Brainiac Concept Art from Tim Burton's Superman Lives

I'm guessing Tim Burton enlisted a 3 year old to be his Concept Artist. Just Saying.
Two Superman Lives pre-production paintings from Burton’s current Museum of Modern Art and, accompanying book. The Art of Tim Burton

Pictured is Brainiac. Tim Burton wanted Pierce Brosnan for the role.

The second is of uh...Living Kryptonite...?

Singer really disappointed fans with Superman Returns...but Burton would have FUBARed Superman
TNTjesus - 11/18/2009, 6:10 PM
Good call TNT. He's not the right person for Superman and thank goodness we only got a disappointment from Singer. I think Burton might have caused riots.
Tobuttica - 11/18/2009, 6:22 PM
it would have been weird but not so bad
...what am i saying it would have sucked ass
Duhdaduh - 11/18/2009, 6:39 PM
i think burton still used this concept for brosnan. watch Mars Attacks!!!! and you'll see what i mean.
Wadey09 - 11/18/2009, 6:40 PM
yeah I see these sketches and it reminds me of the giant robo-spider showing up in wild wild west. It's like he was,"screw it I worked hard on these concepts! I'm gonna use them in another movie!"
thwhtGuardian - 11/18/2009, 7:13 PM
not a fan of burton...nightmare and scissorhands were cool but his batman aint my fave...didnt like his vision...and im sure he'd fukk up superman...nic cage as clark? fukk no
Anil Rickly - 11/18/2009, 8:02 PM

LEEE777 - 11/19/2009, 10:07 AM
at least it was not lex, again
darthstern - 11/19/2009, 10:21 AM
So frickin' lame!
Bijous - 11/19/2009, 10:24 AM
thank god he didnt get the green light to make this movie...surprised he didnt have johnny depp down for a role in this.....maybe he was going to be lex luther...errrrr
R3Animator - 11/19/2009, 10:27 AM
Tim needs to stick with the darker characters. I personally like the original Batman. Of course much better than tragedy of Batman 3 & 4. I would watch a Sandman or Spectre movie by Tim.
Roughhouse - 11/19/2009, 10:42 AM
wierd
DarthMulder - 11/19/2009, 10:49 AM
I honestly would have loved to see Burton's take on Superman, at least he's making it his own.
Stumblin - 11/19/2009, 10:54 AM
That Dude needs to stay the Hell away from anything "Superman Movie" for all we know he would have his BitchBoy Mr Johnny Depp as Brainiac....LAME
JonathanisMagnum1985 - 11/19/2009, 10:54 AM
meh i still would have went to see it and at least he was actually planning on using a villain for supes to fight lol
Ryden - 11/19/2009, 11:06 AM
it may have been good on acid.....but otherwise it would have sucked
superdog - 11/19/2009, 12:06 PM
People seem to forget Batman and Batman Returns, neither of which contained Johnny Depp, granted now he's been using him in every damn movie lately, however, that does not detour the fact that he is a good director, and with Kevin Smith's writing, it could have been an awesome movie.
Stumblin - 11/19/2009, 12:06 PM
Dear Baby Jesus,
Thank you for not allowing this movie to ever be made.
Amen!
DrFever - 11/19/2009, 12:27 PM
at least it was not lex, again
darthstern - 11/19/2009, 1:41 PM
i would have prefered lex to this psychodelic funk. and lex was actually going to be in the movie as well just not a main guy
superdog - 11/19/2009, 1:50 PM
honestly, if you read the script, Nick Cage makes perfect sense as Superman. And I am by no means the biggest supporter of Burton, but I am a fan of Stan Winston, and you should see how different the concept art for Edward Scissorhands was from what Stan made...the weird drawings weren't accurate descriptions of what he wanted, they were more like charactures. If these sentences aren't strung together coherently, that's probably because I'm not really awake yet...so, er, sorry if I ramble

MANNNNN
I pissed a little bit laughing my ass off when i read your post, lol
vonstallin - 11/19/2009, 1:52 PM
I F**ing hate Brandon Routh. May he die for his faggot sins.
eljayson - 11/19/2009, 2:05 PM
To anyone who hasnt heard this already. Supeman Returns was actually supposed to be allot more like an amalgam between the movie and the game.

Lex teamed up with Metallo. He used the crystals for the Kryptonian Military tech too. The Kryptonite island was to give an infinite energy source to Metallo and keep superman away. And Lex made up the rumor that Krypton was still around to get superman away.

This is to SHH mostly but to anyone who wants to see Tom Welling as Superman:

Tom Welling as Superman
superman7 - 11/19/2009, 2:25 PM
eljayson, that seems rather harsh and ignorant. I never did get the whole gay stigma about SUPERMAN RETURNS. Sure, Singer was on THE ADVOCATE with the headline, "How Gay Is SUPERMAN?" but it was a comparison of Clark hiding behind the glasses (as if in the closet) to what gay men go through. Singer may be gay, but he is a decent director and personally, I tought RETURNS was good, just too slow. There was only one real action scene, and yes, I was no fan of superkid and Lex once again being the villain, but the story was good.
NCboyChris - 11/19/2009, 2:58 PM
did he let a child draw the character designs for this movie???
RomeyRome2002 - 11/19/2009, 3:09 PM
This is what all his set design sketches look like... you should see his sketches of the bat mobile.

