Highlander: The Reckoning is the sixth installment in the franchise, but by all reports will be a reboot that serves as a retelling of the original 1986 film starring Christopher Lambert and Sean Connery as Conner McCloud and Juan Ramirez, respectively. It will follow the story of an Immortal from the highlands of Scotland, once trained by ancient Immortal Ramirez, fighting in modern times against other immortals in a "contest" called the Gathering; a contest whose ultimate end line is that there can be only one.

However, since the rumors are that this is an attempt to restart the franchise one could guess that this will be only one "Gathering" out of several, meaning that this film will not end in the prize being attained. Fans of Highlander will likely be willing to give the franchise another try, but stay tuned for further updates

Fast and Furious director Justin Lin is set to direct. Iron Man screenwriters Art Marcum and Matt Holloway are set to write the re-telling. Producing is Neal Moritz.

Rumor to play the Kurgan is Vinnie Jones

Who should play Connor McCloud? Gerald Butler? And What of Ramirez? Chime in below and tell us who you think should take on the mantle of Highlander for this next generation.

Highlander
Highlander II:The Quickening
Highlander III:The Final Dimension/The Sorcerer
Highlander:Endgame
Highlander:The Source
Highlander:The Reckoning

I want Kevin Durand as the Kurgan.
Liam Neeson as Ramirez.
Alex O'Loughlin as Conner
Henry Cavill as Duncan.
EdGross - 11/6/2010, 12:10 PM
What amazes me is that Highlander: The Series, starting with season two, was great television with writers who successfully explored Duncan as a character and the Highlander mythology as a whole. Why the two feature films that followed the series were so abyssmal is beyond me. Why are they SO unable to capture the essence of the premise? Let's hope this reboot gets everything back on track. At this stage, though, my hopes aren't high.

comicbookjerk - 11/6/2010, 1:38 PM
Yeah Its going to be a very strange reboot

It contains Guns, Snipers and Highlanders that will only use swords to take heads.

Not a very good idea for a reboot but oh well!
patriautism - 11/6/2010, 2:27 PM
James Purefoy all the way.

Wentworth Miller as The Kurgan

Gunslinger - 11/6/2010, 2:45 PM
First movie was good, a classic. The sequels were a complete waste of time and kept getting worse in every sense (story, acting, effects). I will prob check this out since i'm a fan of the first movie (and its epic Queen soundtrack), but like Ed, my hopes aren't high. The choice of Director doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
Timerider84 - 11/6/2010, 2:46 PM
@Tazmaniak, I agree, Liam Neeson for Ramirez, but you may have to change his name to something else, because he clearly isn't Spanish.

Liam Neeson has awesome sword skills too. Liam Neeson would be EPIC!
SoulAllFlush - 11/6/2010, 3:29 PM
Every film after the first Highlander was a reboot.

This franchise has no where else to go, it's been bled dry.
level1paladin - 11/6/2010, 3:40 PM
The first one was a classic, but it wasn't a perfect movie and it certainly had it's 80's cheese about it. Another reboot of the series would be great. The television show was great in my opinion and it was a whole reboot of the first movie, which had a sequel that was also a reboot.
Siolentvex - 11/6/2010, 4:11 PM
@Timerider84: Why change the name from Ramirez? It's a fake name to begin with. The character isn't Spanish, he is Egyptian.
Kyos - 11/6/2010, 4:13 PM
SoulAllFlush is dead right about every "sequel" actually being kind of a reboot in itself. As for this new reinvention - is it really necessary?
bizzarro - 11/6/2010, 4:50 PM
@JESSIECUSTER75.....YA GREAT CHOICE,PERFECT.I NOMINATE THOMAS JANE FOR THE NEXT CONNER MCLOUD.

AlexDeLarge87 - 11/6/2010, 4:51 PM
Who the f*ck is Connor McCloud?!:D lol... Its MacLeod!:D But dont be sorry! Mistakes happen all the time!

patriautism@ Great choice man! James Purefoy all the way!

If they are looking for someone creepy and terrying dude as The Kurgan! How about Michael Fassbender or Mads Mikkelsen?
Thou no one is going to be better than Clancy Brown was!!:)... No one can beat that guy!
cfho83 - 11/6/2010, 6:06 PM
i call bs on this post, i don't believe it
Triptheorist - 11/6/2010, 7:38 PM
Javier Bardem - Ramirez (I think he can pull off Egyptian)
Gerard Butler - Conner MacLeod (C'mon get a real Scott)
Mads Mikkelsen - The Kurgen (although only at 6ft, I think they would need raise/bulk him up a bit.)
BubbaDude - 11/6/2010, 9:55 PM
I am nonplussed about the idea of remaking this movie.
The original ROCKED. The rest stank in comparison.

