FAN ART: "We're Back" - The STAR WARS Characters Return For EPISODE VII

Deviant-artist RhymesSyndicate has created this impressive piece which depicts the older versions of Han (Harrison Ford), Lando (Billy Dee Williams), Luke (Mark Hamill), Leia (Carrie Fisher) and Chewbacca as they reunite for the upcoming Star Wars Episode VII..

Don't they look happy? Seeing this has actually reaffirmed my belief that having at least some of these guys pop up in the new trilogy - even just as a series of cameos - is the right thing to do. Granted a few of em may not have aged quite so well as they are depicted here, but hey, nothing bit of Hollywood magic can't sort out.

Says the artist..

"As a long-time fan of Star Wars I was overjoyed to hear that there are finally plans for more feature films now that George Lucas has sold the franchise to Disney. I know not everyone agrees – but I’ve been waiting for this since 1983 and I think it’s great news!

The momentous event prompted me to dust off my digital pen and draw this picture to show how I imagine the lead characters might look now. I have no idea if the plan is to use the same actors in the new movie – although I really hope they do.

I also gave them new costumes – nothing radical – just variations on what we saw them wear in the original trilogy. I’d love to design new characters and costumes for the new movies – but for this piece the main thing was to get the actors’ likenesses right and I’m pleased with the result."

Chewie didnt age at all. I thought I would see some grey fur or something.
RorMachine - 12/2/2012, 11:38 AM
See it kinda makes sense that he doesn't as Wookies live for so much longer than humans..he was supposed to be 200 back in the original trilogy anyway.
technodrome518 - 12/2/2012, 11:38 AM
Poor Chewy...his demise is so sad, but so heroic :(
MarkJulian - 12/2/2012, 11:39 AM
I never liked how all the jedi and sith in the prequels all seemed so much more powerful.
Kaedus - 12/2/2012, 11:40 AM
They cast Malcolm McDowell as Luke! :P
Wildaniel - 12/2/2012, 11:41 AM
Grey Chewie, that would be awesome!
Wingding - 12/2/2012, 11:42 AM
Luke looks just like Ben
jimpinto24 - 12/2/2012, 11:42 AM
I hope the original cast does make a cameo in Star Wars Episode 7.
HellsHammer - 12/2/2012, 11:42 AM
Luke looks old as [frick]. I thought he was the youngest of the group (obviously besides lea because their twins)
xizorkatarn - 12/2/2012, 11:44 AM
They better keep Chewie dead. For continuity's sake.
NerdyGeek - 12/2/2012, 11:46 AM
Luke doesn't look like Mark Hamill at all, everything else though, looks great!
Tony93 - 12/2/2012, 11:46 AM
hm so thats how they would look like..
by the way guys TDKR countdown is at 93% so like 2 more days
TheAmazingSpiderMan47 - 12/2/2012, 11:48 AM
it would be really crazy if chewie was in it, and all of his hair is gray :/
RorMachine - 12/2/2012, 11:48 AM
Yeah he does look like McDowell!

xizorkatarn , they aren't following any continuity from the expanded universe. It's gonna be a completely new story.

@Mark Julian Well both Obiwan and Yoda were past there prime in the original trilogy. They knew they were physically to old. They were the last two jedi masters.

Chewie Lives!
CaptainAmerica31 - 12/2/2012, 11:57 AM
You know your on a comic site when they advertise ways to be " irresitable to girls"
AC1 - 12/2/2012, 12:02 PM
Chewie looked exactly the same when he made a cameo appearance in Episode III when Yoda visited Kashyyyk, so I doubt he'd have changed very much between Episodes 6 and 7. Also, I've heard about Chewie dying in the expanded universe, but aren't the new movies ignoring all of that anyway?

Luke looks badass! Although I have to agree that he looks like the lovechild of Mark Hamill and Malcolm McDowell. Still very cool though, somehow the artist has managed to make it look like a more futuristic version of Star Wars without making it look like the prequels in any way.
AC1 - 12/2/2012, 12:09 PM
I hope the set and prop designs in the new films are closer to the original trilogy than the prequels, I like how they explained the tech looking older in the originals as being due to the effects of the Empire, but I really do prefer the more 'classic' Star Wars vehicles like the X and Y Wing starfighters, and the TIEs, AT-ATs, etc...

And of course, the Millenium Falcon HAS to be in them!!!

I do like some of the planet designs in the prequels though, especially Coruscant. Hopefully Tattooine makes a return too, somehow.

Also, concerning decisions made during the prequels, Padme really should have come from Alderaan instead of Naboo, and it should've also been the Gungan homeworld. That way, watching Episode 4 would be extra satisfying knowing that the Empire killed Jar-Jar and his entire annoying-ass species with the Death Star!
Deadshot - 12/2/2012, 12:19 PM
Wow I hope this is what they look and dress like in the movies! The artist did a great job.
ALmazing - 12/2/2012, 12:23 PM
I cried a little.
NorseGod - 12/2/2012, 12:25 PM
Lando and Luke look awesome! Leia and Han are not quite right to my eye. But overall this is great work!
RobinNumbah6 - 12/2/2012, 12:26 PM
I'm glad somebody did this, helps paint a picture, but they're being generous with the weight problems.
Bread - 12/2/2012, 12:53 PM
I love how Luke looks in this. Hopefully he'll resemble this if he's in the new movies
Bigred20 - 12/2/2012, 12:56 PM
lol
INSTANTJUSTICE - 12/2/2012, 1:00 PM

I love how they left out all the guts and botox.
NostalgicYouth - 12/2/2012, 1:06 PM
I'm sorry but when I saw the teaser image I thought the part where it says "we're back" said "we're black".
HULK2099 - 12/2/2012, 1:21 PM
I would not mind seeing this, I hope this is the aim for episode 7 with new characters
DrRockso - 12/2/2012, 2:57 PM
What's up with Han's ear?
skot888 - 12/2/2012, 2:57 PM
*spoiler* Chewie got smashed to death by a moon. True Story, now whether they keep that is anyone's guess.
TheSoulEater - 12/2/2012, 3:00 PM
Awww
Minato - 12/2/2012, 3:03 PM
Ive seen all the movies but im not too versed on the mythology so thanks, I didnt know wookies life span was so long.
mctrinket - 12/2/2012, 3:55 PM
Lando? C'mon.
Pauul - 12/2/2012, 4:43 PM
"extended universe has no bearing on the films. it's only been stated about ten thousand times."

Actually, the Expanded Universe does have some bearing on the films.

The name Coruscant originated in the novel Heir to the Empire and a Jedi called Aayla Secura who originated in the comics makes appearances in Episode II and Episode III.

However, these are minor concessions.

If they can tell the story of the new movies without Chewie then they will, if they think they do need him, then they'll overturn his death.

That being said, the Expanded Universe is adaptable. If Chewie came back to life for the movies then they'd find a way to explain it in the books and the comics.

DoodPool - 12/2/2012, 5:58 PM

Optimus83 - 12/2/2012, 6:12 PM
¡¡¡Good Fan-Art of Star Wars!!!
repulse93 - 12/2/2012, 7:00 PM
Holy shit! They definitely look their age yet still significantly badass.

And regarding the idea for the story, while the books may have made some mistakes, I feel the best direction would be to adapt the New Jedi Order into a trilogy and BRING ON THE YUUHZAN VONG!!!!
Mr2099 - 12/2/2012, 8:21 PM
Dude, this is awesome!! True, they were generous with the weights and how Hamill looks now after his accident way back in the day, but this is still GREAT to see!!!!
