Last week I asked the CBM community which director they would like to see take the reigns of Iron man 3 in place of Jon Favreau. As usual, there was no shortage of responses. Directors names started flying and the debate began.

Now, I give you the most talked about and kicked around names from last weeks article for you to vote on. Who would the CBM community place in the directors chair for Iron Man 3 if it was up to us? Lets find out.

If Affleck does it he will want a major part in the movie like playing the villain or something.

Waylon@ honestly I don't think so, I am willing to bet if he did get the director’s chair that is where his focus would go. I don't think he would want a part especially after DD. I think he is smart enough to not taint that movie with the risk of his DD days coming back to bite him.

I don't care really, but I think Sunshine was an awesome movie. If Danny Boyle made it like that, I would be happy

Good stuff HAWKS! Some great directors up there, but if I had to make a realistic choice, it would be Duncan Jones.

Nice list, some names would never do it (like Nolan or Fincher) but there are many interesting choices in it. Five of those names are also in my dream list of directors for my movie.

@Waylon - I'd have to agree with Brashlight... I don't think Affleck would want to do that.

Boyle has also come out and said he HATES comic book movies. So I would be amazed if he took up the third film in an Ironman series.

My fave choice isn't even there :o((

Alfonso Cauron!

Mind you would love to see Duncan Jones' take. Probably be all cerebral and introspective! Oh yes!!

3. Christopher Nolan - It wouldn't be Ironman 3, it would be Ironman Reboots. Where a downtrodden Tony Stark finds himself stranded in China, but he's taken in by Liam Neeson and the Mandarin, only later to find out Liam Neeson WAS the Mandarin the whole time! Will Tony be able to save Goth...I mean...New York?

4. David Fincher - Ir3nman! Morgan Freeman stars as Rhodey. *SPOILER ALERT* The severed head of Pepper Potts is piloting the Crimson Dynamo's armor the whole time.

5. JJ Abrams - Ironman 3: Lens Flares Excelsior!

6. Ben Affleck - Is this trolling?

7. Brad Bird - The whole Ironman family gets armor...Tony, Pepper, Rhodey, Tony's deceased father Howard and introducing the lovable Irondog! A movie for the whole family involving Alcoholism and sexual harassment.

8. Alex Proyas - In Ironman 3, Ironman's suit will be made by Audi and Converse and Pepsico and every other scene will remind us of this. In-fact he'll be re-named Audiman.

9. Zack Snyder - We get a kick-ass panel for panel adaptation of the armor wars, but for some reason instead of an awesome explosion filled ending, a huge squid alien suddenly appears in New York.

15. Guillermo del Toro - Ironman versus non-canon monsters of Guillermo's creation. Too much awesome for any fanboy to hate how non-accurate it is.

17. Edgar Wright - Tony & Pepper finally hookup, but now Tony has to defeat her 7 evil exes...the Master's of Evil.

20. Louis Leterrier - The movie will be great, but won't sell too many tickets and will end with RDJ and Marvel being on opposite sides of the fence on many issues and RDJ will be replaced by Mark Ruffalo in future installments.

Seriously, my vote goes to Shane Black. He's an astounding writer/director. I could watch Kiss, Kiss Bang, Bang every day until I died and still enjoy it.

Fincher - would be amazing and my choice but won't happen.

2nd choice would be Duncan Jones - Not sure how he'd handle big budget, but I THINK he'd do great.

Another name I'd throw in there is Guy Ritchie.

I like Peter Berg and Danny Boyle a ton.

You fanboys need to get JJ and Nolans dick!

Some great directors up there, but #1 is my #1. District 9 was just so freaking good, I'd love to see Blomkamp take a shot at it. Del Toro and Wright are still my favorite directors, but I want them on other projects.

Hey, if not Iron Man, give Blomkamp a shot at a Deathlok movie!

The right director must know:

1. The conflict of philosophy between Tony Stark and The Mandarin, orderly freedom vs chaotic oppression.
2. How to make a good hand to hand fight scene with person in robot suit.
3. How to end the trilogy with a bang, with a hint of series continuation a few years away.

How about Adam McKay? He's in talks to direct "The Boys" so he's comfortable in CBM territory, he's friends with Favs, having done script work on "Elf," and his love for improvisation would mesh well with RDJ's sensibility.

We've seen him handle legitimate action sequences in "Talledega Nights" and "The Other Guys" (which featured Sam Jackson) and although you might argue that he's only known for his comedy work, Favreau primarily was, too.

Just give us someone who can shoot the action sequences. They don't need a name. There will be a lot of studio involvement with the next movie. I say let Robert Downey Jr do his thing and let the studio and the writers determine the track he must follow. The director should just show up. I dont think Iron Man 3 will help further any of those directors careers listed above. A definite hit but none of those directors will want to get involved at this point. They need a no name with something to prove, or just go with Joss Whedon. At least we will have some idea of how RDJ works with him in a few years?

