Bryan Singer Eases Fans' Concerns About X-MEN: DOFP Costumes

When costume designer Louise Mingenbach was announced as rejoining Singer on the sequel to X-Men: First Class, many fans assumed the worst - more generic, leather outfits for the characters. Well, the latest Tweet from the director should assuage concerns..

There was quite a stir on here when Mingenbach offcially returned to work with Bryan Singer on X-Men: Days Of Future Past. Why? Well, she was the one responsible for the matching leather costumes in X1 and 2 that fans hated so much, and that means she was going to go the same route with this movie right? Well, no - obviously. But for the fans that feared the worst, Singer has taken to Twitter..

Doesn't get much clearer than that does it? Obviously we don't know if this means we'll be getting costumes faithful to the comic books, but it should appease those leather-phobes among you anyway.

Then what type of suits will they wear?I can't wait to see set pics from this movie.I can't wait to see how Singer and Fox ruin this movie.

BruceLeroy - 11/14/2012, 8:21 PM

ArmoredAsgardian - 11/14/2012, 8:29 PM

CoolantTech - 11/14/2012, 8:30 PM
How about no matching suits... at all
D117 - 11/14/2012, 8:30 PM
Doesn't matter what type of suits they use, people will still complain I never had a problem with the leather suits.
superotherside - 11/14/2012, 8:30 PM
Oh, so adaptions of their costumes like the great Superman costume he did in Superman Returns? Oh yeah...

:P
CharlesTheIncredible - 11/14/2012, 8:31 PM

DioFoRio - 11/14/2012, 8:32 PM
"Leather is to expensive...we're using Pleather."

Bryan Singer
hope420 - 11/14/2012, 8:33 PM
No leather huh? So this time everyone is dressing like Wolverine and wear a wife beater and jeans.
BeanzReilly - 11/14/2012, 8:33 PM
Never had a problem with the leather suits, but unique outfits would sweeten the deal.
ArmoredAsgardian - 11/14/2012, 8:35 PM
This isn't 2000 leather suits didn't look good then wouldn't look good now. So glad they aren't coming back. Hope to really see something more similar to the comics and give everyone's costume something unique. The ones in the other films all looked the same.
RorMachine - 11/14/2012, 8:36 PM
You guys who hated the costumes so much need to put things into context. X-Men was a VERY risky movie for everyone involved..I'm sure I don't need to go into why. They were always gonna have to downplay certain elements, and matching outfits were just a safer option than flamboyant, colored gear. Then why change it up in the sequel when it worked? And it did work, whether you personally liked it or not. Now that the franchise is so established and First Class added a bit of color, I would also like a bit of variation in each character's costume..but if there isn't, it's not gonna be the end of the world - I'm more concerned with little things like, y'know, the actual quality of the movie!
Shadowelfz - 11/14/2012, 8:37 PM
Whatever. Those leather costumes probably looked a hell of a lot better than the comic ones. X:FC had it right with that blue black combo. Compromise people. Compromise.
JoseTheKingOfTheNorth - 11/14/2012, 8:38 PM
I don't think the leather was the problem... It was the lack of color that turned fanboys ravenous towards the outfits. Just add color!!!
DurtyTalynt - 11/14/2012, 8:40 PM
Well the comic days of future past the xmen were out of costume anyways. I'm sure they will be in old navy or gap clothing like xmen fist ass. Until the end when magneto had a candy apple helmet. Fox will never do xmen right.

Morbius - 11/14/2012, 8:41 PM
I kinda liked the Leather Costumes but the Yellow and Blue ones are better!!!!
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 11/14/2012, 8:41 PM
To be fair, the X-Men have had matching uniforms/costumes in the comics throughout the years.I would love to see them on screen with individual costumes for a change.
XavierLehnsherr - 11/14/2012, 8:42 PM
The X-Men each have a recognizable feature so they don't even need costumes. Very few of them look normal.
JDUKE25 - 11/14/2012, 8:42 PM
Here's the link to a much higher resolution of that pic.

