I saw this tweet from M. Night Shyamalan yesterday (in reply to this tweet) and also this tweet today, but I guess most people missed the significance... or are simply in shock.
Joe Farina: What's the next project after AE? Or not even thinking about that yet? lol
Shyamalan: Deciding between 3. One I’ve already written and 2 that are just in outline form. They are all fighting in my heart right now.
Gee... what could possibly be the script he has already written... Can anybody guess?

FYI, these snapshots were taken from the picture-in-picture documentary in The Last Airbender Blu-ray. Near the start of the end credits, M.Night talks about the sequel and then cuts to this short clip of him working on the script for The Last Airbender 2 while flying over to Greenland with the cast and crew. Yes, it is already known that M.Night confirmed the existence of the script while promoting the release of the first movie.

Since Paramount makes the final decision on the sequels, this is a good indication that a sequel is coming, with or without M.Night. I hope he returns to direct, lest we get a repeat of Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. Even then, the final product and reactions can't be worse than the other movie, can it?

Anywho... the project that he has "already written" is definitely The Last Airbender 2. Unless of course... he has already shot that movie.

What a tweeeeest!

If Paramount is smart, they will not let this happen. The franchise is just getting back on its feet with Legend of Korra.

Ur actually hoping he returns for the sequel...u have seen the film, correct?

I am a huge fan of the show, as are many of us, and when we heard that the film was being made and saw the trailers i was as excited as anyone familiar with Avatar: The Last Airebender...but man, what a let down when it was actually released. He basically, single handedly, bastardized the mythology of this great show and doesnt deserve to do any sequels to it.

...Oh and u wont have to worry about the sequel turning out as bad as MK Annihalation if they get a new director...Shyamalan already did that in just the first film, imagine how much worse its gonna get if he keeps at it.

Hey, if you don't want it, don't watch it. Nobody is forcing you too. Besides, how else do you think they are financing The Legend of Korra? In life, you take the good with the bad.

Shyamalan needs to stick to doing his wacky mystery movies with the plot twists at the end...even those have gotten stale.

Oh it was bad alright buddy, so bad that even the creators of the show didnt bother going to the premier of the film

@Bane2099 You are sadly mistaken.

Run away, Simba. Run. Run away, and never return...

I forgot about this film, and the absolute curiosity as to why M. Night still gets work. Sure his early stuff is really good "Unbreakable" but he has twisted us all far too much.

I liked the Last Airbender. What's wrong with it, other than the characters' races being changed?
WeekendAvenger - 9/20/2012, 3:05 PM
what idiot thought a live-action avatar movie would be good they need to make an amazing animated movie set between ATLA and Korra. It would be beautiful.

@HavocPrime The thing with Shyamalan is that he's a very capable director and he's good with coming up with concepts for movies. The problem is that his actual writing comes off like he only did one draft then turned it in and said he went through more than one. He needs to just come up with concepts and find more capable writers to flesh it out. Lady in the Water, for example could've been great if he had gotten Neil Gaiman to do the script or someone who is better able to tell that kind of story. And he needs a new casting director or something because his casting after Signs completely fell apart.

I know Night because I worked with him for After Earth. I think AE will be good. Very good performances. Hopefully this will help the movies he picks. I'm hoping to be apart of one of them.

i've never cared for popular opinion and i think shyamalan is a pretty good director
Gamester76 - 9/20/2012, 8:02 PM
The biggest problems with The Last Airbender are:
1. Noah Ringer, who played Aang, was the only good actor in that film. Shyamalan had no grasp on the characters at all.
2. Shyamalan also never quite had a grasp on the epic story, cramming all of the first season of the show into a scant 100+ minutes, including credits, and the film suffers for it, skipping over entire sections of essential backstory.

The sad thing is this could potentially be one of the greatest stories told on screen if done right, which means reboot. In my opinion each book should be 3(if not more) movies per book. Make Aang about 17-19ish and everyone else in the story more age appropriate without getting too far from the crowd that made this such a well known story. Plus then you can have a love story without it being creepy. I thought the bending was pretty good could have been better but the problem was the character development. GO BY THE TV SHOW THERE IS A REASON SO MANY PEOPLE LOVE IT. MAKE THE UNCLE FAT AND FUNNY, PRONOUNCE THE NAME CORRECTLY. YOU COULD PRETTY MUCH COPY THE MOVIE EXACTLY LEAVING A FEW FILLER EPISODES OUT AND RAKE IN BILLIONS OF DOLLARS.
azn197 - 9/21/2012, 12:44 AM
if he has anything to do with the next air bender movie i will donate to anyone who tries to pirate the movie so the company can lose their money since they lost their minds letting him near the project
azn197 - 9/21/2012, 12:44 AM
he needs to go back to Signs, Unbreakable and such. those movies i think were a work of art
