STAR TREK EXCLUSIVE: Brannon Braga on "Hive"

In this exclusive interview, writer Brannon Braga discusses his return to the Star Trek universe with the IDW four-issue Next Generation mini-series, "Hive," which launches this month and continues until December.

As he explains in the following audio interview, the miniseries takes place in Captain Picard's present as well as 500 years in the future where the Borg have assimilated virtually everything and are being led by the reassimilated Picard, who is once again Locutus.

Braga, of course, was an integral part of both Next Generation and Voyager, co-creator of Enterprise and co-writer of 1994's Generations and 1996's First Contact. He most recently served as executive producer of Terra Nova.

Is there anyone who thinks that in a story like this the Borg would actually end up triumphant?

That's right MCP, never liked Trek that much because they always use time travel too much, and it's always a dangerous plot device. The only good movie IMO was Wrath of Khan and First Contact despite the time travel.

Nope, actually that's not right MCP.

"more and more borg heavy in DS9". Did you even watch DS9? The borg were used just once, in a flashback scene of the pilot episode, The Emissary, that lasted only a couple of minutes and then they were never, EVER, seen in DS9 again. How does appearing once in the pilot episode for a necessary flashback constitute being used more and more?

If you're going to talk shit about trek, at least try to get your facts straight.

Overkill in Voyager, that's fair enough, but you're completely wrong about DS9.

@ RedM. right on that is right, I was wondering here he was coming from on the DS9. The Jem'Hadar where the Borg for DS9. I would agree with the Voyager statemnt thou.

Its Star Trek, you are going to have time travel from time to time. I can say this much @ least they don't use the same characters over & over again with Star Wars, that has been milked to death.

I am aching for a new Trek, it was the only thing on telly when I was a kid that made me think rather than just shout and dribble at the flashing images on the screen, TNG I'm on about, I'm only 30. This holier than though approach wont cut it now-a-days, it needs grit it needs human interaction we can relate to not the adventures of an advanced and civilised starship with their repudiators and sonic showers, can you picture a hot shower scene in star trek involving a sonic shower! I hate to compare but Battlestar Galactica rocked like no other, I'm still a trekkie its in me blood, but we need more in a series than just barking bridge commands to everyone, and I completely agree with overuse on the BORG, I didn't like Voyager and they were featured pretty much every week, I could stomach and quite fancy a BORG origin, dont care about the novels or fan write ups, I want visuals, watching a klingon power struggle is boring enough but reading one, no thanks.

Am I the only one who thought First Contact was a great Borg storyline? I love that movie because of its action and because of its humor and the interplay between the characters. If you look at the history of TNG, there was hardly any time spent allowing the characters to just enjoy interplay with each other like Kirk, Spock and McCoy did on the original. First Contact was one of the few times that the TNG crew captured that (IMO).

I loved First Contact, one of the last great Borg stories (Scorpion I & II were the last). Now, about this book... I don't know why he doesn't just have the Borg win. I mean, it's not like this story is cannon, anyway.

The Borg were completely wiped out in the Star Trek Destiny trilogy so where exactly does this fit?

First Contact was pretty badass for Star Trek
