Following the cover reveal & stills from this morning, 20th Century Fox has released an epic 5-minute trailer for Independence Day: Resurgence featuring a ton of awesome new footage!

An entire generation was raised on the belief that they could defeat an army of aliens, although come this Fourth of July, that generation is going to learn that defeating an entire species that's been waiting and planning for this moment for twenty years is much easier said than done. 20th Century Fox has released an epic new extended trailer for their upcoming release Independence Day: Resurgence featuring a ton of action-packed new footage. The Roland Emmerich-directed film stars Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Liam Hemsworth, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe, Sela Ward, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Joey King, Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, and William Fichtner, amongst others. Check out the latest trailer below:

We always knew they were coming back. After INDEPENDENCE DAY redefined the event movie genre, the next epic chapter delivers global catastrophe on an unimaginable scale. Using recovered alien technology, the nations of Earth have collaborated on an immense defense program to protect the planet. But nothing can prepare us for the aliens’ advanced and unprecedented force. Only the ingenuity of a few brave men and women can bring our world back from the brink of extinction.

Independence Day: Resurgence will be a great time in the movie theater sure it will not be exactly a great film like Civil War.

I expect ID:R to be this year's Jurassic World (from a box-office standpoint, maybe it won't be quite as well-received by critics, though audiences will surely love it, if it ends up being as good as it looks). They had me sold from day one with Jeff Goldblum and Bill Pullman back in action, such fantastic actors and it's going to be a real treat seeing them in a big-budget spectacle such as this. I think it looks great, lots of stellar actors, the VFX look great and it genuinely looks like a fun time at the movies. That'd be cool if they could squeeze in a little Will Smith cameo at the beginning, I almost thought I could hear dialogue from him in this 5-minute trailer (though that was probably just my mind playing tricks on me).
