Empire Magazine has shared a new still from Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, giving us our best look yet at Will Poulter as the debuting Adam Warlock!

We did get a quick glimpse of Warlock in the teaser trailer, but this image marks our first time seeing the character's costume in its entirety.

Warlock's introduction was actually teased in one of Vol. 2's post-credits scenes, when Sovereign leader Ayesha created him to track down and take revenge on the Guardians. While it sounds like the team's destruction will remain his primary mission, director James Gunn hints that at some potential shades of grey to the mega-powerful being.

“It’s kind of more complicated than that,” he tells Empire. “But he’s definitely not a good guy. What we’re seeing is the infant form of Warlock, newly out of the cocoon, and he does not understand life very well. He’s basically a baby.”

A 6'3 baby with devastatingly destructive superpowers!

Gunn believes Warlock "could become a very important character" in the MCU going forward, and explains why he feels Poulter was the ideal choice for the role.

“People online were saying, ‘Oh, Tom Cruise should be Adam Warlock.’I wanted somebody who was youthful, and I wanted the person who had the dramatic chops and the comedic chops, not only for this movie but for what Marvel will use Adam Warlock for in the future.”

Check out the new still at the link below.

In Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

James Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter and Maria Bakalova.

Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Since he doesn’t have the soul stone, what’s in his forehead?

@Reginator - solar gem? Or was that what Vision had on his forehead in the comics?

@Reginator - Have you seen that Adventure Time episode where they try to extract Lumpy Space Princess' forehead star? lmao

@bkmeijer1 - yeah that’s vision stone in comics. Think they’re just gonna skip past warlock being tied to the soul stone tbh

@bkmeijer1 - I think that was the vision

@ShimmyShimmyYA @Reginator - gotcha. Could always give it to Warlock in the movies though I suppose

@ShimmyShimmyYA - that would be easier. Didn’t the stone corrupt him over time in the comics?

It's interesting looking back on eras of costuming and how they all stick to a certain style. This era is for sure the lines and patches.

Poulter looks great, though.

@oldnoname - Right, I noticed characters from completely opposite sides of the universe have the same costume designer

@Matchesz - lol yeah I remember wondering how Killmonger got his hands on something you'd find in guardians of the galaxy.

@oldnoname - That's something that bugs me with Marvel costume designers. Bucky's outfit in Infinity War was almost the same as Loki's from Ragnarok.

@SonOfAGif - It doesn't happen every time but it definitely messes with the diversity of the universe when it's apparent.

The design is fine, but I think it could've looked better. As of yet, all I see is Will Poulter in a 3D-printed costume, but perhaps his performance will make up for that.

For example, his design in the most recent game (which is so good btw) is much more interesting to me.

I think that Marvel Studio's art department should expand its horizons more and maybe hire different artists for different projects. A lot of times, the costumes seem like they were made by the same tailor, which doesn't convey the vastness and variety that the universe should encompass.

@Fares - agreed with everything you said here.

@Fares - Right. Like there's no real reason why all the Eternals have the same looking costumes as Adam Warlock.

bkmeijer1 - 1/16/2023, 2:49 PM
@Fares - I can see what you mean.

Also, that game [frick]ing ruled! Even though at face-value looked like it was just gonna copy the MCU, it managed to do its own thing in a glorious way
Fares
Fares - 1/16/2023, 2:53 PM
@bkmeijer1 - That game had no business being as good as it was. The combat wasn't all that impressive, but the character interactions and the story surprised the hell out of me. When I got to the end, I just didn't want it to end.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/16/2023, 5:37 PM
@Fares - 100% agreed. Thing that did help with the combat was that it was intuitive (atleast for me).

But yeah, I didn't want to stop playing either. And luckily for us, the game had that credits surprise in store for us, so that we could play a little longer.
Fares
Fares - 1/16/2023, 6:39 PM
@bkmeijer1 - Hahaha I remember that moment. I was hoping for something more, but then I gave up, and I got up to move my laptop (which I was playing on) to a different room. And there I was, caught off guard, holding my laptop in my arms while the final boss started throwing planets at me.

I don't know if the game did well enough for it to get a sequel, but boy, I will be very disappointed if it doesn't.
bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/17/2023, 3:47 AM
@Fares - I have no idea either how well it did commercially. Didn't help it was available on PS Plus soon after it's release too. Critically it was a success though

Poulter is one of the great twig to beefcake transformations in recent Hollywood memory.

I would've went for a more older actor for Warlock like Fassbender as depicted in this cool animated remake of Endgame taking more cues from the Infinity Gauntlet comic.

@Chaos200 - don't see fassbender bulking up and it will get worse since he's already in his 40s. Smart to cast young if you have a 10+ year plan.

Gauntlets and cape have an asgardian look to it. Still a good design though

Warlock should be a huge piece moving forward in the MCU.

I only hope they use him well, not just a disposable villain.

Warlock, Nova, Galactus, Silver Surfer, Star Fox, Remaining GotG.

We could have some epic cosmic stuff going on for years.

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/16/2023, 2:49 PM
@DocSpock - agreed. Hope we get Quasar and Annihilus in the next saga as well.
DocSpock
DocSpock - 1/16/2023, 2:56 PM
@bkmeijer1 -

Oh yeah!! Annihilus would be a fantastic villain to greet the Fantastic 4. Of course Doom will be getting naughty too, but I don't want him as the MCU FF first movie main villain.

bkmeijer1
bkmeijer1 - 1/16/2023, 5:39 PM
@DocSpock - I think they should wait with Annihilus until the next saga. So I don't want him in the first FF movie either, but instead someone like Mole Man.

As for Annihilus, I think Captain Marvel 3 could work to as an Annihilation Wave adaptation (like how Cap 3 did Civil War).