D117 - 11/14/2012, 8:42 PM
@Ror Agreed
JDUKE25 - 11/14/2012, 8:43 PM
The leather costumes were fine for the first film, but even Singer said they would go on to branch out and become individualistic with their costumes as the movies went on. All we got was color changes in the lines on the leather suits...... Wow. I want to see them in legit comic costumes.
RSDhillon - 11/14/2012, 8:44 PM
Sweet!
Let's give Cyclops a mask!!
If he's in it. I don't know when this takes place.
blvdnoise - 11/14/2012, 8:45 PM

95 - 11/14/2012, 8:45 PM
Speaking of 20th Century Fox... if you have not seen Prometheus — there's a good reason the reviews are mixed. Felt like reading a 9th Grader's essay, starts off with an intelligent thesis but never quite follows through with a complete resolution. Let's say: I'm glad I rented it for a dollar through Redbox.
RSDhillon - 11/14/2012, 8:46 PM
THANK you, @JDUKE25! I've been looking for that!
deanwilkins - 11/14/2012, 8:47 PM
Best news I heard all day!
IIIAdamantiumIII - 11/14/2012, 8:49 PM

ATrueHero1987 - 11/14/2012, 8:52 PM
I do wonder if directors and/or producers look at this site & the comments.
indigobolt956 - 11/14/2012, 8:53 PM
ya know ow that i see them now they dont actually look as bad as i remember them

MARVELPSYCHO79 - 11/14/2012, 8:54 PM
Making comic book movies back in the late 90s and early 2000s was risky but the X-Men was a best selling comic, had a hit animated television show on Fox,and a lot of people wanted to see a movie made about them.Even my brother loved the 90s cartoon and he never picked up a comic or like this genre.I just think it's time for Fox to give all these characters some type of costumes like they have in the comics.I'm tired of seeing Logan wearing a tank top and jeans or leather.
JDUKE25 - 11/14/2012, 8:57 PM
@RSDhillon no problem

I think they should have those designs, but make them out of a tougher material to give them some form of protection.
ATrueHero1987 - 11/14/2012, 8:58 PM
Again, maybe one day we will see costumes like these on the big screen:

Giznad - 11/14/2012, 9:00 PM
I wonder if that Josh Wilding tweet inspired him...
MrAgamotto - 11/14/2012, 9:02 PM
Great news! I just hope we get to see Cyclops again, Also, I was thinking and since DOTFP will feature time travels they could fix the X-Men franchise continuity, they even can erease X-Men: The last Stand from continuity and pretend that never happen!

As for the costumes, go with Alex Ross redesign
MARVELPSYCHO79 - 11/14/2012, 9:04 PM
@Marvel87 I think those costumes in the first pic would translate well to the big screen.Especially Cyclops.I love that costume and Gambit's.
KingLing - 11/14/2012, 9:08 PM
Emma Frost's comic costume doesn't look capable of holding against gravity. It must be the stiffest strapless ever, being able to hold up a cape.
Ceejay - 11/14/2012, 9:10 PM
Only fanboys would sit through a movie with people turning up to fight in ridiculous outfits like the comics have them in and not question WTF they're wearing and why.
HAILHYDRA - 11/14/2012, 9:11 PM
I've given up on the X-Men movies making sense. It's like they're all supposed to fit together but then the writers change one or two things to help their story with no regards to the other films. Discontinuity everywhere you look. That's why the Avengers is so refreshing. Yes, the MCU has it plot holes, but at least the writers don't step on other movies just to improve their story line.
ATrueHero1987 - 11/14/2012, 9:12 PM
@MARVELPSYCHO79 So do I. I think that's the best costume Cyclops ever had. I wish Marvel would keep that. The new one he's going to wear in Uncanny X-Men...everything else is fine except that silly ass hood.

DrDoom - 11/14/2012, 9:13 PM
I'm actually stunned.
