I wonder all the time, why there is such a huge uproar when it comes to reboots? However Hollywood is bad about "Starting Over" yes. But shouldn't we thank Hollywood in general for the "Do Overs"? Shouldn't there be a tiny bit of sympathy from the fan's of these movies? Shouldn't executives be applauded for there effort's to stick by the people? There is a ton of movie's out there that are just simply put bad. I will take ten franchises that need a Reboot, or have already been rebooted because it was needed. And then, ten that do not need a reboot as an opposite argument. "Warning"!!! These will not all be "Comic Book" related films so just a heads up.
1.Judge Dread (Does Need a reboot)
Now Why did I mention this film with only one movie? Well, there are several reason's for this simply put, Sylvester Stallone is the #1 reason why this movie should be rebooted. Id rather bet bitten by one thousand mice, then listen to Stallone do his Rocky voice for the Judge. I kept waiting for him to scream out ADRIAN!! Come on guys I know you know what I am talking about. Another large reason is the failure to keep to Comics. Which is where most Hollywood director's have been screwing going wrong. Is it getting to ugly for you yet? Oh trust me its about to get worse!! =/
2.The Shadow (Does Need a reboot)
I really would not be analyzing this film, if it were not for the constant reminder of the lack of "Origin" in it. Plus I would enjoy seeing a movie with Batman at least making a Cameo. Two very intellectually gifted men working together possibly on a case. Or the other way around seeing Shadow in a Batman movie. That's simply put my only problem with the last film, other than that I have zero problem with this movie's original make up.
3. Spiderman (Already being rebooted)
Unless you have lived under a rock you probably know about, the announced reboot of the Spiderman franchise. At least when it comes to "Sam Raimi's" version anyway. Now you are probably thinking, hey give good ole Sam credit for making at least 2 good films right? My problem is not with Sam Raimi it is the horrid writing that this movie produced. These idiots could not tell a decent story if there lives were at stake. Or maybe they could? But that's off the subject, Sam took the fall because directors always do. Fox hated the third film, and so did the fan's. So they left Sam without a job, and Toby McGuire and the rest of the staff bailed.
4. Tomb Raider (Possibly being rebooted)
Please God make this happen! I don't think I can list the multiple reasons why this movie should be redone. I like to call it "Born Again" an ability to totally abandon the past. Which is the direction this franchise should go, and everyone with a brain knows it.
5. Batman (Already rebooted)
Some may believe that this movie didn't need a remake. I totally disagree and not just because of Batman and Robin. Even Batman Returns was some what making fun of Batman. Not blatantly but in all our minds it was not really what you would call a "great" Batman film. Just seeing Danny Devito try so hard was kind of touching, in a really sickening sort of way. Penguin is one of those character's you can't make a mockery out of. Again another large case of bad writing in general in that movie.
6. Doom (Shouldn't have been made)
I will place this in the "Never should have been made" category. Everyone hates on the "Rock" as an actor. And they think that he was the sole reason why the movie failed. Are you kidding me? The movie should never even have been picked up or written out. The game itself should stand alone, mainly because if you are going to make a Doom movie. I believe it should be a first person viewpoint that will never be done.
7. Star War's (Not a reboot, more of a revamp)
Mhmmm I am going there haha!! Please George Lucas, I am begging you for a Force Unleashed trilogy, ounce a third game is made. Time for him to jump on that right off the bat. Am I right? Ya that's right I know I am!! =)
8. Ghost Busters
Ok, I will admit it; this really does not need a "Reboot" because they were not really bad movie's. However, how cool would it be with this year's tech alone to see something that spectacular? Come on guys you know I am onto something here admit it I am right again.
9. Dick Tracy (Needs to be Rebooted)
Frank Miller+David Goyer= Classic plainly and simply put
10. Game of Death (Reboot)
A classic Bruce Lee film that was unfinished hands down.
And now I will move onto the movie's that should be left alone and not rebooted.
1. The Goonies (Should not be rebooted)
This is for obvious reasons but mainly one specific one. Clearly it would be quiet difficult to recreate such chemistry. Such a magical film, and a true 80's cult creation. Everyone is surely aware that this film, stands alone as one of the Top five best over all films of all time.
2. Total Recall (Should not be rebooted)
Very good movie my favorite character, is played by Michael Ironside he is one of the detective's/Cops assigned to go after Quad. This role alone stands the test of time and in my "opinion" cannot be outdone. Plus the film was solidly written and the action sequences, really are the only thing that can be done better I feel.
3. Daredevil (Should not be rebooted)
A reboot is a new start, I believe Ben Affleck did just fine as Matt Murdock and Daredevil. My biggest problem issue with this film, is Kingpin he isn't Black as most people know. Get a large White dude, and make a sequel, and that franchise will be just fine.
4. The Big Lebowski (Should Not Be Rebooted)
Two words "Jeff Bridges" Instant classic and everyone knows it.
5. Back To The Future (Must not be Rebooted)
Must I even explain why?
6. The Breakfast Club (No Reboot)
It simply dealt with some of the most controversial subjects for teens. And it was casted so very well, you cannot deny that at all. And being in a Room in a school for the majority of the movie, and yet still able to keep the dialogue going well with the script, the way it was written just all of it. You can't do that again and that's all there is to it.
7. The Exorcist (No Reboot)
Scary as hell leave it alone!
8. Indiana Jones (No Reboot)
Harrison Ford's rendition should be left alone plain and simple.
9. Aliens
10. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
What do you think? And what is your list of do's and don't for reboots? Keep the conversation civil as always thanks guys.
