My Review of District 9 and G.I. Joe

district 9

this movie sucked from beginning to end its a wast of time. the only parts that were good was when the main character teams up with this alien named Chris and he uses alien gun that were cool and a robot.i was really falling to sleep in the fisrt 5 min of it i give this movie a 4/10 but this movie makes you think are we alone? and this movie also has a good story

g.i.joe

this movie was great this movie was just a introduction so we know they will make more movie of it. it was cool how they introduce cobra at the end hes the same as the cartoon but he has a different mask that i think is just a prototype and how destro became destro. it had a great story and by the way when the ice was sinking it was because it had metal tubes in it and the cast was pretty good but some of the times they were a little off but it was all good i cant wait for the sequel. i give this movie 9/10

Wow...to each his own I guess. I was complete opposite on these two films. I nearly walked out of GI Joe. District 9 was one of the better films of the year, to me that as.

G.I. Joe was cool (though at times dumb and ridiculous), but ultimately i thought District 9 was better.

District 9 is also rated R which means it's more geared towards adult audience, no offense but not really meant for teens or that mentality.

Mind you I'm not one of those, "It's rated R! How could a 14 year old see this?!" Because I believe the ratings on movies are so overly p.c. controlled it's pointless. Regardless of that, it seems as though you're almost comparing the movies which are two completely different, one is a drama/action, the other is Bomb grade action. Just my observation.

anil-g.i.Joe had good acting and it was good that's why they making a Segundo movie 2 it and the cameo were good and u cant expect them to do everything the same as the cartoon/comic book and the actor were all good to each of there parts duke was good,baroness was good to, Scarlett was good to and this movie was an intro to cobra and the g.i.Joe so stop bitching about the movie its worthy of an Oscar so does d9 oh and g.i.Joe didn't get bad review neither did d9

they're making a sequel to district 9 as well... and g.i.joe in no way deserves an oscar, i already figure that district 9 wont get any nods because that's just how the academy is, and they only like movies about gays (broke back mountain, milk). idc if you don't like district 9, but you can't possibly be so naive as to believe that gijoe is oscar worthy...

If GI Joe wins an Oscar, I'll shit in my hat and eat it for breakfast. I am open to everyone having their own opinion, but there comes a time when you need to be realistic. There is nothing in that film that is Oscar worthy...NOTHING! Sorry bub.

You bet I'm gonna bitch if it does, because it is not an Oscar quality film. I'm not saying that Distrcit 9 will win any Oscar's by any means, but GI Joe won't either. By your statement, you are comparing GI Joe to such films as The Godfather, Saving Private Ryan, Unforgiven, American Beaty and Silence of the Lambs...These films are on an entirely different level.

I liked Orphan, still need to see The Gamer and am stoked about Alice in Wonderland, but again, none of them will win Oscars. I wish I knew what the members of "The Academy" looked for in Oscar winning films. Sometimes I see it, like with No Country for Old Men (an amazing film), but others I don't get what the big deal is (The Wrestler was good, but not great). Unfortunately, you will very seldom, if ever, see a horror movie or sci-fi movie win any awards. Of course there are exceptions, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and I think everyone would agree that The Dark Knight got the shaft last year. These types of movies just don't win awards. Who knows, now that they have changed the number of Best Picture nominees to ten instead of five, there may just be hope.

Out of curiosity, do you live in the US? I read above you are spanish???

I just watched D9 and I gotta agree with flames809. It was only ok. The only interesting parts were the mech and his transformation into a grasshopper guy. I can't make out what they're sayin' most of the time. It seemed over-intense and not better because of it.

GiJoe I haven't seen. Channing Tatum, fart...

flames, assuming gi joe is the best movie, and district 9 sucked (hypothetically) neither are going to get oscar nods simply because they are sci fi movies, and sci fi movies don't get nods unless they are E.T.
but even with out that going against it, G.I. Joe sucked, and District 9 was way better. if they were my children I would give all of my attention to District 9, and when District 9 did something bad, I'd take it out on G.I. Joe by beating it. I hate that movie more than any movie, except maybe G Force. nah, I'd rather watch G Force with my cousins again than to sit through 2 hours of Channing Tatum suck at acting. he should've stuck to dancing movies... stupid fairy. and am I the only person who didn't care that Brendan Fraser was in the movie? i hate him to. in fact, the world would get just a little bit smarter if the entire cast just died. including that director. accelerator suits... how dare he impose his own crappy screenplay onto the real American hero...

I have to agree with him on D9. It was boring and their accents are so thick all I hear is glug, glug, glug. I need subtitles. I think only gamers could like this movie anyway.

I havent seen Gijoe because I hate Tatum.

@flames So let me get this straight. You believe that a completely mediocre action flick like G.I. Joe is deserving of an Oscar. That it's the best of the best. That it's the cream of the crop. Sad thing is, you're wrong. In no way does the load of crap that is G.I. Joe deserve anything close to an Oscar, nor any type of award because it didn't accomplish a damn thing. I'll tell you why. Saying G.I. Joe deserves an Oscar is like saying the first Transformers deserved best picture. It's just absolutely absurd, and the Academy would laugh in your face if you ever suggested it.

Now I'm not saying that District 9 is going to win an Oscar, because it's not, simply due to the fact that it's a sci fi film. I'm just saying you're completely naive and out of your head if you seriously believe that G.I. Joe "deserves" an Oscar.

@Flames I'm trying so hard to give you the benefit of the doubt, but it's like giving a tapeworm a break because "It's probably just lost".

What actual criteria are you judging these films on? Quality of script? Character development? Or just the amout of 'Splosions crammed into each scene? Ok, it might be entertaining to see a couple of dudes in robo-suits beat the feces out of each other or to see the Eiffel tower melt, but that's all these films will ever achieve. Cheap thrills. Films that deserve Oscars, films that will be remembered entertain by enthralling their audience by more satisfying and altogether skillful means. Films like the Godfather, The Shining, and this year District 9. How many sequels they procure or dollars they earn doesn't dictate quality, all it means is that there are too many people fascinated by hollow SFX. GI Joe got a sequel because it'll inevitably bring in the naive teen audience, yet to discover what the word taste means in relation to the art form cinema has the potential to be.

People like you are the reason there'll probably be 3 more Transformers films while skilled auteurs remain broke and jobless.

I could get all angry about your - and most of your associates' - lack of taste, but instead, I just find it funny. Sure, a little depressing, but overall funny. Anyone that might have agreed with you at first will probably be a little more than taken aback by that last sentence of yours.
