STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS: Really? Seriously? You’re F&*king With Me Right?

STAR TREK INTO DARKNESS: Really? Seriously? You’re F&*king With Me Right?

Recently screenwriter Damon Lindelof Tweeted an apology of sorts for writing a scene for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek sequel in which Alice Eve's character Dr. Carol Marcus stood onscreen in her undies for a few seconds. Click on for my take on all of this.

I just saw that Damon Lindelof apologized for having Alice Eve in her underwear. Even claiming he was “misogynistic.” Now I’m sorry that a man (albeit) was offended by the 20 seconds Alice Eve’s character Dr. Marcus was in a bra and panties. In actuality, I’m lying, because I’m not the least bit sorry. The only thing I am sorry about is that this man had the audacity to write and complain about it. This is not only a travesty but more so of all the things we have to complain about THIS is what we are worrying about. Her character was cast because she had a likeness to Bibi from Wrath of Khan, she could act, and because she is HOT.

Star Trek fans around the globe affectionately and teasingly called Trekkies have been for years dismissed as geeks, even in media (West Wing, character wears a communicator pin). Fanboys/Fangirls alike where not the cool kids in class, and were stereotypically made fun of for liking Star Trek. That’s the mantra our community has embraced. Damon Lindelof has finally started to turn the tide on “geekdom” and made it mainstream by casting good looking actors and actresses and making it far less Sci-Fiction and more mainstream story based. That’s wonderful and let’s a brand new generation embrace what many have loved for the past half century. I embrace Chris Pine, Zoe S, and Alice Eve being half naked on screen; in fact there should be more of it. The sad part is that no one spoke of the threesome Kirk was having before he was summoned by Adm. Pike.

The more profound and saddening part is that we are so focused on it that I am actually writing something in defense of what was done. Does anyone remember the first interracial kiss in the middle of the civil rights movement? Oh yea! Kirk and Uhura! Does any remember a half-naked green alien dancing 50 years ago? I do. Does anyone remember the same half-naked girl in 2009? How about the female Klingons whose breasts were to their chin and would be the $hit out of each other has some sort of foreplay? Deanna and Riker having sex!! C’mon people!
This is the least of our worries.

All in All, I’m in invoking guy code and pulling his man card. And to quote an epic philosopher:
What you just said, is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard, at no point in your rambling incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought, everyone in the room is now dumber for having listened to it, I award you no points and made god have mercy on your soul.

CHILLAX DUDE! This isn't the end of women being objectified and used as sex objects in sausagefest movies!

You'll still always get your fill. Hollywood isn't about to go non misogynist anytime soon.

I hope I gave you some hope! :p
Wallymelon - 5/21/2013, 10:31 AM
dude youre retarded, i think its ridiculous that women are making it a big deal, but it doesnt make there point any less valid. alic eve in her underwear didnt really make any sense to the plot of the story, it was just thrown in there because she has an amazing body.

so before you waste everyones time with this editorial you should probaly just let the dude apologize, because if thats how he feels then so what. he should say sorry cuz it doesnt have a purpose, like you said it was in there cuz shes hot. if youre in the power to stop things like that from happeing in films or in every other art form then maybe you should take that scene out, cuz it didnt add anything.

did i enjoy it, yes i did, would i enjoy the movie without the scene, yes i would. and thats where jj and the writers failed. the movie would still be a great sci fi film without the scene. and thats why people are making it an uproar.

The women that bitch about these kinds of things are usually the ones that don't get attention. Jealousy makes girls tick.
OdinsBeard - 5/21/2013, 5:17 PM
how about "we put her in her underwear because this is the movies. where gratuitous sex and violence is the name of the game. you must be new here..."

lol @ at anyone who complains about this, i feel sorry for you and the children you will one day bear.

Didn't read, I'm just finding it hilarious how people are getting so upset about this. He bitched out and apologized for pointless fanservice. So what? Are they now going to go to every theater and delete the scene from each copy of the film? No. Is it going to be on the DVD? Yes, very likely. Is this overblown non-issue suddenly going to halt all gratuitous sex and nudity in Hollywood from now on? lol, no. For all the misogynistic comments here I've been seeing about this topic, there sure is a lot of PMS going on.

OMG!!! One of the funniest lines ever!!!!!!!!! But in all seriousness the guys an idiot! Don't apologize!!! How come no one complained about the threesome with the monkey ladies or when Uhura started taking her clothes off along with the green lady or even EVERY SINGLE TIME A FEMALE SHOWED ANY SKIN!!! I mean seriously?!?! No one complained about Riker and Deanna like you said!!!!!!!! Geez.
sephiroth211 - 5/21/2013, 6:04 PM

Shane Black would like to apologize for this...

FilmsFan - 5/21/2013, 6:06 PM
Fun Fact on Lindalof!

- Wrote Prometheus & then kinda pooped on it! Just cuz "fans" pointed out mistakes!
Or say "some fans"!!
- Wrote StarTrek IntoDarkess & now apologising on things that are worthless to even talk about! He should though apologise along with JJ on hiding the villains true identity & never taking the promotion with "Kirk vs KHAN" to next level & now STID may not even be a HIT!
IronMan3 & Great Gatsy killed it previously & Hangover3 & Fast6 gona do in few more days!

