Scratch Brad Bird Off Your STAR WARS Director Wishlist

Although never actually rumored as a potential choice to helm the new movie, Bird was the director many fans hoped to see land the job. Well unfortunately the following tweet makes things pretty clear - although Bird does suggest the sci-fi flick he IS working on (presumably 1952) will be worth waiting for..

Brad Bird was definitely the name brought up most when potential directors for Star Wars Episode VII were being discussed. He seemed not only to be the fan's first choice, but many other directors, actors and net-journos too. Just take a look at this fan-made campaign video to get an idea of what I'm talking about..

But as you can see from the following Tweets, it just wasn't meant to be..

Are you disappointed by this? Or were you never expecting him to be in consideration based solely on popular choice anyway? Sound off below.

I KNEW IT! I knew he wouldn't do Star Wars.
SS2894 - 11/17/2012, 6:27 PM
How about Gore Verbinski?
Hellsboy - 11/17/2012, 6:28 PM
can we just forget about this movie, do you all forget manaquin skywalker? they could do something equally as bad this time around IMO
DaenerysTargaryen - 11/17/2012, 6:29 PM
It seems like whenever fans choose somebody they like a couple days later that director says he doesn't want to do it. I wonder who will be the next director to say he's not interested.
valeriesghost - 11/17/2012, 6:36 PM
I'm with Froggy, I'd rather have him open for a Justice league movie. Although I think he would have been excellent for SW7
SageMode - 11/17/2012, 6:37 PM
Brad Bird for the potential sequel for this guy.......

HeadPool420 - 11/17/2012, 6:38 PM
Good director but he wasn't on my wishlist. My wishlist will never come true since it has James Cameron on it.:/
peppy - 11/17/2012, 6:44 PM
No way , he is my top choice
loshanagan - 11/17/2012, 6:45 PM
But he did retweet a tweet about episode VIII...
rockerdude22 - 11/17/2012, 6:55 PM
Would have loved to see him do Episode VII, but it's understandable if he can't or doesn't want to do it. I trust that Disney will find a good director.
Jolt17 - 11/17/2012, 6:59 PM
I'd love to see him working on it (who doesn't!?), but I've never expected it, either. I've been saying that the director most likely won't be one of the "fanboy-friendly" names...

Still, I'm hoping it would be Duncan Jones, George Nolfi, or even Joe Johnston.
Preston - 11/17/2012, 7:03 PM

Brad Bird for Justice League!

Justice League
mattboesch8907 - 11/17/2012, 7:07 PM
Come on Jon Faverau.
SkaBoy - 11/17/2012, 7:15 PM
I can't believe there is more talk about Matthew Vaughn doing it... What would make you drop doing Xmen First Class 2? His Secret Service movie? No. An opportunity to do Star Wars. We have heard nothing from him since dropping Xmen. I am not saying he is my first choice, but he is my guess who is going to do it.
teinen - 11/17/2012, 7:46 PM
Duncan Jones
Kayo - 11/17/2012, 8:10 PM
what about Gilliam or Zemeckis?

@halloweenjack

I have visited this site a long time without ever commenting, and have to say i hate your opinion on every article you comment on.. prick!
localman - 11/17/2012, 8:55 PM
@HalloweenJack, Brad Bird has been successful with everything, even saving Ratatouille. Bird knows how to make a great movie, and until he makes a stinker, he should be considered one of the best directors around. I'm sure he would have done a great job with Star Wars . . .

But I would rather see him do Incredibles 2. I would rather see him do Incredibles 2 than a JLA movie, or a Star Wars movie, or any Marvel movie or any other movie.
batfan175 - 11/17/2012, 9:31 PM
enough with the star wars movies. i have it up to here with nerdy fanboys complaining about how their childhood has been destroyed. I had to listen to this 3 times already and I don't want to hear all the whining when they get butthurt the next time.
mgeoff88 - 11/17/2012, 9:36 PM
That's really disappointing. First Steven Spielberg, and now Brad Bird.
myparentsaredead - 11/17/2012, 9:48 PM
At this point, it really could be anybody. It's a shame, but it's very understandable as to why no one wants to touch it: this is a massive responsibility.
Webhead007 - 11/17/2012, 9:50 PM
J.J. Abrams!

Swiftsword777 - 11/17/2012, 10:14 PM
guess thats that on to the next one fanladyboys
grandizer74 - 11/17/2012, 10:29 PM
why are there all these stories about who the director isn't going to be? is it that hard to fill up the news? why don't you save the story for when there actually is a story, which will be when there's an official announcement of who the director is.
Tevii - 11/17/2012, 10:48 PM
My guess is Jon Favreau. He has experience with genre, he loves Star Wars and more importantly he has strong connections at Disney.
jingorot - 11/17/2012, 11:42 PM
Lol, HalloweenJack's acting like Brad Bird diddled him as a child.

It's ok if you don't like Brad Bird. But you're getting a little too passionate, bud.

As for who I'd like to see direct Star Wars: I thought Spielberg and Bird would've been great fits. But they both said no. HalloweenJack brought up James Cameron, who'd be great too, but he's made himself busy with Avatar.

With those three out of the way I can't really think of anyone that just 'clicks' as the perfect match. Jon Favreau's ok, I guess...
Danbojohnj - 11/18/2012, 12:25 AM
Fincher,Watchowskis or Faverau.....don't go with some cheap Indie/TV director for the love of grud.
Danbojohnj - 11/18/2012, 12:26 AM
.........except Pete Travis,he knocked Dredd wayyyyy out of the park with only 35 million.
blackscienceman - 11/18/2012, 1:07 AM
what director IS going to want to do starwars? it's a MASSIVE burden to carry, and it would take some massive stones to step up and say "i want to direct star wars"
norseman79 - 11/18/2012, 1:45 AM
Wachowskis will shit the bed on star wars. They haven't done anything good since the first matrix movie.

Favreau is ok, but he hasn't done anything great recently either. (since Iron Man)

Fincher is not the right kind of director for star wars. He's not bad but sci-fi action doesn't seem right for him. Alien3 was shit.

...imho. I have no [frick]ing idea who should direct Ep VII either. The good candidates are dropping like flies
Parker2017 - 11/18/2012, 3:01 AM
I Honestly think this is how it will go down: Rien Johnson, Josh Weadon, Brad Bird. Christen Bale will be a sith Lord with Tom Hiddleson as a jedi turn dark, turn to the new empire, and NO. MORE. JAR JAR!! then we can see a new Star wars Live action TV Show :) FINALLY.
Parker2017 - 11/18/2012, 3:03 AM
@Norseman79 Dude Alien3 was Finchers frist film, I think you can cut him SOME slack even with how terrible it was behind the scenes. James Camrons first film was Piranha's II. So i tihnk he can work.

Star Trak WAS Star Wars. that is all.
Jollem - 11/18/2012, 3:18 AM
i finally saw looper. that was friggin' awesome

FanOfTheKnight - 11/18/2012, 3:22 AM
@SS2894: I was just thinking about the possibility of Gore Verbinski as well the other day. I was reading a blurb about him and there was a quote that he is among the best in the biz at integrating special effects into his movies.

He can handle large franchises as he did a great job with Pirates of the Caribbean and I think he would transition just fine from that to a space setting.

One of my top choices for sure.
Danbojohnj - 11/18/2012, 3:34 AM
Davis O Russell,forgot about him.

Lucas needs to ring Spielberg up and ask him beard to beard to direct it.SW needs a safe pair of hands.
marvel72 - 11/18/2012, 6:49 AM
