What's it like playing the title character in a (BIG) movie like this, and seeing your picture everywhere?

My ego loves it! (Laughing) It's great man. There's such a huge struggle at the beginning of my career, and who's to say where it goes, but... I think too, its just the work you put in. At the end of the day its not like I'm looking back saying, hey, I had a billboard. Whatever. It's the work I put in, and THAT's what I'm most proud of. You know? For sure.

So, you've been Gambit, and you've been John Carter. Are there any other heroes that you want to be?

Chon was quite fun in "Savages" (laughing). A different type of hero, but, um, no. You know, I never set out to be any of these guys. That's not how I pick my roles. It's all about who you're working with and the character you're portraying, and if there's substance to that. So. And being better at the end of the day for doing the gig. So, um, I'd do it all over again. I'm not on the phone with my team going, Kay, go through Marvel comic books and lets pick out another guy. (laughing)

Why not? There are a few left.

Not for me though. I'm done with it.

You mean you're NOT going to do it if they want you to play Gambit again?

I don't think so. We'll see. I mean, my plate is so full, and I'm excited to go gritty again. And we'll see what happens with this next job, if I get it, but. It'll be fucking gritty man.

Nobody asked what this "gritty" role was about. And I doubt he could've answered the question if we did--seeing how he wasn't sure if he was going to get it, but it must be something good if he's not interested in playing Gambit in his own spin-off.

Stay tuned to ComicBookMovie.com for more of our interviews with the stars and creatives of John Carter!

From Academy Award®--winning filmmaker Andrew Stanton comes "John Carter"—a sweeping action-adventure set on the mysterious and exotic planet of Barsoom (Mars). "John Carter" is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

Starring Taylor Kitsch, Lynn Collins and Willem Dafoe, Mark Strong, Bryan Cranston, James Purefoy, Dominic West, Thomas Haden Church and Ciarán Hinds. John Carter is set to hit theatres on March 9!

Not exactly a bad thing
MarVell - 2/24/2012, 9:10 AM
Too bad, his portrayal of Gambit could use some work, especially the accent, but other than that, his performance as Gambit was decent and the only thing I enjoyed about X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Ha1frican - 2/24/2012, 9:12 AM
He ruined him so good...
PaulRom - 2/24/2012, 9:17 AM
Yeah I thought he was decent as Gambit, not perfect but I liked it. He was just in a crap movie.
Though, I don't think a Gambit solo film would work.
GUNSMITH - 2/24/2012, 9:30 AM

Charliee13 - 2/24/2012, 9:47 AM
Can't say I'm too gutted he won't play gambit again, he hardly set the world on fire with his portrayal in wolverine.
NateBest - 2/24/2012, 9:53 AM
Did everyone miss the part around 1:30 where he said "Not for me though. I'm done with it"?

He then follows up with "We'll see"...
MrReese - 2/24/2012, 10:02 AM
He was ok as Gambit. He prolly just needed more screen time but he just didn't do shat 4 me.I think he was just thrown in there 4 the [frick] of it.N Gambit is a bad ass that needs movie love done properly.
126thst - 2/24/2012, 10:02 AM
That works out perfectly, cause no one wants to see you play anymore comic book characters..
CrowPirate1 - 2/24/2012, 10:05 AM
Gritty? Someone must have used that word around him, so now he says it a lot.

