Guillermo del Toro to Direct Justice League Dark Movie After All?

Guillermo del Toro to Direct Justice League Dark Movie After All?

Remember that Justice League Dark movie that del Toro was supposedly attached to and that was later put on hold? Well, it's apparently still in the mix of DC properties ready to get the big screen treatment. See what the director had to say.

Earlier this week, Guillermo del Toro confirmed a sequel for his 2013 movie, Pacific Rim, as well as an animated series to go along with the "franchise". He also mentioned other later projects he planned on working on, including Justice League Dark.

As of late 2012, del Toro began work on Justice League Dark, giving it the working title of “Dark Universe” in January 2013. From then, he has continued work on the project, stating he would finish it after promoting his other movies, such as Pacific Rim and Crimson Peak. However, Del Toro then stated that he was still waiting for approval for the movie from DC and Warner Bros.

Del Toro has also expressed interest in connecting the new nbc show Constantine to JLD, as he had intended for the character to appear in his movie before the show was announced, stating:

“We talked about it at DC and Warners, and I feel confident that the two properties can exist at the same time. I think that DC is trying to create a great universe of characters, and expand it and make it clear to the audience that it’s a landscape of characters, and not just one that’s dependent on one or two characters.”

From then, however, DC has announced its other properties getting the live-action treatment to expand its "DCU", including the sequel to Man of Steel, 2016’s Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice, and also Shazam! So along with his Pacific Rim announcement, del Toro stated that he would finish up JLD after his 2015 movie, Crimson Peak.

What do you think? Do you believe the future of this movie is still bleak? Comment below.

Comic newbie here, but are these some kind of anti-heroes or a story from the point-of-view of the villains or what?
HulkOnion - 6/27/2014, 2:52 PM

JimGordonStache - 6/27/2014, 3:09 PM

A group of antiheroes that deal with supernatural things.
duncboy - 6/27/2014, 3:13 PM
Swamp Thing deserves his own movie, he's boss as hell. Last issue when he totally put Aquaman in his place was da-shiz
MrBlackJack - 6/27/2014, 3:22 PM
At this point, it looks like it'll be a while before JLD.
Mrsinister - 6/27/2014, 3:23 PM
Justice league dark would be great to see after Constantine in finished up. I would love to see Constantine be a part of dcu

We are waiting

I love the smell of bullshit in the morning.

Even though I'm not familiar with JL Dark, I'd still see the movie though.

AlphaMasterFlex - 6/27/2014, 3:58 PM
This seems like speculation based on previous remarks from last year but I'd hope this takes priority over Pacific Rim 2. Also I endorse BatmanHeisenbergs prediction list but over a Wonder Woman sequel I'd take a Green Lantern Corps movie.
AlphaMasterFlex - 6/27/2014, 3:59 PM
With Hal Jordan & John Stewart.
AlphaMasterFlex - 6/27/2014, 4:01 PM
Also I'd take Hellboy 3 or At Mountains of Madness ahead of Pacific Rim 2.
MrSotoMan - 6/27/2014, 4:03 PM
I hate to say this, but he is a giant procrastinator.

I will wait till I actually see something official, he just says things just to say things.

Of course, he would LOVE to do it, but the problem I have with him is that he sugar coats everything out there, which makes me believe he procrastinates a lot more.

He is a good director, just don't know what is happening with him lately. Give him a drama, give him a straight horror movie, just stopping giving him action because obviously he has no idea how to balance drama and action in one movie.
DeusExSponge - 6/27/2014, 4:04 PM
I hope that this reinvigorates his interest in Hellboy 3 and that the studio that's suppose to give it the go also sees the potential!

But on topic, if this and the other movie rumors happens to be true. Then damn, WB/DC is going all out and hoping to get a home run!

DeusExSponge - 6/27/2014, 4:28 PM
AlphaMaster - Honestly I believe that we'll never see At The Mount of Madness. Which is rather unfortunate, because I was hoping to see how good ole' del Toro was going to bring everything to life!
Snotzo - 6/27/2014, 4:42 PM
Won't happen in this decade.
DrunkenNukem - 6/27/2014, 5:09 PM
@duncboy...Swamp Thing comics are the most well written and bizarre ones, but its better to show him along with the others...

The Spectre, Dr Fate, Constantine deserve their own movie as well
Jollem - 6/27/2014, 6:34 PM
can not wait. this is gonna be so good
YeezusWept - 6/27/2014, 6:55 PM
I'd love to see a Swamp Thing movie before JLD.
BlackIceJoe - 6/27/2014, 9:15 PM
I think it can come out in 2018. The reason why I say that is because the rumor is Man of Steel 2 comes out that year. So right now that leaves room for two more movies. Justice League: Dark can be the big movie for Christmas. If Pacific Rim 2 comes out in 2017 that gives Guillermo time to make JLD for 2018. But if it's also quicker then Guillermo can make the film then 2019 will work. But I would like 2018 more. I personally want a JLD movie over the main JL.
Ranger14 - 6/27/2014, 9:28 PM
It would be cool, but I'm not going to hold my breath on this one.
Wolf38 - 6/27/2014, 9:53 PM
I've always liked Zatanna.

Anyway, at least there is a normal Justice League film confirmed now. Before, anytime this del Toro JL Dark project came up in rumors, it seems a little absurd considering that the main JL wasn't even there itself.
Demongod20 - 6/27/2014, 9:58 PM
If Dark Universe aka Justice League Dark gets release after Justice League, I can't see Warner Bros. actually naming the movie Justice League Dark now.
Braveandthebold - 6/27/2014, 10:54 PM
You know I've been meaning to tell you this @Snotzo .... I love your profile gif, Chris Pratt from Parks and recreation is always nice.
McGee - 6/27/2014, 10:54 PM
As much as I would love to see this...

I'm hoping for another entertaining real life drama like the one with Edgar Wright and Marvel Studios. Repeatedly reading headlines like "So-and-so leaves Ant-Man" made me smile like a child watching Wile E. Coyote try to capture the Road Runner.
MightyZeus - 6/27/2014, 10:57 PM
Please work on the film soon Del Toro.

I'm really looking forward to Justice League Dark more than the Justice League.
Battabing - 6/27/2014, 11:35 PM
When it comes to Del Toro you just have to wait until WB announces it. The guy's got massive project-related ADD.

He's got his fingers in so many pies you wonder how he gets anything done.
loki668 - 6/27/2014, 11:42 PM
Make it HAPPEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
mgeoff88 - 6/27/2014, 11:56 PM
I was wondering what was going on with JLD. I guess he needs to finish the script before DC/WB decides to greenlight JLD.

This movie could be amazing, if done right.
TheGoddamnPeel - 6/28/2014, 3:17 AM
So hang on.

JLD has been in development hell for ages, and Del Toro has always been a one movie type of guy of sorts.

But he's just announced Pacific Rim 2. So what the hell is he going to be doing first?

Doubt this movie is coming at all.
Null - 6/28/2014, 4:09 AM
Something doesn't seem right about this.
