As much as I wish Norman had a mask in that final fight, this design for the glider is a bit too busy for me to like. I don't think it would've worked as well on screen.

I like what we got but this is really cool too

Having the broken goblin mask as a hood ornament for the glider, not only would've that made the glider look more comic accurate in way that makes sense in movies context, but it also would've been a great way to have the classic piece of costume in the final fight while Norman still wore the new unique look. You know that, I'm now actually kind of mad that they didn't have it. Shit.

@Odin - AGREE 100%
Most Gliders always had a Skull of some sort as a symbol of the Goblin. This would have been a nice touch to pay homage to those designs from the comics.

I also would have liked to see a secondary mask or atleast his helmet in this one still being worn with the purple hoodie over it.

@SatsuiNoJXA - But remember, this movie did not care about paying homage to the comics. It was only about the movies.

@Razorface1 -

Oh yeah that is easily understood. However we still got better looks at the villains with more comic accurate representation in their appearances, EVEN IF IT WAS SUBTLE.

Goblin's purple aesthetic with the hoodie being torn, and then Electro not being blue and having much more of a personality than just being some lonely incel.

I don't think it works for DaFoe's Goblin but I love the design and it works as a Green Goblin 2 Glider Design.

Final costume was a bit bulky/clunky for my taste. Glider mask could have been cool

Doesn't really make sense. If he was going to keep it, why not just wear it at that point?
BIGBMH
BIGBMH - 3/11/2022, 3:07 PM
@THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - I would've been down for him to wear it, but I'd say there's a decent argument to be made in favor of him not wearing it.

He's in a world in which he doesn't need to conceal his identity, so the practical use is gone. If the Goblin feels that it has fully taken over, it no longer needs the dichotomy of switching back and forth between the face of Norman and the face of the Goblin. Norman's face is now the face of the Goblin..

I think that the significance of the scene where Norman smashes the mask was his attempt to emphatically try to separate himself from the Goblin. So if later we saw that he must have (presumably) stopped by Home Depot to grab a glue gun to piece the mask together and affix it to the front of his glider, well that probably would have been problematic on several different levels, both emotionally and physically, not the least of which is how he would pay for said glue gun? Does the MCU use the same currency as the Raime-verse? And would no one at HD notice that he’s dressed like a militant Christmas elf (although it was Christmas time in that movie)? And what about- wait, I’m being told by my producer that I’m REALLY overthinking this and that- oh, oh, Mom has meatloaf! Mom has meatloaf everyone!! Everybody down to my basement for some meatloaf (you’re really going to love Mom’s meatloaf)…

Anyhow, probably better that they didn’t do that. Mom! Where’s the damn meatloaf?!?

@StSteven - Ehh, I'm sure if they used this idea, they wouldn't also have him shatter the mask.
StSteven
StSteven - 3/11/2022, 4:04 PM
@DalekCraigWasson - Right, I totally agree (obviously I was kidding about the whole HD thing :)). So if he didn't shatter the mask and just threw it down the alley of whatever I don't think that it would have had the same emotional impact as actually smashing it. I think that that was meant to be symbolic and lessing that moment by just tossing it away to later retrieve it to fix to the front of his glider (clearly by using discarded chewing gum that he found in the alley when he went to retrieve it ;)) would have cheapened the moment.

Plus I think that there's additional significance to the shattered mask representing his shattered psyche, which he was trying to overcome. But again, clearly I'm overthinking it, because I'm sincerely invested and not just trying to run out the clock on a Friday workday... ;)

Mom!!!

"we do know that Norman Osborn doesn't exist in the MCU"

No we don't. All we know is Oscorp doesn't exist as of 2024 in the MCU and someone else lives in the house Raimiverse Norman lives in in his own reality.

It's very possible that in the MCU there WAS an Oscorp that went out of business in the past (probably due to competition from Stark Industries) and thus the MCU version of Norman Osborn lost his fortune and thus lives elsewhere.

In fact, as I've mentioned before, there is tie in material that states that people in the MCU did recognise Norman as a "failed CEO" after he arrived and ditched his mask and glider, suggesting there is an MCU version and he may even look the same as the Raimi version as of the case with JJJ. While I normally wouldn't lend credence to tie in stuff, nothing in the movie actually contradicts that so the possibility is still there, and the door is very much open for Marvel to introduce another version of Norman in the future - whether as another Goblin, a future Mayor, the head of HAMMER, leader of the Dark Avengers, or even all of the above.

@AC1 - I agree! I think there's a Norman in this universe, he probably doesn't have his company yet. We might see the rise of Oscorp.

It was the one major thing missing, the comic style glider…
