when some people thing anything associated with teens is "emo". Its obviously an insult, and a bold insult at that because its a generalization. Some people seem to forget that one of the defining characteristics that made Peter Parker unique at the time, and this has been said numerously by Stan Lee himself, was that Peter was the first actual TEENAGE superhero, not just a side-kick.