& now I wonder what would Brad Bird be thinking; is he gona backtrack, apologise & be "ashamed" of TOMMOROWLAND, once that comes out!!
SciFi always divided audiences!
Some love it & some Hate it!!!

Nolan never apologise for "complex & confusing" INCEPTION! Or anything!

Did Ridley Scott appoligised for PROMETHEUS!

Or any SciFi writer/Director!
No film or scene or story arcs/points are liked by everyone; cuz it's SCIENCE FICTION!!!
RorMachine - 5/21/2013, 6:07 PM
"The only thing I am sorry about is that this man had the audacity to write and complain about it."

What are you talking about? He didn't complain, he responded TO the complaints. And what the He;ll has anything you wrote about got to do with the actual issues people had with the scene! People weren't complaining because a naked woman was shown onscreen for a few seconds, they were complaining because of the CONTEXT in which she was..ie, the entire scene was constructed JUST so they could get the hot chick out of her cloths, but made absolutely no sense to the story and was just shoved in there for the sake of it. People didn't complain about the Kirk scene because it had a reason for being in the movie..it briefly showed that Kirk was still a completely immature womanizer who likely wasn't ready for the Captain's chair. I don't even necessarily agree with Lindelof apologizing, or particularly think he even has a reason t, but if you're going to take issue with his response, at least know WHY he felt the need to in the first place!
ChosenWriter513 - 5/21/2013, 6:09 PM
"dude youre retarded, i think its ridiculous that women are making it a big deal, but it doesnt make there point any less valid. alic eve in her underwear didnt really make any sense to the plot of the story, it was just thrown in there because she has an amazing body."

Having Kirk in his underwear in *both* movies didn't need to be there either but I didn't see a huge deal being made about that. She didn't get naked. There wasn't even *implied* nudity. It was nothing more than you would have seen at a fuggin beach. Do they have a "point"? Maybe, but when you cry wolf on minor stupid stuff like this it just makes people take the matter less seriously next time. There is such as thing as overcompensation, and that's exactly what this whole thing is- an overreaction and political connectedness getting out of hand.
diagnostic - 5/21/2013, 6:10 PM
Have I apologized for this yet?

sephiroth211 - 5/21/2013, 6:12 PM
This old motha f@cka has given me the worst mental picture ever!! Excuse me while I scream myself insane.

SINema666 - 5/21/2013, 6:13 PM
you are all complete f*cktards. did it ever occur to you that this may just hollywood publicity and business as usual?

you know, something that will get people talking about whether the apology is unneccessary or if the scene was so scandelous that it required an apology, just so more people will go see the damn movie after an underwhelming opening weekend? you know, EXACTLY what you all are doing NOW?

I would call you all morons but it would be insulting to morons everywhere. you people are whole new level of stupid
INSTANTJUSTICE - 5/21/2013, 6:15 PM

1st world problems.

Scooby - 5/21/2013, 6:15 PM
I agree with Ror. Honestly, I think the next Trek movie just needs an over-hall. Pretty sure the current writers are leaving with JJ or something of that nature - since they are his buds. So a new director and new writers are inevitable - bring in some good talent. Star Trek isn't for everyone - and that's what makes it so goddamn special. So stop trying to make it for everyone and just make a good Star Trek film. That is all.
CaptainObvious - 5/21/2013, 6:15 PM
As much as I liked the movie, here half-nude scene was rather pointless and distracted from the overall story.
sephiroth211 - 5/21/2013, 6:18 PM
In regard to that pic old man...

bluedude - 5/21/2013, 6:19 PM
god that green chick frm star trek 09 drives me crazy sooooooooooo hooottt
blkyank - 5/21/2013, 6:19 PM
The movie did not connect with females and I'm sure some critics tried to use the
scene as some kind of reason the ladies(the ones not taking they're kids)didn't show
up in huge numbers.

Lindelof is basically saying "I feel your pain" to gin up more women buying tickets next weekend to save the flick.

We can all talk about Lindelof being a puss and tell the ladies to get over it because we dig that shit and would see the movie anyways but that won't change the fact women didn't and if that doesn't change, STITD will end up making a lot less domestically then the 2009 film.

Women can be that way, have their cake and eat it too but those are the breaks.

Do we really need to see Cavill and Jackman running around shirtless in the trailers for MOS and The Wolverine? No. Why couldn't they be in a T-shirt in the trailers?

Point is, guys would have turned out for Star Trek without getting to see Alice Eve in her panties but a lot of women would not see MOS or The Wolverine without some beefcake.

Look at how much a surprise hit Magic Mike was.Women were losing their minds and going out in groups to see that shit.

Guys dig the genre while a lot of women (with all due respect to our fangirl sisters)
would look at these films as fodder for teenage boys and man children and skip the film.

cipher is the most entertaining person on this site. Or maybe its because im a BtVS fan and i enjoy seeing Spike being personified as a comicbookfan on this site.
nonserviam03 - 5/21/2013, 6:21 PM
Sorry, but the scene was shameless and pointless objectification. It was gratuitous and had absolutely NO point in the movie.

It's amazing how the article mentions the "image of Trekkies as geeks" and then goes on to make the whole group look like sexually repressed knuckle draggers (quite a few of the comments don't help).

Ugh.
exe - 5/21/2013, 6:21 PM
What is this shit news? Lindelof, you should apologize for being a damn faggot.

Shane Black too, for that Iron Turd 3 debacle.
