Every Pop Culture Reference From Tarantino's Movies; Director Calls PROMETHEUS "Dumb"

The iconic director may have no interest in helming a CBM, but that hasn't stopped him peppering his movies with comic book references! The following vid documents every reference to popular culture from Reservoir Dogs to Inglorious Basterds..

The most pertinent ones are Bill's Clark Kent analogy from Kill Bill Volume 2 and the Fantastic Four stuff from Reservoir Dogs, but there are plenty more too, some I hadn't actually noticed before. Have a watch and see if any slipped you by first time around..

Apparently there are some great ones in Django Unchained too, but you'll have to head to theaters to check them out. And as a bonus, here's video from the director's appearance on the Craig Ferguson show in which he calls out one of the more fan-bashed elements of Ridley Scott's Prometheus as being "dumb"..

"On one hand I was a little disappointed by it. On the other hand it was actually kind of cool to see a big deal, serious science-fiction epic by a director like Ridley Scott. Overall the experience was pretty cool having been in it. But there was also a lot of dumb stuff in it. When it got to the point where they're on another planet and then a space cobra literally shows up, opens up its hood and the guy who's in charge of alien creatures goes, 'Hey, little fella! How ya doin'?' I was like, 'Uhhhhh... It's a space cobra!'"

Huh!!! Why is everyone hating on Prometheus?
RorMachine - 1/3/2013, 6:33 AM
I liked the movie but that scene he describes in without a doubt one of the most ridiculous things I've ever seen in a film.
CharlesLord - 1/3/2013, 6:33 AM
I liked prometheus but theres no denying the amount of stupid crap that happened in the movie
monstalova - 1/3/2013, 6:35 AM
Prometheus was my fav of 2012 grif.
I know alot of people didnt like it though...
Cant wait for the sequel
Shamo - 1/3/2013, 6:36 AM
most dissapointed movie of the year.
orpheus - 1/3/2013, 6:41 AM
love that man and his movies. who cares if he criticizes Prometheus? This site is far too preoccupied with being hyper-sensitive to contrary opinions and criticisms of films people enjoyed (or didn't). enough getting off on flaming, competition and nonconstructive criticism - so many opinions offered without any real content.
marvel72 - 1/3/2013, 6:47 AM
i liked prometheus not as good as alien or blade runner but i still enjoyed it.it definitely would make my ten best films of 2012.
Soze - 1/3/2013, 7:02 AM
I neither like Tarantino nor Prometheus.
edmundo - 1/3/2013, 7:06 AM
@ Tea funny stuff. Prometheus was the most disappointing film of the year for me and that is only because I had such high hopes for it. I would think twice before seeing the sequel
imnotwearinghockeypants - 1/3/2013, 7:07 AM
Prometheus was terrible because it was riddled with scenes like that which made no sense/opened gaping holes in the story. Awful and disappointing.
Danbojohnj - 1/3/2013, 7:10 AM
Meh,I liked it.
herodian - 1/3/2013, 7:16 AM
tragically, this will get a sequel and Dredd probably won't.
DarthDan - 1/3/2013, 7:20 AM
Prometheus had a brilliant first 45 minutes (despite the lack of action). The build up felt alot like a blowjob with no payoff..
Egan - 1/3/2013, 7:26 AM
Django isn't really a great "5 star" film either. A lot of people forgive the piss poor pace, the downright bad acting from Kerry Washington and bad story telling just because it's a Tarantino film.

Also the word "[racial slur]" was said more times in the entire film than it was said in the 1800's.
Danbojohnj - 1/3/2013, 7:42 AM
That space cobra should have laid a big dirty egg in that guys head and moved on from there rather than having Shaw get preggers off sulky.
I love the whole Engineers starting life with the goo angle though and look forward to where it goes in part 2,more scary beasties I hope and more fear and suspense.

Better than Twilight fer[frick]sake ;)
LucasMend - 1/3/2013, 7:43 AM
Haha that's why I love Tarantino. Good to know some people with good sense also see how awful this movie is.
2gold - 1/3/2013, 7:43 AM
Well, they had enough jars to infect all of humanity. They were planning to one day go to Earth. They obviously needed us to show up to wake them to let them know we were "ready", judging from all the symbols they left of "hey go here". So if I had to guess, Earth is nothing more than a breeding colony for either more of them or we are nothing more than tissue used to make weapons out of the goo. But that's all guess work. Watching the movie again, they don't really have the jockey reveal anything. It was literally designed to be the questions to be answered in the sequel.
jessepostal - 1/3/2013, 7:53 AM
@manof, that's kind of the point of the end of the movie with them moving on looking for answers.
DRMidNite - 1/3/2013, 8:09 AM
Tarantino is an arrogant douche.
FOOM - 1/3/2013, 8:11 AM
Lots of stuff was stupid didn't make sense in Prometheus but I still liked it and even more on Blu Ray. Go figure.
nordberg - 1/3/2013, 8:20 AM
Prometheus is perhaps the only Ridley Scott film that I have no desire to ever watch again. It was that bad. Yeah, it was pretty to look at but the writing was abysmal. I just hope his upcoming Blade Runner sequel/refresh is better conceived.
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 8:31 AM
They missed a shitload of references in that College Humor thing. But it was pretty good, regardless.
I don't think Tarantino disliked the movie that much. That guy with the space cobra was stupid, but it doesn't make the film stupid, just the character in the film. It's definitely one of those shout at the screen moments.
I think the main reason that people dislike this film is that it was hyped to the wrong crowd. Us lot. We're a different buncha geeks than we were 30 years back. We wouldn't care for films like Bladerunner, these days. We'd feel punked by it, like it let us down, because there weren't enough action scenes and it wasn't as fast-paced as it looked in the trailer. Geeks these days are just kids who want a summer blockbuster to be the most satisfying by the criteria of action, effects, excitement, etc. They want big, bigger, biggest. If it's something that inspires thought, then it has to be bloody profound or why bother thinking at all, just blow something up. We don't want themes or characters or emotions or psychology or art or any of that bullshit.
We're like drunk, horny women. We want the biggest dick we can find and we want it to give us multiple orgasms and satisfy us in every way possible. And if it ain't as good as the last guy then it can [frick] off. Wait this one wants to talk afterwards?! [frick] that.
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 8:33 AM
Nomis@ Hey, Tarantino can suck my balls! Am I wise, too?
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 8:33 AM
Y'know, "beyond the web"?
GodzillaKart - 1/3/2013, 8:47 AM
Here's the thing: Prometheus had jaw droppingly beautiful visuals and fantastic acting.

