Thomas Jane has always been a fan favourite to return to the role of Frank Castle (despite him showing little interest in doing so) and it looks like this poll simply confirmed that, with the actor coming on top with an impressive lead. However, Ray Stevenson (who has recently said he'd like the chance to once again play the character on the big screen) still came in with a decent amount of votes, while only a small majority of you were keen on seeing a new actor take over.

Solid choice
Godzillafart - 3/13/2011, 2:42 PM
Hmmm. A majority of comic book fans like a kind-hearted pretty boy punisher. Strange.
Exiles - 3/13/2011, 2:43 PM
no way, none of them should get the chance to play the character it needs to be some one new.
Bigbywolf - 3/13/2011, 2:49 PM
I never saw Ray Stevenson's version. I liked Thomas Jane and I think with the right writer and a good director he could do an awesome job.
I guess though it would be better to go with someone new and start fresh.
P862010 - 3/13/2011, 2:50 PM
what a bunch of idiots who voted for jane lol

his movie was far better but Stevenson was a far superior punisher

jane was too much of a pretty boy
Dumegg - 3/13/2011, 2:52 PM
the only thing about the Thomas Jane punisher movie
that I didnt like was the bad guy. I dont collect
punisher comics but I like the character. is travolta's
character even in the comic or did they make him up.
LEEE777 - 3/13/2011, 2:53 PM
P862010 @ Anyone that actually liked WH@REZONE is a disgrace LOL!

PERFECT @ JOSH!

The best man won!!!

CraptainAmerica - 3/13/2011, 2:57 PM
Are people going for the look or the acting? 'cause Jane was poo-bum as Castle
P862010 - 3/13/2011, 2:57 PM
leee jane was a pretty boy punisher anything but

his punisher was a miami pretty boy at that LOl

stevenson had the gritty look punisher needs not some pretty boy

and if you read my post i dislike war zone but i can admit who was the superior punisher and it was'nt this pretty boy
SHHH - 3/13/2011, 2:58 PM
I Voted Twice.. How Many other's Did... Good Choice btw....
LEEE777 - 3/13/2011, 2:59 PM
P862010 @ I suppose you love FOX and Welling too?

: P

Seriously, the whole production of WH@REZONE was sh1T from start to finish... a pure insult through and through!
Frogman - 3/13/2011, 2:59 PM
@Dumegg - Howard Saint (John Travolta's character) was made up, the Russian who was in it for like 5 minutes before Jane killed him was an actual comicbook villain.
Exiles - 3/13/2011, 3:00 PM
sorry neither jane or stevenson deserve a chance to play punisher ever again, seriously can't believe how low the third option got.
vermillion - 3/13/2011, 3:00 PM
Thomas Jane=Better actor and had the better film. Best pick.

It was the early days of The Punisher, ya know? I'm sure if we had a sequel to the original one with the direction Jane wanted to take, none of you would be complaining about him as The Punisher.
LEEE777 - 3/13/2011, 3:03 PM
Exactly @ Vermillion, exactly!

Even tho I personally didn't want him to jump ship on Punisher 2... I don't blame him at all!
marvel72 - 3/13/2011, 3:08 PM
definetly ray stevenson was the better punisher & warzone was the better movie.

ray stevenson punisher

-stevenson punisher hard as nails

-proper origin

-violent level to the max

-good assortment of weapons

thomas jane punisher

-a pussy his as scary as a wet fart.

-a crying punisher is not what i want to see.

-origin was completely wrong

-violence was tame compared to warzone.
RED79 - 3/13/2011, 3:21 PM
HEELLL YEAH!!!!!
P862010 - 3/13/2011, 3:25 PM
LEEE please read my post for the 3rd time lol

i hated war zone i hated it i hated it but i can admit when one punisher actor was far superior

i liked punisher from 2004 but jane was not a good punisher he was too much of a pretty boy

so because i feel the more mature and gritty looking punished means i like welling? WTF

and jane is not a better actor than stevenson
RobertGarlen - 3/13/2011, 3:36 PM
dammit why wasnt Dolph Lundgren an Option!!! Pure insulting
ToddCasil - 3/13/2011, 3:39 PM
I just saw Punisher Warzone, and yes it was complete and utter crap. No one in that movie could act worth anything. Ray Stevenson really brought nothing to the role. He lumbered around and killed people. Passed that the most he ever said was about a 4 word sentence at a time. Not good for the lead role.
skullboy - 3/13/2011, 3:42 PM
Why do people love fake Punisher??? Geez! Can't believe they didn't mind his origin being tampered the way it was. That's what killed it for me.
AlexDeLarge87 - 3/13/2011, 3:42 PM
Join Thomas Jane´s and Ray Stevenson´s Punisher characters together and we get the perfect Punisher!
I dont really care is it Jane or Stevenson who should play the role next cause they are both great actors and capable to play the role well. :)