As opposed to acting ability, actual character depth, or talent.
joeker - 2/24/2012, 10:08 AM
he werent that good as gambit & the lines he had were shit anyway so i dont see how anyone should be gutted by it
InFamouslyCool - 2/24/2012, 10:10 AM
Thank god. That Gambit sucked (Not all his fault).
BIGBMH - 2/24/2012, 10:27 AM
As mediocre as Wolverine turned out, I'm not surprised that he's not dying to play another comic book character.
KingEmperor - 2/24/2012, 10:39 AM
Out of all the X-Men, I think Gambit is the hardest to pull off.
Necroxide - 2/24/2012, 10:39 AM
LOL I know HE would Play gambit in a gambit movie!!! I can feel him ..
he is happy with Jhon carter cuz is the star ;)
Necroxide - 2/24/2012, 10:41 AM
I nevers see somone who dont like the wolverine movie ... so I say [frick] the FALS heros movie
all movie and books inspired by super heros should die befor the marvel and dc one ;)
Tainted87 - 2/24/2012, 10:45 AM
@KingEmperor
Maybe, but maybe not. I think Hugh Jackman could have done it if he was younger, probably would have been better at Gambit than Wolverine.
JackSass - 2/24/2012, 10:48 AM
Gambit sucks
Necroxide - 2/24/2012, 10:51 AM
hum I se no sens i what you said XD
Shaman - 2/24/2012, 11:08 AM
Gavin Hood was a horrendous director so until i see how "bad" Kitsch is in John Carter, i still say he did great with what he was given and how he was directed to play Gambit. You can't make a horse drink water but you can sure as hell bring him to it. Hood [frick]ing killed that movie on his own, regardless how much "hands on" the studio was.
Panthro0 - 2/24/2012, 11:21 AM
Gambit Spin-off? Not gonna happen anyhow. Not that cool of an individual character to bring in the Quan ($$)
Minghagz - 2/24/2012, 11:36 AM
I'm done with Fox making x-men movies.

Marvel Studios > Fox studios
BmanHall - 2/24/2012, 11:40 AM
@ Talontd: Nailed it.
Necroxide - 2/24/2012, 11:51 AM
Its sad cuz It would have been realy cool to see gambit in First class 2...
fattieacid - 2/24/2012, 11:57 AM
I personally think he should be gambit ---> http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/684/hollowaygambit.jpg/
Necroxide - 2/24/2012, 12:00 PM
wow I agree @fattieacid
hoodedjester - 2/24/2012, 1:26 PM
meh - his performance wasn't that great so who cares
jjmeylar - 2/24/2012, 2:30 PM
Thank God! I don't want that guy anywhere NEAR Remy, again.
SpiderSurfer - 2/24/2012, 2:34 PM
wow fattieacid i agree too but who the hell is he.... and to everyone else.. when x-men 3 was being made the writers and producers and director agreed that gambit was to important to just throw into there cluster[frick] of mutants he deserve a more important role and to anyone who says hes not as popular or important.... suck a fat one he needs to be in a future movie with either this dude working on his accent and a better costume or the guy fattieacid chose
SpiderSurfer - 2/24/2012, 2:41 PM
hes got the look just not the acting chops or the accent and the costume sucked.... gambit fans are serious about the charecter when they finnaly bring him back to a movie it just needs to be done right he should be gritty LMFAO
CasualFanatic - 2/24/2012, 3:20 PM
He didn't say, "I'm done with Gambit," but I get the sense from his other interviews that he would only be interested in a Gambit movie if it was all about Gambit, and the tone was dark. If Fox doesn't want to go that way, he won't be back. But honestly, they didn't give any characters much of a chance to be interesting in that movie except for Wolverine and Sabertooth, so I figure they can cast anyone in any of those roles and it would be fine.

Besides, I view that whole movie as an alternate reality thing anyway. Who cares who does any of those roles?
fattieacid - 2/24/2012, 3:24 PM
@hoodedjester thats josh holloway, the guy from Lost
mgeoff88 - 2/24/2012, 4:07 PM
It's kind of hard to understand, but it does sound like he's done with the character.

If Fox makes a gritty Gambit movie, I think they would go with a different actor anyway.

Taylor Kitsch is a good actor. He was just miscast as Gambit.
sarahsatire - 2/24/2012, 4:13 PM
Gettin' a little big for his britches, eh?
Toxyk - 2/24/2012, 4:36 PM
I'm SOOO glad he's done with Gambit, cause now that Josh Hollaway is finished with Lost, he'd be perfect to play Remmy
