I liked DREDD!

Beat the ass outta that Stallone version :P

Pity they had a limited budget though, but what they did with it was awesome!!!

Also very close to his comic book roots a big plus!

Cover looks gr8 to the Blu-Ray!

That movie really sucked. I prefer Stallones Dredd. Its more entertaining than this shit. Instead watching this again I would watch the few scenes with Stallone and Rob Schneider the whole time, but its my opinion so.

Thi film was not as good as people claimed. It got repetitive and silly toward the middle, and the psychic character was logically inconsistent, which throws off some of the fun when watching the film ,because of how lazily things are thrown into the film. Anyone who saw the raid redemption will be disappointed in this film especially if they have heard the great reviews people keep giving it. The raid balanced repetition and excitement much better than this film. Plus the cinematography looked cheap (partially budgetary reasons for which I will not hold against the film).

Just watched this shitty movie last night.

Resuming: An ashamed copy of The Raid: Redemption starring Judge Dredd.

Some good images in slo-motion and only. Low budget, bad script and bad acting.

DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME!!!

hahaha dion, our first disagreement, idk man to me it got pretty draggy at times. I usually love these types of flicks but this one didn't do much for me besides some cool kills. Expendables 2 was fun, was it a great movie? no but it was a fun throwback. Cant wait for the new mad max!

Talking out of your ass Ancar.Dredd went into production long before The Raid was released so yes, I won't waste any more time with your badly written ignorant shitty response.

@darkbeefstakes

Cinematography looked cheap? Do you even know what cinematography [frick]ing means?

The movie had great picture frames and lots of interesting and artistic shots set with great composition - even better than The Avengers and The Dark Knight Rises in my honest opinion. The acting was not as good as it could have been but Karl Urban topped everything with his Dredd attitude even if it was slightly overacted.

This movie deserved better. I am hoping to see a sequel - even if the Box Office numbers are ridiculously low.

Definitely a favorite of 2012, its a must-see in HD (much like Total Recall... dvd quality just doesnt do justice). I was kind of let down by the vocals of Dredd himself, but his physical movements and scowl was pretty on point. Its such a shame it did so poorly in the box office, though I understand why. There needed to be a lot more marketing for this, and while it doesnt quite reach to an amazing story, the visuals were fantastic and the sequences were top-notch. MaMa wasnt as good as I was hoping for though :\

COmparing this film with raid redemption is completely accurate not because the settign is the same ( which it is not considering one is in the future?) but because the story is identical ( a drug dealer who runs a big apartment building sends a bunch of henchmen to kill the invading "cops". The cops then fight the henchmen until the end of the movie where they kill the lead dealer person. Identical.

People telling me my opinion is irrelevant because of my avatar, while there avatar clearly displays bias for the movie they are commenting on is the same premise [frick] tard.

This film was simple, and repetitive. I was looking forward to it. I watched it and loved the beginning, and when the apartment went into lock down I was pumped to wach dredd (who was a complete bad ass throught the film) kick ass. And it was cool. The irst few set pieces were creative. But then they ran out of ideas. The machine gun part was cool, then turned silly pretty quick. The reading minds part was cool, although th eediting and cinematography was cheap (over lit, poor choice of lens (ie they were not shooting at the optimal range hence the tons of grain that I am betting was not an "artistic choice" You wanna argue about cinematography watch "The road to perdition" that is great cinematography Dredd looked cheap hell DIstrict 9 had a lower budget and still looked better than dredd and they shot that film with [frick]ing cheap sony camcorders, that also includes 28 days later which was shot on cheap panasonic dv cam and looked tons better) Baclk to the psychic, This scene also completely screwed any scenes later involving the psychic because it made no sense, she could just jump into anybody's mind. I liked the movie, but it was far from great.

