MAN OF STEEL: Brief Interview with Amy Adams on Lois Lane

The ever-versatile Amy Adams could very well find herself Oscar bound this year due to her portrayal of Peggy Dodd in The Master, and while talking to her about that film, Deadline.com managed to squeeze in one question about next summer's Man of Steel.

Still under a veil of secrecy - and no doubt a signed confidentiality contract - she couldn't say much, but did offer the following in response to her take on the character of Lois Lane.

"I grew up with Margot Kidder as Lois Lane," offers the actress, "so I didn't want to try and be that version. Zack [Snyder] said that he wanted to play for more realism. There's definitely still banter [with Superman]. She's tough, modern, and more contemporary. There's also a lot more action than I've seen in my career."

Adams, of course, follows a long line of actresses who have portrayed the Daily Planet reporter, among them Noel Neill, Phyllis Coates, Kidder, Teri Hatcher, Erica Durance and Kate Bosworth.

Sound off below on which actress over the years has been captured the essence of Lois Lane.

Erica Durance was the toughest sexiest Lois.
nikgrid - 12/13/2012, 12:52 AM
...To bad her show and her Superman fvcking sucked.
Mystery - 12/13/2012, 1:14 AM
This is going to be such an awesome movie
MiracleMe - 12/13/2012, 2:47 AM
I like Adams, great actress. And though I don't mind a redheaded Lois, I do wish they'd made it a little darker shade of red. Actually auburn would've been perfect.
She's going to be great though.
And I hope we'll be saying best Superman movie ever.
monstalova - 12/13/2012, 3:00 AM
Teri Hatcher was the sexiest but not the best actress.
Margot Kidder was great in parts of the role - especially in the Richard Donner cut.
Erica Durance had the great banter with Clark but a really annoying voice.
Kate Bosworth well.... Lets pretend that never happened.
Amy Adams i think could be the best so far but probably not the look that most people want.
KeithM - 12/13/2012, 3:01 AM
What Verisimilitude said - she's in another league compared to every other actress who's played Lois. That being said it all still depends on the script being good, regardless.
DrRockso - 12/13/2012, 3:08 AM
If you're not sold on Amy, then just watch the second Night At The Museum. Great ass.
Vadakin - 12/13/2012, 4:21 AM
Perfect Lois? Dana Delany - the animated series.
Super12 - 12/13/2012, 5:36 AM
@Vadakin - good call

I think I'm stuck with Teri Hatcher's Lois Lane as the best having grown up with it. I know she's not perfect but I liked it a lot. And honestly? I didn't mind Kate Bosworth's take on it that much. I don't think she deserves all the hate everyone's throwing her just cause the movie was bad
DCjohnny - 12/13/2012, 5:46 AM
i am happy that she is lois lane .....
ComicBookGoth - 12/13/2012, 6:33 AM
Adams as Lois will bug me till i see her performance.
if its good?
great.

If it sucks?
I will continue to have distaste for her in that role.

I dug Durance

but out of all of them

@Vadakin

Has the right idea.

I wasn't too crazy about Amy Adams as Lois Lane when it was first announced. I've watched more movies of hers and she has grown on me.

She's a very talented actress, and it sounds like she'll bring her own take on the character.

1. Margot Kidder
2. Erica Durance
3. Teri Hatcher
4. Kate Bosworth

After MOS is released, I'm really hoping I can put Amy Adams as my new #1 Lois Lane.
Maximus101 - 12/13/2012, 7:31 AM
Good chance man of steel will be movie of the year for me.
DC4everLantern - 12/13/2012, 7:32 AM
She is hot.
spidey1994 - 12/13/2012, 7:54 AM
Margot Kidder, Teri Hatcher and Erica Durance were fantastic as Lois, Kate Bosworth was not bad, really look forward to seeing what Amy Adams brings to Lois.
SUPERSHADOWBAT - 12/13/2012, 8:00 AM
I thought Phyllis Coates was the perfect Lois, tough, smart and a fighter. She was a looker also. I liked Erica Durance, hot, smart and not whiny. I think Amy will do well as Lois. MOS FTW!
Ranger14 - 12/13/2012, 8:27 AM
I like Amy Adams as an actress, but the little bit it showed of her in the trailer, she just doesn't look right with Clark Kent/Superman. I have a difficult time seeing her as Lois Lane. Perhaps in watching the film and seeing how she takes on the persona will help, but it will be a tough sell for me.
valeriesghost - 12/13/2012, 8:32 AM
I've liked Teri the most. Although Erica was nice to look at, i really couldn't stand her portrayal of the character. If anything Chloe was more of a Lois character then Lois was.

Amy doesn't have the look i want, but i'll take chemistry and acting over the right look for this character any day.
RyKnow - 12/13/2012, 8:41 AM
I don't think there is a "best" Lois Lane. Each actress made their Lois unique to the show/film they were in. It's a bit superficial to prefer one over the other based simply on looks and forgetting about what they can bring to the table acting wise. Unless of course your still dancing with Pam and her five friends.
CaptainPresley - 12/13/2012, 9:20 AM
Phyllis Coates
Erica Durance
Margot Kidder
Noel Neil
Teri Hatcher
Kate Bosworth

My only reservation about MOS is Amy Adams. Don't get me wrong I think she's a great actress, I just hope it's not miscasting like Bosworth.
DukeAcureds - 12/13/2012, 10:02 AM
Kidder is, thus far, the definitive Lois Lane. Bosworth had a good classical look, but I agree with @VERISIMILITUDE; she will own it.
However if this is the first movie to not hae Noel Niel in it then I will shit a brick and personally deliver it to Snyder.
INFO - 12/13/2012, 10:12 AM
Amy Adams will own as Lois Lane.
Jollem - 12/13/2012, 10:35 AM
i thought this would be an interview with ms. adams wearing briefs and talking about lois. turns out, "brief interview" is not what i thought

i had me a little boy crush on hatcher's lois

MasterApoc81 - 12/13/2012, 1:20 PM

Carla Gugino would've been the perfect Lois.....10 yrs ago
Batsjoker - 12/13/2012, 5:35 PM
I liked Erica D. As Lois Lane. Sexy, talented younger lois lane. Idk we'll see what amy adams brings to the character. Movie is gonna be sick though, its a Watchmen movie with Superman! Its gonna be the Dark Knight Rises of 2013!
WildCard12 - 12/13/2012, 5:35 PM
As of right now erica durance is my favorite Lois lane freakin sexy as heck.
Batsjoker - 12/13/2012, 5:36 PM
Oh a pg-13 Watchmen that is.
silverdog - 12/13/2012, 7:35 PM
why not.. she already has more chemistry with cavill in just those two seconds than hathaway and bale in all TDKR.
SugarYumYum - 12/13/2012, 7:52 PM
Big fan of Adams and have as much (if not more)confidence she'll knock this performance out the park just like Hathaway did with Catwoman.
lntrn8 - 12/14/2012, 6:33 AM
@Vadakin - Dana Delaney, who can forget her calling Supes "Smallville"?!

Give her a chance guys. She has major acting chops & was nominated like 3 times for Best Supporting Actress.

Have any of you seen her in The Fighter? You know, that movie that Christian Bale won an Oscar? This gal has balls! If the script & Zack Snyder allowed it, she will own this role.
AUSSYACE - 12/14/2012, 8:43 PM
I THINK THAT SHE IS A GOOD CHOICE FOR LOIS LANE...AT LEAST SHE IS A BLOODY WOMAN AND A TWEENY TEEN LIKE THE NEW MJ CHOSEN FOR SPIDERFAILMAN...