TheGoddamnSuperman@ True! Dolph was great too.
TheDesertGorilla - 3/13/2011, 3:42 PM
Jane [frick]ing sucks!
DJCheckPoint - 3/13/2011, 3:58 PM
HAHA Busters. Jane for the win !!! Woo-hoo
Jeri - 3/13/2011, 3:59 PM
Neither

Jon Hamm; should play Marvels Cinematic Universe Punisher.

Jon Hamm > Frank Castle/The Punisher

Kind of a no brainer.
bizzarro - 3/13/2011, 4:00 PM
PEOPLE..THOMAS JANE ALL THE WAY.IF HE WOULD HAVE PLAYED IN THE SECOND 1..WAT WOULD U PEOPLE SAY THEN????HUH????
xXkryptoniteXx - 3/13/2011, 4:01 PM
Ray looks the part and can act the part but Tom is build and he can act and bring some humanity to punisher but still have that killer instinct
Jagfan28 - 3/13/2011, 4:14 PM
Jane left the sequel to his film because he didn't believe in the movie. And he most likely isn't coming back. Stevenson was a better Punisher and Jane's movie was better, so therefore use Jonathan Hensleigh as director and Ray Stevenson as Frank that is a win-win.

Oh and just because Stevenson barely said anything and that isn't good for the lead. Consider this, in the movie The Piano starring Holly Hunter she played a mute woman therefore no lines therefore it doesn't matter how many lines there are the lead is the lead.
TheBaldPat - 3/13/2011, 4:15 PM
the Punisher movie w Thomas Jane was decent, but the one w Ray Stevenson was def the comic come to life. he looked like he stepped right off the page & they got his origin right. i prefer the war-vet Frank Castle to the retired CIA light-hearted version. but Jane would make a very good Cpt America if he were just a lil bit younger
SHHH - 3/13/2011, 4:19 PM

NEW GUY, HUGE MUSCLED..WITH A HYBRID BALANCE OF STEVENSON AND JANE.
Durango95 - 3/13/2011, 4:44 PM
ARE YOU F**KIN' KIDDING ME?! The Tom Jane Punisher movie BLEWWWWWWWWWWWWWW.Fail..
jimoakley666 - 3/13/2011, 5:06 PM
Pfft. Gay. Stevenson was the best Punisher by far.
Gunslinger - 3/13/2011, 5:12 PM
Well deserved. Didn't like the changes they did to the origin in Jane's version (or Travolta's performance for that matter), but Jane is a solid actor and I'm sure if they had done the sequel the way Jane wanted the story to progress it would've been great. He probably read the script for Warzone and just said "f@ck this, this is an insult" and stepped away.

Warzone was a crappy movie, with crappy settings (Schumacher prob didn't use that much neon in Batman Forever). It looked more a tv movie. Sure, the violence was there... but if I want to watch violence with no character development or without having to use my brain I can watch "Cannibal Holocaust".
Gunslinger - 3/13/2011, 5:16 PM
And like someone mentioned earlier... Stevenson barely spoke. Not a lot of acting there. Looking psychotic when you have a skull on your chest and guns isn't much in terms of acting.

Loved him in Rome though (still one of my favourite series ever), but the truth is, we didn't see Stevenson act in Warzone. And comparing from what I've seen of his acting in Rome, although Stevenson has strong acting skills, Jane is still a better choice.
SuperPickle - 3/13/2011, 5:20 PM
All the folks on here that are pumping Stevenson as the better Punisher are making me laugh.... very hard. Seriously, this is a lot like those threads that devolve into dumb crap like "No, really! Triple H would make a GREAT BATMAN!!!" or "I think The Rock should play Superman" or Megan Fox for Wonder Woman. BARF!

ACTING. Stevenson ain't bad, but War Zone was nowhere near as dramatic, heartfelt and immersive as Jane's was.

Oh, and BTW, STEVENSON CRIED as Punisher, too, so back that right on up.
Guerillas - 3/13/2011, 5:22 PM
What about Andy Serkis? dont know about if he can do an american accent, but check out "the cottage". kinda looks like frank in that film. he might be too short though.
deanwilkins - 3/13/2011, 6:09 PM
Warzone was mega crap. Horrible movie in every way. Bad acting. Bad story. Bad character development. Bad ending. The only good thing was... when I left the room to get something to drink, not bothering to hit the pause button.

