It seems we will be getting a space-faring take on Homer's epic poem, The Odyssey. According to the ever-reliable Deadline, Warner Bros. have hired James DiLapo to work on a script, but don't reveal any other details for now. The Odyssey is Homer's follow up to The Iliad (adapted loosely for the big screen as Troy with Brad Pitt) and follows Odysseus (played in that movie by Sean Bean) as he returns home from the battle, encountering many adventures an dangers on the way including a giant cyclops. This actually wouldn't be the first sci-fi take on the story, as we had the Franco-Japanese animated television series Ulysses 31 back in 1981 - Ulysses being Latin for Odysseus. It was actually a pretty great little series, so WB could do worse than to look to it for influence.

Oh terrific, someone saw an Japanese anime and now they will make their own by basing it on a western mythology wrapped up in metaphors and adjectives to throw off the real truth that its a remake of a cool Japanese anime...

@InfiniteMonkey

The Franco/Japanese anime Ulysses 31 was all ready based on Western mythology, you do know that the Odyssey is a Greek myth not an Asian or Japanese one?

So the 'West' are just re-adapting their own.

Couldnt we just get a sequel to troy with sean bean as odysseus?...it would basically be a soft reboot...continuing the story and feeling of troy but only mentioning the events of the last movie...no need for details.

If you can do The Odyssey in the Depression, why not Outer Space?

Keanu wishes he was cool enough to be Spike. Live action Bebop would be a travesty.

Why can't they bring back a good show like BJ and the bear?

Now there's a concept I can't get enough of...a man and his monkey...

seriously...Mallrats reference aside...give me Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, BraveStarr, Mighty Orbots, or Pirates of Dark Water before this drin.

sakibomb523 - 1/15/2013, 12:13 AM
You mean Sean Beam would actually survive at the end
AlexDeLarge87 - 1/15/2013, 1:15 AM
I think it could be cool if its made right.

Eric Bana needs some lead roles. Would like to see him as Odysseus. Or why not even Sean Bean. He needs more lead roles too.

looks like space movies are "in" now

I'm definitely interested in this,
It would be cooler if they had shelled out for the rights to Ulysses 31 though
