TWITTER BUZZ: Marvel's New Female THOR

TWITTER BUZZ: Marvel's New Female THOR

Yesterday the internet exploded with the news that Marvel's current incarnation of the God Of Thunder would be replaced, and a new female character would take up the mantle of Thor. Check out some of the reactions, including Joss Whedon's, who apparently likes Katee Sackhoff for the movie version!

The reactions have mainly been positive, but there's a few (mostly jokey) negative comments, and some feel that -- although they don't have a problem with the character being a woman -- Marvel's motivations might be a bit shady, or that it's just another headline grab from the publisher, and that Thor will be back to his masculine, long flowing blond locked old self in no time anyway. Here's a batch of the best reactions, but be sure to leave your own in the usual place.

it's just not that big a deal to me. Marvel got what they wanted out of for them.
Pasto - 7/16/2014, 6:51 AM
This'll last what, 3 maybe 4 months before it's just stupid?
Doopie - 7/16/2014, 6:51 AM
Id like to add Ribic is an incredible artist
yossarian - 7/16/2014, 6:52 AM
Whoever the [frick] Al Snow is...that was funny.
Pasto - 7/16/2014, 6:53 AM
I take that back, it's already stupid. But I'm curious as to when it will be stupider.
Doopie - 7/16/2014, 6:53 AM
why is Pasto like Timmy Mallett?

Because they both like a whack-a-day
PAF - 7/16/2014, 6:54 AM
I can't stand Max Landis' goofy looking ass.
McNyagano - 7/16/2014, 6:54 AM
Dunno how I feel about this, the Thor fans must be dissapointed.
Pasto - 7/16/2014, 6:54 AM
Pfft, 'A' whack? More like whack(s).
PAF - 7/16/2014, 6:55 AM

Wasn't he a wrestler? I think he was.
MightyZeus - 7/16/2014, 6:56 AM
I just don't understand as to why it's a big deal. I actually don't mind that Thor is a female.

Marvel got what they wanted. I expect the sales of the first issue are going to be quite good.
Vegeta - 7/16/2014, 6:59 AM
I don't read Marvel no more, so I don't care. However, I sympathize with Thor fans that do.
crowlers - 7/16/2014, 6:59 AM
It's incredible and hilarious. RT @gerrycanavan: Identity panic over effing THOR has got to be the zero-level of white dudeism.
BatzFTWfan - 7/16/2014, 7:00 AM
Man, its like the end of the world for Thor fans. I know how they feel, but really, instead of rehashing the character into multi-universe (I'm looki at ya, Ultimate!), its cool to put the character in a different situation (frog Thor, etc.). Sometimes it fails, sometimes it gets successed, its just business. Marvel wants to get success to try different things even though its pleasing their fans or not. And also, this female Thor will be for a while, im sure the real thor will return soon. So, why turning on a flame ?
I'm really interested to see how this female version works, i hope she be praised.
BackwardGalaxy - 7/16/2014, 7:02 AM
I don't understand why they're calling this person a female Thor? Will their name actually be Thor? Aren't they just wielding Mjolnir and wearing a version of his armor? I'm confused by this.
SageMode - 7/16/2014, 7:02 AM
I love it. Let the haters hate
GetsugaTensho22 - 7/16/2014, 7:02 AM
It's not the idea itself that's insulting or idiotic. Thor can be a woman or even a [frick]ing Dalek under the right circumstances.

It's just in THIS CASE,it's clearly Marvel implementing ANOTHER stupid gimmick. DC's ideas, for the time being, are just variant covers. Marvel on the other hand is just making changes for the sake of a quick buck.

I expect Barbie to sprout a cock soon in the interests of equality.
MercwithMouth - 7/16/2014, 7:04 AM
"I find Marvel's patronising, "We make comics for girls because we guess they don't like comics starring boys" attitude quite sickening"

Whiny fanboy is whiny.

He was a wrestler..

yossarian - 7/16/2014, 7:04 AM
@PAF - Could be. I don't know.
yossarian - 7/16/2014, 7:04 AM
@Merc - Ah. Okay.
Vegeta - 7/16/2014, 7:05 AM

Gusto - 7/16/2014, 7:06 AM

Girls are yucky.
BatzFTWfan - 7/16/2014, 7:07 AM
Also, thanks Marvel for not killing Thor off or canceling the issues forever.
Even if Marvel gonna make Thor a lesbian or other characters gender-bent, i'm fine with it. I hope this new direction gets prasied, bring it on!
Marqy - 7/16/2014, 7:08 AM

NovaCorpsFan - 7/16/2014, 7:08 AM
Max Landis can go die in a [frick]ing hole.
SageMode - 7/16/2014, 7:09 AM
From people bitching about a black non-Peter Parker Spider-Man to people bitching about a non-Thor Odinson Thor, it just clearly shows how racist and sexist some of these fanboys really are. With a huge twist of ignorance to the mix.
MercwithMouth - 7/16/2014, 7:10 AM

That's Gus's sex ed video from 1936...
Klone - 7/16/2014, 7:11 AM
Lol at people using the sexism card to try and shut up any critics.
MsDarkPhoenix - 7/16/2014, 7:11 AM
You know what I think? I think that Tumblr will have some lesbian porn now too...

Pasto - 7/16/2014, 7:12 AM
So if you don't like the idea of turning Thor into a woman for the sake of turning Thor into a woman, you're a sexist?
GeekyCheekyChic - 7/16/2014, 7:13 AM
Katie Sackhoff should be Carol Danvers
Ivonne Strahovski should be The Enchantress
HRDWYR - 7/16/2014, 7:15 AM
Some men just wanna watch the world burn.
Marqy - 7/16/2014, 7:17 AM
yeah Im sure Marvel doesnt know that Thor is his real name and they wont adress this issue in the new run. Marvel for all their million-dollar teams of writers, PR people and everything are such dumbasses they cant even follow their own cannon and they didnt predict this reaction and so on.

Really guys ... Thats just dumb.

:D .. you can always make me laugh.

GeekyCheekyChic - 7/16/2014, 7:17 AM
if and when they do a female Thor then ideally someone like Carol Danvers/Ms Marvel would be 'worthy enough to wield Mjolnir' (in Marvel Phase 4)
Klone - 7/16/2014, 7:18 AM

The sexism accusations get worse and worse and worse...
Seejay - 7/16/2014, 7:19 AM

As as long as it is a limited time event - I am very fine with this.

Its a cool idea. To spice it up. Every character needs some change every now and then.

Its probably a good way to go forward after the events that have passed in Marvel Now. Hard to top old Thor beating the shit out of Galactus , and the events before that with the God Buther etc.
