Marvel And Fox No Longer Moving Ahead With THE PUNISHER TV Series

Marvel And Fox No Longer Moving Ahead With THE PUNISHER TV Series

Following the news that AKA Jessica Jones won't be making her way to ABC (read more details on that HERE) it has now been revealed that The Punisher will NOT be joining The Hulk on the small screen too. Read on for details.

While The Hulk may have been given the, ahem, green light, it has now been revealed by The Hollywood Reporter that The Punisher will not be joining him on the small screen. Despite the fact that Fox and ABC Studios were planning on moving ahead with Criminal Minds' Ed Bernero on a pilot, Paul Lee (the president of the latter network) has confirmed that it is not moving ahead. No reason was given, but you can read his comments about working on other Marvel TV shows by clicking HERE. The series was originally described as an hour-long procedural which would have made Frank Castle a rising NYPD detective who moonlights as The Punisher in order to seek justice for those that the system failed. Fans weren't too happy with those changes to continuity and may not be all that broken hearted by the news. Be sure to sound off with your thoughts in the usual place!

HBO or Showtime would be a perfect place for a Punisher TV series, not network television. Actually, I bet they could pull it off on FX (which probably has the most shows that push the envelope in regards to the FCC).
GhostSurfer - 5/15/2012, 11:38 AM
Wait what? I thought marvel got back the punisher property last year? FOX still owns it!!? Well, if that's the case then I'm glad this got kaboshed, because it needs to be back in marvel's hands so they can do the character justice finally!
cashsteele - 5/15/2012, 11:38 AM
Punisher has always seemed to me to be more of a R-rated cable series on HBO/Cinemax...
Frogman - 5/15/2012, 11:42 AM
Go for another Punisher film.

@GhostSurfer: it was FOX the channel not FOX the studio, Marvel Studios do have him back and he was never with FOX.
ThaMessenger07 - 5/15/2012, 11:52 AM
wtf? This was announced like 4 minutes ago....W.e

no Hulk Show!

One of you guys with way too much time on your hands should do a useless petition to stop the Hulks show...
MassExecutions - 5/15/2012, 11:52 AM
THANK YOU, LORD. Read the synopsis. NOT the Punisher.
marvel72 - 5/15/2012, 11:54 AM
the punisher tv show would work better on hbo, marvel studio's punisher movie would make money they know what they want.
Luigi - 5/15/2012, 11:59 AM
Yeah, HBO or Showtime is the perfect place for the Punisher. Even if there's another Punisher movie and it ends up being good, it still won't do well because of the last films.

Report Comment the punisher tv show would work better on hbo, marvel studio's punisher movie would make money they know what they want

right on let marvel stuidios fix the mess others made out of the punisher.then maybe turn it over to hbo or whatnot.
PapaEmeritus - 5/15/2012, 12:02 PM
Somebody tell me, how in hell they would put this on TV:

'Cause that's what Punisher is about IMO.
jazzman - 5/15/2012, 12:05 PM
@marvel72 & marknjoanna

Marvel Studio seems like they not doing R-Rated movies. for the Punisher to work on film they need to make R-Rated movies. would Disney let them do that.

also yeah Punisher on HBO or AMC would work. Marvel should hire the guys who did The Wire to produce Punisher tv series.
CaptainObvious - 5/15/2012, 12:08 PM
After the many abominations in theaters, it's best that The Punisher stays in the comics. Besides, we would have never gotten a truly faithful version of Punisher if it wasn't on HBO or Showtime.
CPBuff22 - 5/15/2012, 12:13 PM
If you do Punisher on tv it has to be on HBO or Showtime.
SpiderFan35 - 5/15/2012, 12:17 PM
@Gusto: Ha ha, that Night Court sure was a great show ;P

soforizo - 5/15/2012, 12:20 PM
I don't think Marvel has the balls to do anything with that character. But STARZ could be another network were a show like that would work.
masterhater - 5/15/2012, 12:26 PM
I love the punisher and am glad they are not going to bastardized my beloved character.
soforizo - 5/15/2012, 12:26 PM
Spartacus is the shit! Awesome show
jazzman - 5/15/2012, 12:26 PM

oh yeah i remember that,
SpiderFan35 - 5/15/2012, 12:27 PM
@monkeyballs: They did make a pretty good video game though.
jazzman - 5/15/2012, 12:28 PM

u forget once WB/Newline Cinema used to own the rights to Blade
MisterBabadook - 5/15/2012, 12:28 PM
AMC would be a good place for a Punisher TV show also
ItsNotASchooner - 5/15/2012, 12:37 PM
punisher is perfect for TV

procedural is the way to go with him, and ease up on his dead family woes, more straight up taking badies out!!

I am so thankful. While there have been pros and many cons about the past 2 Punisher movies I actually enjoyed them. Not as well made movies but as a voilent popcorn flicks. When I fist heard of this new series I immediately face palmed myself. The Punisher is a hard series to do as a movie and an impossible show for basic cable. I think it could work perfectly as an HBO, Starz, or Showtime series. I'd even be cool with it being an animated series like Spawn was on HBO.
KnobGoblin - 5/15/2012, 12:44 PM
Good, there approach was just dumb. The Punisher would make a great TV series if it were done right though. Look at shows like Breaking Bad, Sons of Anarchy and The Walking Dead.
Necroxide - 5/15/2012, 12:48 PM
:( !!!!!!
it would be a GREAT tv series if well done !!!
Ha1frican - 5/15/2012, 12:49 PM
I would love a procedural cop drama surrounding Frank Castle. Let us see him as a cop, get to know his wife and kid, then at the first season pull the rug out from underneath us and kill his family turning him into the Punisher. Then the following season become about vigilante justice and avoiding the very people he use to work wit.
Ha1frican - 5/15/2012, 1:00 PM
^^ is Castle similar to that? lol i haven't seen it despite being a huge Nathan Fillion fan

TheAmazingSpidey63 - 5/15/2012, 1:05 PM
Whew! We dodged a bullet there, dudes. The sypnosis for that show did NOT sound anything like The Punisher.

Stay EPIC, my friends!
NorrinRaddical - 5/15/2012, 1:10 PM
chripes how is it so impossible to get a GOOD Punisher adaptation!?!?! thank heavens for comics and maybe a video game...

give Punisher to Shawn Ryan and FX who gave us the Shield!!!
punisherftw - 5/15/2012, 1:25 PM

Lionsgate had the rights to Punisher, not FOX.
KalEl1996 - 5/15/2012, 1:32 PM
I like the Punisher, but maybe a tv series isn't the best thing.
Optimus83 - 5/15/2012, 1:35 PM

kevberg - 5/15/2012, 1:59 PM
its the easiest, least expensive charater to adapt.....why?
kevberg - 5/15/2012, 2:01 PM
hell no! ray stevenson is horribly cheesy. he's just terrible.
superbatspiderman - 5/15/2012, 2:18 PM
The Punisher would make a great TV if done right. I think it should be on either FX or AMC because both channels you can show violence. HBO has too much unneeded language and sexual content.
GUNSMITH - 5/15/2012, 4:12 PM

costa - 5/15/2012, 5:10 PM
I think to make a good Punisher movie, they need to dig more deeper in his roots and his history. They never done that in the other 3 movies. His childhood, his decision to join the marines, when he met Maria, his training, show The Costa Family and there situation, how his family get killed and he survives. I want to see the meat of his history. Where he gets his rage to kill criminals, how he transformed into The Punisher. Thats a good Punisher movie! Let the audience know who Frank Castle is and where he's coming from.