Honestly, I would've loved for this movie to have gotten made, I think it would've been interesting as hell.

You know what I think would've made this movie actually acceptable and far more interesting? Change the title to simply "ELSEWORLD"
DeadWebHead - 11/19/2009, 3:18 PM
Thank god this movie will never see the light of day!
Verdugo - 11/19/2009, 3:37 PM
Yeah... I'm just gonna go ahead and call bullshit.
HeyVanity - 11/19/2009, 4:26 PM
on what?
thwhtGuardian - 11/19/2009, 4:31 PM
BURTON'S BRAINIAC IS SO STUPID
GUNSMITH - 11/19/2009, 4:39 PM
This is what all Burton concept art looks like. This would have made for an interesting movie IMO. Good or Bad? I don't know.
Upupandaway - 11/19/2009, 6:02 PM
Jeez, WTF is Tim burton taking when he comes up with stuff like this!?! :P
JoshW - 11/19/2009, 6:08 PM
@ deadwebhead

yeah, if it was an elseworlds movie it would have been fine...except it wasn't. this was going to be the new superman. thats just terrible.

@ contrast

how would nic cage make sense as clark?? he's a terrible actor, he's balding, and he's the furthest thing from tough looking as you could possibly get. sorry, i just think nic cage should be loaded onto a plane and flown into a volcano.
CorndogBurglar - 11/19/2009, 6:51 PM
OMG superman its a green head!!!
xXkryptoniteXx - 11/19/2009, 8:01 PM
ACK ACK
MsKyle08 - 11/19/2009, 8:38 PM
There's a few things wrong with everyone's perspective on this vision. Other than nic cage as supes the producer behind the film was pushing a huge spider villain to fight (check out the interviews with Kevin Smith) so i'm sure it was a concept that worked in Braniac in some sort of cyborg spider form. The common concept pic of superman seen is also hinted at being a bizarro concept. So thus far instead of a bastad child, lex luthor, and kryptonie in Bri-man's version we have *gasps* actual super villains to fight supes! I think Burton might have had a better vision honestly
Cali - 11/19/2009, 8:48 PM
Looks just like Pierce.
Ryguy88 - 11/19/2009, 9:15 PM
WTF

was that stuff even in the comics?
Fartman - 11/19/2009, 9:49 PM

GOD I HATE TIM BURTON!!!!!
Toxin - 11/19/2009, 10:15 PM
@ superman7

Nice Drawing !!!
R3Animator - 11/20/2009, 5:03 AM
Yeah so....not advocating this movie at all!!!! but it would have been cool to see how messed this version could have been!!!! especially the drawing of Superman assimilated by the borg!!!!
Matty - 11/20/2009, 7:39 AM
Burton must have dropped some pretty good acid when he drew that. Whatever he was on, I'd like to know only so I stay away from that stuff. God, what would his Metropolis have looked like?

But hey, I'll give him props for at least discovering that Superman has, on the rarest of rare occasions, fought someone BESIDES Luthor in his 70 year history. It's a little known, obscure piece of Superman trivia.
comicb00kguy - 11/20/2009, 7:42 AM
Looks like Wicked meets superman. Cool.
Betty - 11/20/2009, 8:13 AM
I honestly dont see why WB is lagging on such a Dept & their main excuse is they "wanna go dark" or "dont have a story"?!?

Yet, they own the properties to DC who last yr released probably one of the greatest Superman Story Arcs w/ the Villain everybody & their Grandma are asking to put in the new Film/Reboot:
"ANYBODY READ SUPERMAN/BRANIAC by GEOFF JOHNS w/ ART BY GARY FRANK?!?" No Lex, all Brainiac, all Alien, & they introduced characters familiar w/c Superman Canon
Take out Supergirl & right there you have a reboot that not only doesnt start like an origin, but just picks up to what we all know(kinda like Ed norton's Hulk)plus they can even use Gary Frank's AMAZING art as storyboard/costume/set design reference!!

WB needs to stop trying to come up w/ something new for Christ's Sakes...Look what Nolan did for Batman. Did anybody not see the nods/ideas they took from Year One, The Man who Falls & The Long Halloween?!? All they did was took little samples from THE COMICS & developed a story out of it!! Granted batman needed an origin story on film finally, Supermans had that, time to get to businessTHE COMICS ARE what made Superman & w/ Geoff Johns as writer/Script & JJ Abrams direction, you will have the Superman Reboot we have been dreaming of

JonathanisMagnum1985 - 11/20/2009, 9:23 AM
@ JonathanisMagnum1985

I very much agree. I loved the interaction of Kal and Kara in that story, however. She would be missed by me.
JYCowboy - 11/20/2009, 11:30 AM
I'm just wondering, how many times these pics will be posted on this site?
Apoc4all - 11/20/2009, 1:01 PM
They should bring back a CGI version of Christopher Reeves, so he can fight Brandon Routh, as a Blackest Night version of Superman!!!!!!
Matty - 11/20/2009, 1:46 PM
comicb00kguy - Now that's how you deliver deadpan sarcasm on a message board!!!

superman7 - That drawing is excellent! The face could look more like Welling's, but great job! shaman, watch out!
JonF - 11/20/2009, 1:47 PM
well, i really like his batman's so i can't see why his superman would be all that bad...
