The plot was a mess, it was full of hooky Batman & Robin crap, the Peter and Gwen relationship being "off and on again" was tired and boring, the villains were rushed and goofy in this "realistic" Spider-Man movie, and YET this still managed to be watchable. Not sure how that's possible.
Pasto - 5/4/2014, 2:01 PM
FilmsFan - 5/4/2014, 2:02 PM
It's watchable but with elements of Amazing & LOTS of elements of pure awefulness!

Need another set of writers & director!

They're trying to making a Cinematic universe on 1 character & setting all the player up for next films instead of making ONE GOOD FVCKING FILM!
Which this is not.
Crugsy - 5/4/2014, 2:02 PM
No where near as bad as some folk are making out. But could have been better.
venomvsspidey11 - 5/4/2014, 2:05 PM
Good acting and visuals but the villains set up and motivation were horrible.
WinterSoldier33 - 5/4/2014, 2:05 PM
it was amazing
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:05 PM
it was really good and served its purpose in the Spider Man universe, but it could have been better.
SaxoWolf - 5/4/2014, 2:05 PM
HeathenHammer - 5/4/2014, 2:05 PM
This was Green Lantern bad. If rather watch Daredevil twice in a row
rebellion - 5/4/2014, 2:06 PM
awful imo
mbembet - 5/4/2014, 2:07 PM
tas 2 is just as bad as man of shit
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:07 PM
@venomvsspidey11, i disagree. Electro was the relatable character i have ever seen, because everyone can relate to his feelings of abandonment by his peers. Also, the Green Goblin felt monumental betrayal, which pretty much everyone has felt in their life. And Rhino doesn't count as part of the film, so, yeah.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:09 PM
@mbembet, Man of Steel was the reason i read DC comics in the first place if ever and i still see it as a classic. I take great umbridge to this offense.
zephyrrr - 5/4/2014, 2:11 PM
One of the biggest problems is Electro. Crap villain and campy by definition. So he can turn himself into electricity, yet he can't catch up to Spiderman, who is swinging by too fast? Please.

Electro is just a cartoonish villain. They should have eliminated him from the plot entirely, and focused on Harry Osborne, fully developing that arc.

As for the rest, too much familiar cheesy blockbuster territory (e.g., the little kid at the end...even Batman Begins had a little least IM3 did a send-up of the 'little kid' trope). And yet, it has some good moments, such as the very ending in the aftermath of *spoiler* Gwen's demise.

Some very strong moments, but unfortunately, Marc Webb is not a strong enough storyteller to bring it all together - and the scriptwriters made a convoluted, crammed mess of it.

Watchable (barely), but instantly forgettable.
boboMELOSHE - 5/4/2014, 2:13 PM
Loved it, Things were a bit rushed at the end but I thought it did a great job setting up future stories as well as tell one heck of a gwen/peter story.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:13 PM
@zephyrrr, this was intentional, so the film could establish a firm root in the 1960s era Spider Man. IN ADDITION, with all the Dark and overly-gritty heroes we will undoubtedly be getting in the next couple years, this film sets itself apart in that it satiates the earliest fans of spider-man whilst setting itself apart in the CBM community.
cbmf20 - 5/4/2014, 2:14 PM
this movie was almost as bad as batman & robin.

no narrative, rushed story arcs, clunky editing, and bad dialogue.

