The article from the mag contains the following description, which reveals a few new details from the plot. SPOILERS ahead..

..With Earth under terrorist attack from Benedict Cumberbatch’s ex-Starfleet employee John Harrison, Kirk is this time forced into a rash decision that breaks a critical Starfleet command, puts his crew in danger & costs him his captain’s chair. Now out of uniform and dressed down in space civvies of black leather jackets and boots, our three heroes have separated from the Enterprise and headed off on a mission to try and rectify his mistake…

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

When they will stop putting the villain in cells like that?
LP4 - 12/24/2012, 4:23 AM
These covers look awesome. Looks like the villain...might change his appearance in the film at some point?
RadicalDuck - 12/24/2012, 4:26 AM
@mrwasabe2 - agreed.
Danbojohnj - 12/24/2012, 4:36 AM
Nothing screams 'Star Trek' too me at all from those pictures, could be any generic Hollywood tripe.
LP4 - 12/24/2012, 4:37 AM
@CubanRaftRider- NOT khan. But thanks for pointing out the most obvious choice- khan. You really think Abrams is THAT predictable that he'll go with Khan? The one villain everyone was already expecting?

Cumberbatch is not Khan. May can't come soon enough to quiet all the khan talk.
In fact going by your logic-

Member of Starfleet gone rogue

See my point?

JJ Abrams, the man who turned ST into GIJOE. The man who destroyed ST...
No boldly go, no new species, no explorations, no intelligent plot, only EFX and, silly and loud action and mass destruction.
Abrams despises ST. He is absolutly antiRoddenberry...
Right now ST is only an action movie in an endeless army of action movies.ST is not a special thing rigth now. Abrams's ST and GIJOE is the same stuff. Oh, yes, Abrams earns a lot of money with his pseudo ST. No matter. This is a ST without soul. It's ST only in name.

Esto no es Star Trek. Es la destrucción de Star Trek. Esto es antiStar Trek.

Extra fail with that Kirk pic. That shit could be ANY movie with some dude in black leather with a gun.
LP4 - 12/24/2012, 5:10 AM
@TheRedHood- They said who he is. He's John Harrison ;P

Honestly i'm starting to think John is really his name and he might just be an augment. But i seriously doubt he is Khan himself. Although you never know...

given the info they've released so far on the movie, I would guess he's a member of Section 31, certainly fits the bill( http://en.memory-alpha.org/wiki/Section_31 for those who dont know)
SuperDude001 - 12/24/2012, 5:19 AM
Well Kirk should be in his uniform cause otherwise it looks like it could be any action movie with Chris Pine. Cumberbatch one looks cool though (and has no one considered that he's just playing an original character called John Harrison?).
silverdog - 12/24/2012, 5:25 AM
meh.. nothing "star trek" about this covers.. just apply some blue photoshop filter and write "rise" on them.
Nomis1800 - 12/24/2012, 5:55 AM
I like Cumberbatch's Jacket!!!!! Want.
VictorHugo - 12/24/2012, 5:58 AM
Ahem...this poster looks eerily similar to the Star Trek Nemesis poster, which had this "Darkness" theme going on as well.

I´d rather see Spock´s new astronaut garb.
P90 - 12/24/2012, 7:14 AM
People need to stop bitching about how this "doesn't look like Star Trek". Is it more of an action movie with a ST skin? Maybe, but at least ST is still on peoples lips. Without these films the franchise would be deader than DeForest Kelley.

Nice pics....except for the covers

looking forward to this movie chris pine looks like he is doing the jason bourne thing and spock has the blade runner pose even looks like he has deckards gun lol.
TheFox - 12/24/2012, 2:31 PM
Oh, for-- REALLY? They just got Kirk in command at the end of the last movie, and now this one is going to feature him getting kicked out of the captain's chair? What is J.J. Abrams' problem with just letting Kirk be a freaking captain?

Oy. It's not like I'm not going to watch the movie because of it or anything, but it's just a little disappointing. He's Captain James T. Kirk, for God's sake; his rank and his uniform are iconic. Having him run around without it are like having a Superman movie where Supes never puts on the suit.