About people tellign me i am wrogn for saying this movie is logically inconsistent while I have an avatar of Chris Nolan, you people are the most ignorant simple minded short attention span sob's. You say that because of one movie the guy made, a movie that people scrutinize too much anyway. The man wrote a film backwards, wrote about dreams within dreams, and did it all with some of the tightest plot driven story telling ever. As for the dark knight rise whther you believe the film has a ton of "plot holes" or not. The film is not logicaly inconsistent, its just a matter of the logic of the charcters themselves begin flawed. Sure they could have detonated the bomb, but the characters DO explain why they do not, whether there excuse for not detonating the bomb is lazy writing or just poor logic on part of the CHARCTERS THEMSELVES is besides the point. BAnes revolution was just a ploy to inspire gotham in order to inspire despair ( as explained by Bane in the pit) WHther his plan makes sense to a logical thinking person does not matter as long as it makes to the character since it is the character who is implementing the plan. The dark knight rise is never repetitive, not one scene in the film is the same or even similar to the one before it.

But you short sighted folk have made up your minds, and no argument will ever sway you. But, I liked dredd, I thought dark knihgt rises was great. I think i thoroughly explained why I THINK dredd is just mediocre. If you cannot except that then so be it, but stop making ignorant comments so I dont get all riled up and have to write another fUAKing essay.

Alex Garland wrote the script for Dredd in 2008/2009 well before The Raid was even a concept. Its called a coincidence.
And don't get get all contemptuous dude. I don't think anyone is looking forward to you attempting (and failing) to construct a coherent essay again.

@foom

WHy does it matter when each film was written. If Dredd came out before The raid, i would still say the Raid was a better film. I never said Dredd stole its premise. I simply stated they had similar stories and The raid executed it better, imo. You obviously do not understand simple logic. As for the essay, it was never meant to be cohesive and I mainly called it an essay as a joke, considering how much time I wasted stroking my own ego and writing a useless comment that isn't about to cure cancer. In defense of its poor structure, I was trying to respond to the mass amount of criticism my little comment, about the few issues I had with the film, received. However, I did find your last sentence funny (not sarcasm)It was a clever knock.
KnobGoblin
KnobGoblin - 12/28/2012, 12:43 AM
Also, to simply compare Dredd to The Raid just shows a serious lack of film knowledge. Both movies owe a debt to John Carpenter's Assault on Precinct 13, which itself was an urbanized take on Rio Bravo. Hollywood recycles the same old plots, always has, always will. Hell, The Avengers was The Dirty Dozen of superhero flicks, and The Dark Knight Rises was Escape From New York. There is no such thing as an original idea in Hollywood. ROBOCOP, as well as Mad Max were both themselves ripoffs of Judge Dredd, and both went on to become classics in their own right.
darkbeefstakes
darkbeefstakes - 12/28/2012, 12:45 AM
Just realized i didn't answer why I wrote a long comment: I was trying to respond as quickly as possible as to not waste to much time, but wound up writing a few paragraphs of rants because of my own narcissistic obsession.
darkbeefstakes
darkbeefstakes - 12/28/2012, 12:48 AM
But i am comparing dredd to the raid, it does not display lack of film knowledge. It should not matter what other films have that same plot. I feel Dredd and Raid are a fair comparison, being they both were released in the same year and are similar in plot. So, I compared them. The same way people compare avengers to tdkr despite them being completely different and only basing the comparison on the fact they were released the same year and are both comic book related.
darkbeefstakes
darkbeefstakes - 12/28/2012, 12:51 AM
You answer your own argument. If there is no such thing as an original idea in Hollywood, then you proved to yourself that it is free reins to compare anything to anything regardless of films that came before it.
darkbeefstakes
darkbeefstakes - 12/28/2012, 12:53 AM
Not to mention escape form new yokr is kind of a stretch when comparing it to tdkr. Id say tdkr is mroe like last samurai than escape form new york. And the avengers was more like the untouchables.

darkbeefstakes - 12/28/2012, 12:56 AM
the untouchables meets seven samurai.
KnobGoblin
KnobGoblin - 12/28/2012, 12:59 AM
The Raid could just as easily be compared to Die Hard too, which it was when it came out. This is nothing new in Hollywood. For every Die Hard there is a Speed, for every Rambo a Commando. Armageddon/Deep Impact, Point Break/The Fast and the Furious etc...