Oh yeah, I all so liked the idea of Adam Mckay. I was really impressed with the action sequences in The Other Guys but I was really impressed when considering the context.I would like to think that even if he would work well, he would not do it. If anything I would like to see him adapt something else rather than take over this franchise at this point. I would have liked to see him do the most recent take on Spiderman. More comical in a different sense than that sh*t in number three, a little more stripped down. A Superhero in highschool? We need a good sense of humor to take it too seriously in the first place

Give it to Ben Afleck and let him put a little Daredevil cameo in it, working together with Tony Stark looking for the Black Panther to help fight Mandarin.

Out of theses choices, my vote goes to Shane Black or Gore Verbinski. Both are very talented in writting fun summer movies, with witty characters and their tone would match what Favreau had done.

Most of the other directors have done other superhero movies, and I don't want the same old thing. We've seen what Nolan, Brananagh, Synder, Letterier, and Bird have done with superheroes. Let's see some new blood and a new style, some new direction. There are plenty of other good directors out there, why go for the same old stuff.

Overview:
Neil Blomkamp - District 9 was pretty good with its special effect on the aliens and weapons; but I feel he is better suited for more 'space' related things than Iron Man.
Joss Wheddon - He is doing the Avengers movie, so he can also do Iron Man (unless of course he is just only focusing on the Avengers in terms of Marvel Adaptions).
Christopher Nolan - Nah, he is busy with Batman and Superman. Plus Iron Man might lose the charm he had have in the last 2 movies.
David Fincher - Never saw Se7en, but from what I heard, he might not be the right choice.
JJ Abrams - Better suited for a rebooted Fantastic Four then Iron Man film.
Ben Afflek - Indifferent with him, The Town was good but I remember Daredevil not being done well to fan standards. So I am not sure.
Brad Bird - Love The Incredibles, he is a good choice for Iron Man 3.
Alex Proyas - I will go with him as long as the script is good.
Zack Snyder - Like Nolan, he is busy with the Man of Steel. So, no.
Kenneth Barnagh - Thor looks awesome, it head alot of sci-fi and fantasy elements to it; problem is, he is doing Thor and the type of storytelling he is doing wouldn't transition well with Iron Man mythos.
Duncan Jones - Never saw Moon.
Gareth Edwards - Saw trailers and overviews of Monsters, but didn't see the actual movie. Got nothing to say for him doing Iron Man.
Gore Verbinski - Enjoyed his work, I think he is the perfect fit. Espicially the fact he worked with Disney before.
Shane Black - Not sure.
Guillermo del Toro - He is pretty much fantasy and horror (plus I think he is still doing the Incredible Hulk tv show). So he won't do for Iron Man.
Danny Boyle - Did good with Sunshine; and who knows, maybe Captain America might appear in Iron Man 3 since Boyle did work with Chris Evans before. Than again, he might not work out as director . . . I don't know.
Edgar Wright - Too busy with Ant-Man; seriously, appealing a guy who shrinks, grows and uses cool gadgets to a modern world is tough these days. He is better off doing Ant Man than Iron Man.
Peter Berg - Nah; Rundown was good but no on him doing Iron Man.
Katheryn Bigalo - She might work out, its not every day you get a female director doing a super hero movie.
Louis Lettier - Indifferent on him.
Matthew Vaughn - Pros: he did Kick-Ass and Stardust. Con: he also did X-Men: First ASS.

My top 3 picks:
3.Brad Bird - I enjoyed the Incredibles, it is like the perfect super hero movie. I am up for him doing the movie Iron Man. Though, he seems like the type to only do animated features so he is iffy.
2.Ben Afflek - He is a wild card here, the movie can go either way with this guy. So who knows, maybe Afflek will do good on Iron Man.
1.Gore Verbinski - He is definately the best choice since the main plot for Iron Man 3 is basically Iron Man vs the Mandarin. Pirates was a great fantasy film, and Iron Man needs a director that can introduce the Mandarin so why no this guy; I think he is perfect for the next movie.

Shaman: Sorry it took so long, I have been a busy little bee this last week.

While there are not many Directors involved in this POLL that I would not be happy with, I have to disagree with TheLois about Abrams. He took long standing, classic characters that nobody wanted to see redone or re envisioned or messed with at all and he made them believable again. He pleased the nay saying fans and gained many more in the process. He updated characters that were near and dear to many peoples heart and he did so with style.

He is my first vote.

Ditto to Hawks, except I'm just desperate to see Blomkamp do more (I suspect the guy may be a Del Toro level visionary)Abrams is number to. Abrams is a safer choice, however. Tonally, Star Trek is very close to Iron Man, I'd say.

While JJ Abrams has done many epic things I don't think he would do it. I just can't see him doing this. I would love JJ to direct this or any cbm, but for this i voted for Shane Black. I can see his style working really well within this universe.