the only good this film had was casting dane deehan ,andrew garfields decent to good acting skills, emma stone, and the effects.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:14 PM
OH, in case you haven't seen it, Gwen Stacy dies. (just for those who haven't seen the movie yet)
Nate - 5/4/2014, 2:15 PM
I think this would be viewed as a much better movie if their was only one trailer released and it didnt show everything. Thats the major downfall of this movie...nothing was a surprise. If the trailers didnt reveal of the juicy stuff, the shock value of this movie would have been off the charts. overall i still really enjoyed the movie.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:15 PM
@cbmf20, and why am i wasting my time arguing with such vicious haters? WHY! those that hate this film have clearly seen next to none of it, just saying
Spideyfan11 - 5/4/2014, 2:15 PM
The highest voted rank is "spectacular" but there is an incredible amount of bitching in the comments? o.O how does that happen? As a dedicated spider-man fan, I for one loved this movie.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:16 PM
@Nate, Agreed
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:16 PM
@Spideyfan11, finally, a logical person in the comments!
willyburz - 5/4/2014, 2:16 PM
batman1216 - 5/4/2014, 2:18 PM
This movie is no where near as bad as Batman & Robin. It had moments of greatness and I now love Garfield as Spidey and feel his has captured the character in a way Tobey never had and I love those first 2 movies. It wasn't perfect and it was rushed at times, but there were some amazing elements that made me enjoy it immensely. I loved Peter and Gwen's relationship and the entire ending was great. I was genuinely moved. Even though Cap was the better movie overall, my love for Spidey and the emotional punch the movie had made me enjoy it just as much.

Boyle360 - 5/4/2014, 2:19 PM
Ugh I've always hated Josh's description of ratings. 'Amazing' and 'Spectacular' are virtually the same thing when defining a movie. 3 stars is not 'watchable'. 3 stars would be a 'good'. His rating systems have always been shit.
willyburz - 5/4/2014, 2:19 PM
Movie is frustrating. For every kick ass moment, there is a WTF moment
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:20 PM
@willyburz, its people like you that give awesome movies terrible reputations. "Thanks a ton!"
cbmf20 - 5/4/2014, 2:22 PM

even though I thought that rebooting the series so soon was unneeded I did like the first amazing spiderman and thought it had potential but I also saw problems.

and those problems showed up more in this movie than I thought they could.

Im sure the movie is enjoyable but it is not a good or really good film by any means sorry
2013venjix - 5/4/2014, 2:22 PM
Phenomenal. Even in 3D!!
Nate - 5/4/2014, 2:23 PM
@batman1216 yeah its irritating how many people are comparing this to Batman & Robin. One stupid movie critic compares it to that movie and now every troll on this website uses that comparison. To people that really think that, go back and watch batman & robin. This movie had GREAT moments in it and take away the trailers that spoiled everything, this would be a GREATER film.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:23 PM
@cbmf20, i agree with you, i really only loved this film because it was so different from everything we've been expecting. Every other CBM looks dark and gritty (besides GOTG) and almost depressing, but Amazing Spider Man 2 set itself up as a fun film that you didn't have to take too seriously.
TheDarkPassenger - 5/4/2014, 2:26 PM
Only part I liked was when he stopped that kid from being bullied and walked him home.

That part lasted maybe a minute. So a minute out of 142 minutes.

Jokes are corny. Electro is a cheesy villain, Rhino is...*shivers*...its like Jamie Foxx and Paul Giamatti weren't paying attention to what they were doing. And Andrew and Emma are a great on screen couple but it got a little suffocating after awhile.

Harry was well done, he should have been the only villain.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:28 PM
@TheDarkPassenger, why do i feel like the one person who actually enjoyed this film?
MatTaylorX - 5/4/2014, 2:28 PM
Some of you guys will just accept anything. I love Spidey but the film was pretty damn bad. Just be honest.
cbmf20 - 5/4/2014, 2:29 PM

comparing it to batman & robin is a bit mean but I tend to favor dark and gritty myself and fun movies once and a while but I just hope they try and settle somewhere in the middle. not on extremes opposites of what the previous movie did
Nate - 5/4/2014, 2:29 PM
^it was better than that crappy wolverine movie with a michael bay transformer at the end.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:30 PM
@MatTaylorX, IronConstantine68, trapped among a sea of haters, must fight his way of the abyss with his logic and cunning, whilst staying resilient against the teases of his opponents.
IronConstantine68 - 5/4/2014, 2:31 PM
@cbmf20, i wasn't saying i don't like dark and gritty. I ADORE films like that, but it can a bit annoying after a while.
