G.I. Joe Given the Green Light; Go Joe!

G.I. Joe Given the Green Light; Go Joe!

Yesterday we heard disturbing news linking George Clooney to the proposed G.I. Joe project. Today, a relief, and good news, for the fan favorite.

First of all, for all those of us who were just that little frightened that George Clooney was being lined up to play Duke in the movie, IGN have reported that is not so. So thankfully, our movie can go ahead in better hands.

However, currently filming James Cameron’s Avatar is Sam Worthington, who is according to Variety apparently in line to play the same character. The article reported that Paramount Pictures was in talks with Worthington to star as Duke, in the film likely to begin filming February 13.

More G.I. Joe news, if you weren’t aware of it, is that the movie has actually been greenlit. Of course, casting rumors and speculation are nothing without a green light for the directors. “Trusted sources” – according to IGN – have disclosed that Paramount Pictures have given the movie the go-ahead with a budget of $ 170 million.

Stephen Sommers – the man behind a much maligned movie, Van Helsing – will be directing the movie, based on the line of Hasbro toys that we all played with as kids (even you girls…); Stuart Beattie is writing the script.
