SPOILERS: Rian Johnson Reveals Amazing Sounding STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI Deleted Scenes

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is the longest instalment of the franchise to date but there are still plenty of deleted scenes, according to writer and director Rian Johnson. Hit the jump for details...

Deleted scenes from Star Wars movies have slowly been released over decades as they're such a great way of selling special editions to fans. As a result, we have no idea whether or not these lengthy sounding sequences revealed by Rian Johnson will see the light of day when Star Wars: The Last Jedi is released on DVD and Blu-ray but you'd have to hope so as they all sound like pretty essential viewing.

Time will tell on that front but with scenes revolving around Luke Skywalker, Finn, the mysterious DJ, and more, you'll want to keep reading by clicking below to find out more about all of these...

Deleted Scene #1

In the movie, Luke and Rey spend a fair bit of time together but it would have been no bad thing to see their interactions on Ahch-To receive an even greater share of the spotlight. Well, Johnson confirms that was once going to be the case and as well as additional training, it sounds like things would have got very serious in an "emotional scene" which the filmmaker, unfortunately, fails to elaborate on.

"[On] the island, there’s a massive sequence that we shot with Daisy and Mark, which is kind of an additional sort of trial/test that she goes through, that involves her and Mark, and then a big emotional scene between the two of them. I mean, it’s big stuff, it’s like actual real scenes."

More Luke is no bad thing and it's going to be very interesting finding out what their conversation entailed; could it be that a little more light will be shed on his decision to hide out on the island?

The Last Jedi arguably spends a little too much time with Finn and Rose in Canto Bight but Benicio Del Toro's DJ is great fun to spend time with and it sounds like we were originally going to see even more of this trio as they made their way through Supreme Leader Snoke's ridiculously huge Star Destroyer.

"There’s a whole extended sequence where Finn and Rose and DJ sneak through the Mega Destroyer when they’re kind of, after they sneak in with DJ and they’re trying to find the tracker," Johnson explains. "There’s a whole extended sequence. It’s a full sequence of like stuff with them sneaking through this big office area of the Mega Destroyer and then having to fake out these Stormtroopers."

It sounds like a pretty fun sequence and could be the sequence John Boyega claims featured Princes William and Harry before they were cut from the critically acclaimed The Force Awakens sequel.

Talking of Boyega, it sounds like we would have at least a couple more scenes featuring the former Stormtrooper, one of which would have clearly been played for laughs. "There’s a couple Finn scenes," continues the filmmaker. "There’s one great Finn/Poe scene that’s kind of a setup scene at the beginning when Poe was kind of bringing Finn up to speed after he comes out of his coma."

Will we see any of these on the DVD and Blu-ray? As we said, that largely hinges on Disney and Lucasfilm but we'll just have to keep our fingers crossed for the time being. What do you guys think?

@Trumpool - "Let us keep our heroes" is not the problem anyone had with the movie. Luke can die for all I care, just not yet. And [frick], 10,000 votes. I looked at it last night and it had 2,000. Is this not evidence enough that the RT audience score isn't low because of bots? Either way, it's ridiculous and not ever going to change Disney's minds.

But if you really want to make fans happy, Episode IX could start with Rey waking up from her vision, with Luke asking her what she saw. Then everything happens according to her vision, but this time she tries to kill Kylo Ren.
