Jon Favreau to direct Avengers

Jon Favreau to direct Avengers

OK, that heading is totally incorrect, and I won’t let you think otherwise for a minute. But he’d sure like too, according to a recent interview. The man behind the Iron Man movie has a bit to say on Marvel’s version of the Justice League, and just how they’re going about it.

It’s hard for me to get the image of Monica Gellar’s World Championship Wrestling boyfriend out of my mind when I think of Jon Favreau (ie, he played that character in Friends), but the Producer/Director/Actor/Writer seems to have his ducks in a row when it comes to Iron Man, his first major motion picture (I don’t count Elf and Zathura among that category).

So when Favreau recently sat down with MTV Blog to give his opinion on a possible Marvel Avengers movie, it’s time to sit up and listen.

Favreau was insistent on the fact that Marvel will not go ahead with an Avengers flick, until all the members of the cast have already starred in their own film. And in all honesty, this is the way that DC should be doing their JL flick as well (but that is another story already written to death).

“I wonder if the tone of ‘The Incredible Hulk’ is going to be similar or different than [’Iron Man’],” Favreau questioned. “And ‘Captain America’ is a twinkle in Marvel’s eye right now. And ‘Thor’ and ‘Ant Man.’

“[But] in the case of Marvel they’re pretty clear on wanting to do it with the actors who’ve established the roles or to not do it at all. That’s what they’ve said to me,” he continued. “I think it’s a good idea if you use the characters established in the other franchises that then come together for an event. I don’t think they would do it like they’re doing ‘Justice League’ where it’s a whole different set of actors and a whole different take on the world.”

Personally, because of my love of Ant Man, Captain America and Wasp, I am looking forward to an Avengers film more than I am the JL one. That George Miller has gone for an all new, all young cast is just another reason to send me scurrying further in to Marvel’s camp.
