Australian Government Denies Killing the Justice League

Last week we focused a lot on the revelation that the Justice League movie had been temporarily cancelled. One of those blamed for this was the Australian Government; but maybe not so, according to Aussie officials.

According to the reports that stemmed from last week’s announcement, the Australian government was blamed for impeding tax breaks which would have made filming in Australia a more feasible economic choice for Warner Bros.

But according to a spokesman for Australia’s Minister for the Arts, Peter Garret, this isn’t the case.

"We understand the postponement of filming is absolutely confined to creative issues and especially to delays in refining the script due to the writers' strike.”

Tax breaks were part of an overhaul of the arts industry as part of the former governments last few months in office. The government gave ‘domestic pics a 40% rebate on all Aussie expenditures, 20% for television skeins and 15% for foreign shoots.’ As a result, it is no surprise that Australian George Miller was appointed director and model and movie-newbie Megan Gale was cast as Wonder Woman.

However all of this apparently did not satisfy the requisitions for making it an Aussie flick. That the Justice League is obviously set in the United States, senior Australian industry officials were not sure that such a loophole would be exploited with the new Labor government in place.

The blame may be hovering over many, but as we all know, I don’t care; just as long as it puts an indefinite hold on the movie!