Besides, without the chance of a new soundtrack by Queen, why even bother?
hunterelf - 11/6/2010, 9:57 PM
about time
TheZoan - 11/6/2010, 10:03 PM
What about the Anime, Highlander : The Search For Vengeance. Any 1 see that?
alpineslide - 11/6/2010, 10:09 PM
A while back there were rumors of Kevin Mckidd playing the role of Conner MacLeod. IMO he'd be a great choice....good actor, experience with a sword, and a true Scott.
JerusalemJr - 11/6/2010, 10:21 PM
Kevin McKid as Connor and Liam Neeson as Ramirez
JerusalemJr - 11/6/2010, 10:24 PM
Timerider84 - Ramirez wasn't Spanish, he was Egyptian actually.
tazmaniak - 11/7/2010, 12:07 AM
A lot of those actors are very old.Conner was young when he became immortal.Because the character needs to appear to not age over the course of the film series, it wouldn't make much sense to cast an older actor.

Lambert was 29 and Paul was 33.

James Purefoy is great, but he's not much younger than Lambert, who originally played the character 24 years ago.I think he's about 47.

Ewan Mcgregor, Thomas Jane and Gerard Butler are also great, but they're 40+ and they look it.When dealing with immortal characters, seems like 30 is a good age to cast.
Joslezio85 - 11/7/2010, 1:42 AM
What about James McAvoy, or Billy Boyd, Dougray Scott, Dominic Monoghan. A whole lot of good Scottish actors left out. I think James McAvoy and Dougray Scott are probably the best for the roles. I think they would have great chemistry as Macleod and Ramirez.
AlexDeLarge87 - 11/7/2010, 3:33 AM
Colin Farrell, James Purefoy or Gerard Butler as Connor MacLeod
Michael Fassbender (Have you seen him in 300. Guy is [frick]ing awesome) or Mads Mikkelsen (Have you seen him in Valhalla Rising. Guy is [frick]ing bad ass) as The Kurgan
Jeff Bridges or Liam Neeson as Ramirez
Kyos - 11/7/2010, 4:10 AM
@TheZoan
Saw it, liked it. Felt closer to, idk, the true spirit of Highlander than most of the crappy movies. It's a little weird, very Anime (giant chainsaw wielding immortal etc), and at times pretty campy, but it was fun!
magicprime - 11/7/2010, 5:12 AM
If any series is in need of a continuity wipe and reboot it's the Highlander series.

If the movies kept up with decent writers I think the fans would have a good enough suspension of disbelief to let them recast Conner every three or four movies (kind of like James Bond) to keep him Young.
ReverendHess - 11/7/2010, 6:32 AM
Why are they rebooting while putting a Highlander 6 in the title? I'm all in favor of strting fresh but why link it to the crapfest of Adrian Paul?

On a lighter note, I met Clancy Brown once. He was an awesome guy to speak with.

JerusalemJr -Spot on with both comments.
TheZoan - 11/7/2010, 12:19 PM
Thanks Kyos. There's things you can do with Anime that just makes it more awesome. I hated all the sequels that i've seen so far. Not really interested in seeing any more then the Anime. If they had stuck with the original story line with Connor winning the prize at the end & just told stories of other immortals based on the history of immortals it could have been cool. Like many prequels in that mythos. But Nooooo, they had to create a whole new story with completly idiotic endings that makes no sense at all. Reboot it, but make it sensible.
Bosola - 11/7/2010, 1:06 PM
Macleod please guys. Not McCloud. Jeeze! They're a highland clan associated with the Isle of Skye and not the shores of Loch Shiel as mentioned in the film. However I guess they're not really going for historical accuracy are they...? :P

"You talk funny Nash, where'r ya from?"

"Locts of differndt pleces"
Bosola - 11/7/2010, 1:09 PM
PS: Gerard Butler is shit. In everything. Please god no, not him.

Zombie137 - 11/8/2010, 6:28 AM
At least it sounds like there are some reasonably good ppl involved with the reboot. I like Justin Lin as a director, and Ironman had a great script.

Kevin Durand as The Kurgan is a fantastic idea.

Gerard Butler is overused.

Tom Jane is awesome and i loved him as the Punisher, I think he would be a great replacement for Christopher Lambert

For Ramirez, i think Arnold Vosloo would be great.

I loved ALL things highlander, except the shit fest The Source. Terrible Terrible.

Adrian Paul should have never been in the movies. Only the Show.
mzz - 11/8/2010, 7:18 AM
Sean Connery should play every male character in the new movie. Hell, he should play Superman.
Bosola - 11/11/2010, 4:16 PM
I'd have to go with Kevin Mckidd and Macleod. He's been mentioned before in this thread and rightly so. Great actor, trained swordsman and a Scot. It's a no brainer.

...or maybe James McAvoy?

Hmmmmm!
Yelworc - 1/6/2013, 10:11 PM
The magic of the first movie was never realized again with all the sequels. The TV series on the other hand showed respect to the franchise. Recapturing the power of the first movie is not gonna work if they are going for look alikes, or similarities with the previous cast. Kurgan (Clancy Brown) was completely unknown so I think they should go that route for his role again. Otherwise it's anybody's guess, but some fresh face 21 year old for Connor will ruin it for me for sure. Personally I think for a reboot someone like Jason Statham would totally be my choice for Connor because he is so different from what anyone wants. He is stone faced, serious, has an accent, is bad as hell, etc. Jason Statham would be the x-factor this series desperately needs.
