Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has got off to a very strong start at the international box office, while the threequel's CinemaScore certainly seems to bode well for its chances of success in the U.S.!

While Rotten Tomatoes scores tend to be a deciding factor in whether people decide to watch newly released movies, CinemaScores offer a much better idea of what regular filmgoers think about a blockbuster like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3

The threequel's grade has now been revealed and it's nabbed an "A." That's the same as Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, proving people enjoyed this instalment just as much as James Gunn's first two instalments. As for how this will impact the movie's opening weekend in North America, it's currently still tracking for a solid $110 million debut.

However, with strong word of mouth, we'd guess it will hold up well in the weeks ahead rather than suffering the same steep drop as Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, for example.

Deadline also reports that, as of Thursday, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 had earned an impressive $35 million in a handful of international territories. They've also heard that the buzz surrounding the movie overseas is very positive, including in China. We should have those numbers to share with you soon!

In Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, our beloved band of misfits are looking a bit different these days. Peter Quill, still reeling from the loss of Gamora, must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own. A mission that, if not completed successfully, could quite possibly lead to the end of the Guardians as we know them.

Gunn writes and directs Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, which stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Karen Gillan, Pom Klementieff, featuring Vin Diesel as Groot, Bradley Cooper as Rocket, Sean Gunn, Chukwudi Iwuji, Will Poulter, and Maria Bakalova.

Kevin Feige is the producer and Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nikolas Korda, Simon Hatt, and Sara Smith serve as executive producers.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is now playing in theaters.

If somebody wanted to make the case that this is the best MCU film to date, I would not argue with them. Blown away.

@RafaelTorres - really? Interesting, I thought is was a solid 7 better than gotg2 and a above average MCU flick

@Taonrey - yeah I think that’s totally fair and I’m not expecting it to be everyone’s cup of tea. BUT I just found there to be such a depth to the writing that we don’t often see in films of this ilk, the action was top notch, the villain was just pure irredeemable savagery. A movie like Endgame is a triumph and a very special movie, but I think the fact that the Guardians have only ever existed with each other makes their journey and bond a lot more special.

Loved the movie. So much heart and fun. All very well balanced. Great CGI and amazing action sequences too. I think it is the best out of the trilogy. If you liked the privious two movies, you will enjoy this one too.

I've got to say, in this Saga, when the MCU delivered for me, it really over-delivered. No Way Home, Shang-Chi, this and Wakana Forever are all top 10 MCU for me.

***SPOILER question....

I've seen it twice but I still don't understand how Rocket's friends died. Were they shot by the guards before Rocket took them out or was there a kill switch in their bodies or gas or something that did it? I still don't know how I feel about those scenes in the movie, they are very messed up and I think go to far in the dark direction. Both times watching I was disgusted that Gunn and Disney created cute animals, gave them adorable personalities and then killed them off after a life of terrible torture and captivity. I always assumed Rocket's backstory was horrible, and it was important to the movie plot, but the addition of his friends stories might be too much. If this wasn't Disney MCU I would not have these concerns. Was wondering what others here think about it

@WarMonkey - They were shot by others, the kill switch only prevents them from using the med packs.....at least thats what I got from it.

This movie was simply fantastic. Anyone who worried about Gunn delivering with one foot out the door can stop worrying.(I admit I was kind of worried about that.)

My wife, who is a normie & not a comic book reader, loved it. The audience reaction was incredible. This was the most I have enjoyed an experience in the theater since Infinity War.

My New MCU top 5:

1) Infinity War
2) Winter Soldier
3) GotG 1
4) GotG 3
5) Civil War

@marvel72 -

Excellent list. All great movies. I had a hard time leaving Endgame, Iron Man, Spidey NWH, & Avengers 1 out of my top 5. Maybe I should made the list a top 10.

This will be the lowest grossing GOTG and is the worst reviewed.
Word of mouth seems mixed to slightly above average, but the violence and scenes of (cgi) animal cruelty will obviously scare away many families with smaller children. Add to that, it's another GOTG where Gunn chooses to murder large numbers of kids like in GOTG2, mainly off screen, that I think it'll drop off fast in week 2.

The question is, can this even turn a profit? With a $250 million dollar budget, plus marketing it would have to pull in around at least $625 worldwide to cover its' costs. With the summer competition coming up in the next few weeks and the potential of scaring away the kiddie audience, I think it's quite likely this is the first Guardians movie to not turn a profit, which would be another horrible sign for Marvel going forward.

Its a good movie.
I think audiencess also forgot that comic book movies could have good CGi, good performances, and an actual director behind the camera, so they probably were like "oh, yeah, I forgot comic book movies can be more than non-sensical nostalgia-bait with shitty CGi!"
Matchesz
Matchesz - 5/6/2023, 9:42 AM
Its like they put no creative effort in following the comics character designs this time with the high evolutionary. Kind of a slap in the face to Steve Ditko but if james gunn thinks he has better ideas than a legends work then f it ig .
SorceresSupreme
SorceresSupreme - 5/6/2023, 11:17 AM
@Matchesz - its an adaptation, not everything has to be exactly like the source material. the more we accept this, the less ppl will be bitching about anything and slowly stop the studios from trying to micromanage every decision to appease every spoiled person and therefore stop getting shitty products on and on

Thank god, GOTG Vol 3 saves the Marvel movies.

Gunn delivered this movie, put some brilliant stories, and put some heart o it despite a few dark stories in it. the joke is funny and the fight scene is good, it just Adam Warlock is just another Kenny Rosmore from "We're The Millers" attitude but with cosmic power.

Man.. the pissy little edgelord shits on this site have become insufferable. One of the best Marvel movies to date and their [frick]ing response almost swayed me..

Miss the time when me, teabag and the others would bully these bitches into crying and disappearing into their basements. Too much in our lives to pick up the batons again