Thomas Jane was amazing in the role. He was a Frank Castle you could believe in. He brought depth to the role and completely kicked ass when he needed to. His fight with the Russian was one of the best I've seen in a film. From the moment he healed and went looking for revenge, the movie was awesome. Definitely one of my favorite CBM's.

And for the record, I respect Thomas Jane for declining the sequel, since it obviously stank to high hell when he got a hint of that awful script.
Choppaholic26 - 3/13/2011, 6:28 PM
Ray stevenson, that man was ripped right out of my punisher max book. There's holes everywhere. [frick] the blond little pussy queen as Punisher, just because the movie was better doesn't mean the guy that played the punisher was.

I agree that they should probably find someone else to be the punisher now though.
groundrunner15 - 3/13/2011, 6:38 PM
Punisher War Zone was the worst piece of crap I've seen in years. Jane's movie was waaaaaaaay better (not saying it was free from faults). You can argue that Stevenson may fit the Punisher more, even though I think Jane is better, but you can't make any argument as far as movie quality is concerned. (IMHO at least)
brokenexcitement - 3/13/2011, 6:57 PM
hey, what about Dolph Lundgren??? lol :-p
RedDragon2570 - 3/13/2011, 7:10 PM
Okay I normally keep my mouth shut and stay out of these little spatts, but I can't stay out of this one.

To those of you who think Jane was a better punisher, and the first punisher movie was better, I have this to say:

Your all a bunch of idiots. For starters Jane was a winy pretty boy who did not do the punisher justice. As far as the movie goes: A good movie would have had the sad massacre of his family, about 10 mins of sobbing, followed by the epiphany to Kill everyone and punish them mercilessly for what they did. Instead we had 2/3 of the movie after the massacre of his wining and moping. Then finally the movie got good when he went the final set of the movie to fight an enemy who doesn't even exist in the marvel universe. ???

Then you have Stevenson in Warzone. Rugged, filled with vengence and lacking in mercy, running around "Punishing" (Hence what is supposed to be his job as explained by his name) his enemies and busting faces with his fist. No wining aside from the 5 mins he felt bad about the undercover cop and decided to act on it. And a lot of brutal action. IMO Warzone for the win. bar none. Also, the enemy was an actual Marvel villian. Simply put, Bring back Stevenson.

Let the hate comments roll:
HeadlessJensen - 3/13/2011, 7:50 PM
Ray Stevensen for me.
Gattsu - 3/13/2011, 7:54 PM
Reddragon......YOU NAILED IT!!
BloodRed - 3/13/2011, 7:56 PM
Addendum to RedDragon2570's post: Jane's sh!tty movie was SET IN T-A-M-P-A!!! F.uckin'pleeeaase!

Bring back Stevenson with an awesome script and kick arse director.
NERO - 3/13/2011, 8:00 PM
Wow, lot of Punisher articles lately.

The more this goes on the more I think the argument about who was better, what movie was better, Team Dolph, Team Jane, or Team Ray, it doesn't matter anymore than who was the better HULK.

I think when the time comes Marvel will start over; there will be a new actor in the role and a new film entirely. All we can hope is this: All the films and actors that have attempted to bring Frank Castle to life have gotten parts of the character right and parts wrong. With any luck with Marvel at the helm for the fourth go round the people behind this rendition will have enough sense and understanding of the nuances of the character and how good a Punisher film could be that this time we will finally see the Frank Castle we all know and love brought to the screen in a way that we can all agree is the ultimate screen version of the Punisher.
RedDragon2570 - 3/13/2011, 8:29 PM
@Nero - Ed Norton was the better Hulk hands down. Mark Ruffalo has huge shoes to fill.
kyle12688 - 3/13/2011, 8:30 PM
ok every one keeps saying Jane didn"t want to come back not true at all he did he was even getting ready to shoot a poster for the movie but he backed out when he got the script and read some of it and was "like what the fu*k happen" he thought they were keeping the same feel that they did in the first one whitch was the welcome back frank series that he liked and many others did as well

And for Stevenson, he wasnt good cuz he didt physically become The Punisher like Tom did Ray just put on some bulky jump suits and you can hardly see the skull on it and another thing I like the facted that in the 2004 one they killed his whole family and not just his wife and kids it made it more real and better reason for him to take the law in to his own hands. Warzone had to much comedy in it and they took one of Punishers best villains Jigsaw and made him into a cry baby over his face I mean they messed up Jigsaws' whole back story He was suppose to punishers equal not only physically but mentally and thats why Warzone didnt work and why Ray Stevenson does not work