Then it had absurdly dumb nonsensical "science" and characters who acted in ways no person would act.

It ends up being like a piece of shit, rusty Yugo with fantastic rims and a great sound system. Except really not that good, because I could imagine that being kinda cool in a WTF kind of way.

It was like that Yugo trying to convince you it was a Ferrari
Fishandchips - 1/3/2013, 9:00 AM
I liked prometheus, but it was definitely sequel bait, but as long as the sequel is good I can probably forgive Ridley Scott for that.
GodzillaKart - 1/3/2013, 9:05 AM
Prometheus was really just B splatter sci fi putting on airs.
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 9:25 AM
BluePallando@ I wasn't saying that it was too deep for us, I'm saying that we don't want any depth whatsoever and if something is giving us any depth then it better be the deepest [frick]ing depth possible if that's it's selling point. We're like fat, rich, evil people with a disposable whore every single time we're presented with a film that a lot of people have put their sweat, blood and tears into. And yes, Bladerunner did bomb, but the fans still loved it, when it came out on video. Back then what the geeks loved and what was mainstream, popular and succesful were not the same things. Unlike today.
GFart@ You know that I disagree, but that was a fvcking good one-line critique. Classic.
jj2112 - 1/3/2013, 9:26 AM
IMO it was terrible, its greatest flaw was trying to explain the origin of the Alien in a way that made no sense. Maybe it would have worked better as an unrelated movie.

And now wait for the (justified, I'm sure) Blade Runner hate.
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 9:29 AM
Back in the early '80s, when a film like Bladerunner or Heavy Metal or Evil Dead came out, it was like a few drops of water for dying men in the desert. Now, when The Avengers and Prometheus and The Dark Knight Rises come out, we're like Jabba The Hut, spitting out a plate of chips.
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 9:30 AM
Farkosaurus@ Must be important to her, then, huh?
Nubase - 1/3/2013, 9:41 AM
the movie was good..in parts but scott made it very clear from the beginning that the movie was not gona be another alien movie but will have the DNA of alien in it which it did but l think once the explanation of the space engineers was revealed like the scene where shaw discovers that they created us and now they want to destroy us the movie went downhill from there.

Also there was some scenes that was deleted from the final cut that should have been in the movie, especially the scene where david tells shaw in the spaceship where they came from by desribing its as paradise, that scene was crucial and for some reason it was cut.

So in all tarantino is right but that space cobra scene was dumb, it belonged in a comedy space movie.

l hope the sequel gets made and scott hires top writers to do the script cos they cannot leave it now, scott wanted to explain the space engineers motives that led up to the reveal of the space jockey and the john hurt face hugging scene in ripleys alien for years now, they have to get it right.
BFGLOOM - 1/3/2013, 10:00 AM
ManOfSuperguy - David told the Engineer that his creator wanted more life. He wanted to live forever. The engineer wasn't ok, they woke him up they spoke then he killed everyone. You're correct about the map shhit haha. They want to destroy life on earth as a result of something we did on earth 2,000 years ago. Christ seems logical based on things Ridley has said in e last year. They created us to use as host for the their weapon gone wrong, he Xeno. The weapon isn't just for US. They create things that destroy. Just wait for Paradise, you'll get answers.
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 10:35 AM
Farko@ So you're saying it could be dangerous?
DukeAcureds - 1/3/2013, 10:38 AM
BFGLOOM@ It was th reverse of Bladerunner. Roy Batty asked his creator for more life and killed his creator when he didn't get the answer he was looking for. Weyland got his robot to ask his creator for more life and his creator killed him and his robot.
BFGLOOM - 1/3/2013, 10:55 AM
Duke your correct again!
Giznad - 1/3/2013, 11:02 AM
haha, that video ended hilariously. Um, Prometheus had amazing visuals(except for Guy Pierce bad makeup job). Fassebender is my favorite actor right now, so I can't trash the movie. Heck, Ridley Scott's older now, so if the studio possibly dumbs the movie down, he probably doesn't care as much as he used to. The "space cobra" incident was dumb, but I liked that actor cuz he was awesome in Hot Fuzz. I still loved it, and I still think it's underrated even with that silly cobra(which was basically a genre pusher in my opinion) and some plotholes.
Durango95 - 1/3/2013, 11:18 AM
I liked Prometheus. It may have had some tings that werent exactly in line with Alien but just like X-Men:First Class it was just an enjoyable movie to watch. For the record I hated Singers/Ratner's X-Men movies.
PapaII - 1/3/2013, 11:27 AM
I agree 100% with QT! And that's why i had so much fun watching Prometheus! If you'll take sci-fi movies so seriously, then you'll get disappointed constantly! LOL
TheRock234 - 1/3/2013, 11:28 AM
Man it seems like this guy was raised on pop culture
