Hemsworth did say, that he auditioned twice. Who knows if Whedon was the reason, but anyway, Chris is the perfect Thor.

Hard to imagine they were actually considering someone else to play Thor instead of Hemsworth.

He told in another interview that while he was in the cabin in the woods Joss gave him a ramdon Ultimates comic and asked him to read.
